Chapter 1 by WhiteTigers
Author's Notes: Hey guys! Wow I haven't written in a long time. So! I plan on making this story a long one... In chapters of course. I really hope you guys like this one!

Sorry for any mistakes!
"Major Carter." Teal'c announced his presence in my lab.

"Oh, hey, Teal'c," I smiled, he bowed and made his way over to my side of the work bench.

"I overheard Dr. Jackson and Colonel O'Neill talking about an earth custom."

"And what would that be?" I asked, turning my attention back to the microscope.

"Something referred to as the fair." He keeps his gaze on me and I lift my head in a questioning manner.

"The fair?" I haven't been to the fair in years, decades even.

"Colonel O'Neill mentioned getting ill after going on the giant teacups." I smiled.

"I guess it is that time of year again." The fair always comes in August. "It's basically just a big field filled with rides and games that completely rip you off." I look at Teal'c and see confusion written all over his face.

--

"Hey, Carter," I look up to see my team making their way to the table in commissary I was sitting at.

"Good afternoon," I said with a smile as they all sat down across from me. I took a bite of Jello and looked at them. Colonel O'Neill and Daniel had hopeful looks on their faces.

I slowed my chewing, "May I help you?" I swallowed.

"We heard that you talked to Teal'c this morning." Daniel said, doing that thing where he squints his eyes.

"Yeah, and?" I motioned for them to continue.

"Well, we were thinking," He started.

"Let's take Teal'c to the fair." Colonel O'Neill finished.

I pause. How great it would be to spend the day with my team, having fun, not running from trouble. "Uh, I would love to... but I have to finish these simulations..."

"Oh, c'mon, Carter!" Jack cut me off. "I already got permission for three days of leave for the team."

I looked at them. They started begging me, so I sat back crossed my arms, and sighed. "I guess," I couldn't help but smile when they high-fived.

--

I wake up and walk into the kitchen to start the coffee maker. I walk over to the TV and slip onto the news. I wait for the weather and find out it's going to be in the ninety's.

I go into my closet and look at what I have. I have a ton of shorts, but would that be appropriate? Oh, of course it is! It's not like we're going on a mission. I grab a pair of shorts that are shorter than I would like, but they are shorts. I throw on a grey USAF tee that wasn't exactly loose fitting. I was going to grab a pair of sandals when I realized it's the fair. My feet would get all dirty. I dig around through my closet and found a pair of plain black Converse's. I slipped them on and looked at myself in the mirror. It looked like something Cassie would wear. I shrugged and walked out to grab some cash from my wallet. I stuff two twenty's in my pocket and grabbed my car keys. I locked the door and skipped down the steps. I get in my car and drive to the fair grounds.

--

"Alright, wristbands or tickets?" Jack asks as we walk up to the ticket booth.

"Well, we should probably get tickets first, in case Teal'c doesn't like going on rides." Daniel says. The Colonel buys the tickets and we walk around.

"See anything interesting, Teal'c?" I ask him.

"I would like to challenge the teacups the Colonel O'Neill couldn't defeat." He says as he spots them. We all agree to sit in one teacup and wait for the ride to start.

"Teal'c, it's not a war, you know. I just spun it too fast and I felt sick." Jack says. The teacup starts to slowly circle around on its orbit. Jack takes a hold of the wheel and starts spinning.

"Why did I agree to this?" Daniel looks sick already. I can't help but laugh.

It doesn't take long for Jack to start spinning it at full speed. Everything around us is a blur, I'm dizzy, and my stomach decided to become a ping pong ball. And yet, all I can focus on is Jack. His smile is contagious.

Too soon the ride comes to a stop. We all get off and go to stand in a small circle.

"Well, wristbands? Anyone?" Jack asks.

"What are wristbands?" Teal'c asks.

"You get to ride as many rides as you want as many times as you want." Daniel answers, looking sick.

"Then indeed. We must acquire wristbands."

We head over to the booth and get wristbands for all of us. Teal'c had Daniel running all over the place before Jack and I could get our wristbands on.

--

We were standing in line for the Ferris wheel. Daniel and Teal'c were off somewhere. We finally get up to the front of the line and get in.

"So when was the last time you went to the fair, Carter?" Jack asks me as they flip the switch and we make our way up, only to stop again.

"Um, my senior year in high school, I think." I say.

"Go with friends?"

I nodded, "Yeah, I'd only known them for a few months, but it was fun." We were at the top when the ride came to a jerking stop.

"What the..." He doesn't finish the sentence. We sit there for a few minutes, looking around when suddenly his cell phone rings.

"Colonel O'Neill," He answers crisply. I look at the people on the ground and see a young couple sharing cotton candy. I think back to my summer romance before heading over to the Academy. It was bittersweet.

"Carter?" I hear his voice call my name. I turn and look at him.

"Yes, sir?"

"That was Daniel. He talked to the guys down there and we're stuck. For at least an hour." My heart pounds in my ears. Alone? For an hour? With him? Under other circumstances I would've enjoyed this. But not now. Who am I kidding? I am enjoying this in a sick way. The seat rocks back and forth as he slides down in the seat a little ways and stretches his legs. I sit back and close my eyes.

"Hey, Carter?"

"Yes, sir?"

"Two things. One; while we're up here, drop the sir. And two; why has it been so long since you've been to the fair?" I smile.

"Just never had a purpose to go. Or I was busy." I pause and look at him. "What about you? When's the last time you've been to the fair?"

"The last summer Charlie was alive." He mumbles.

I feel guilty. "Oh God, I'm sorry..."

"Don't be," he cuts me off. "You asked a question, I answered."

"I'm sorry," I say quietly. He sits up and props his elbows on his knees.

"You know, we used to go on the bumper cars. He was just tall enough to drive one of his own. When he would drive into me I would steer and make myself hit the wall. He would laugh so hard. And when we got off he would run up to Sara and brag about winning." He breathes out and then looks at me. I stare back at him.

"One summer, the summer after my mom died, my brother got angry at my dad and took me to the fair in the town we were living in at the time. He took me through the animal barn and when we came up to the horses he found one he wanted to pet. He tried getting its attention... didn't work. It was facing towards the wall and Mark got a little close. The horse kicked Mark in the leg, knocked him to the ground and spilled his shake on himself... That was the first time I had laughed in months." I finish quietly.

"I guess we've both have been hurt, huh?" He gives me a small smile.

"Yeah, I guess so," I admit.

I don't know how long we were up there talking, but the sun was going down, making the sky orange. Daniel had called a few minutes ago to tell us it was worse than they expected. So while we waited, we told stories of our younger selves. He was making me laugh, and for those few hours, I felt free.

"So, when was your first kiss?" He asked.

I snorted. "I was fourteen. We were waiting for the school bus to come and pick us up from school. We'd been dating for about two weeks I think. And I was leaning up against the tree and he came over and kissed me. It was slobbery," I cringed. He busted out laughing.

"Hey, how about you, how was yours?" I couldn't help but laughing either.

"It was at some beach party for the graduates. There was this senior, tall, red hair, she slept around a lot. She asked me to get her a beer so I did. I came back and she just attacked me."

I don't know if it was the place, time, or what. But at the moment I had no control over myself.

"Like this?" I leaned in and planted my lips on his. What was I doing!? I was about to pull away when he gripped my arms and responded. I couldn't help but turn my head and deepen the kiss. For years I had wondered what kissing him was like. And now I know. They're aren't any sparks. There is wildfires. My brain turns to mush and my lungs are craving oxygen. I pull away and look at him. He looks at me and we are about to lean in again when the ride kicks in and almost sends us over the bar. We jerk away from each other and wait to get off.

We step onto the ground where Daniel and Teal'c are waiting for us.

"Uh, I think I'm just going to go home." I say to them and walk away.
