The Tears I Cry
The tears I cry today
Drown the sorrows of my heart
I wanted you to stay so I could say
That we will never part
The fates have not allowed
My words for you to hear
You leave me now weeping here so loud
You will never know how much I care
My heart is torn in two
I must choose my future path
To lay down and die with you
Or deliver them my wrath
All the stars in the sky
All the beauty of the sea
Begs the question of why you had to die
Your death has eluded me
I hold you here in my tender embrace
Willing you to breathe
I looked down at your face
And I began to seethe
I stand up and yell
Shouting for all those to hear
They knew me too well
For the battle field began to clear.
They say your life was taken heroically
In the heat of a battle
The way you always wanted it to be
To drive the enemy away like hard driven cattle
Here in my soul
I scream for absolution
For what I do not know
My heart raw with emotion
You were taken away
To where I do not know
Today I come here to say
That with you they took my soul
The enemy I will fight
In the war I will prevail
And in the end, your life would be like a light
Shinning brightly upon the trail
Today I say goodbye
And I quietly pray
That I will not cry
Yet I know my tears will never go away
It is sad to say
With the tears I cry today
I vow to the heavens above
That you were my only love
