A weary man, all battle-worn and scarred
And tortured by the life that he's lives through,
To his surprise he's letting down his guard
And letting in his heart a woman who

He felt would never cause him more than strife,
Remind his of the woman in his past.
He'd feared that he would miss her all his life.
He's letting go the memory at last

She's not the kind of woman he can hold.
He watches from afar, and he pretends
That it was different and she could be told...
She speaks to him and then the daydream ends.

It's true he's letting down and letting in
And letting go the things that might have been.
