Hammond was proud of her. His eyes twinkled and Sam felt like a child who had just gotten an `A' on a test and had proudly shown her father. She saluted smartly, her mouth beginning to blossom into a smile.
"Thank you, sir."
Sam turned to the Colonel. As they shook hand and saluted, their eyes met. The warmth, pride, and the grin on his lips combined to cause something to spread through her heart. She felt almost… special in his eyes. Like she had passed a crucial test in his mind.
"Well done… Major."

"…and the rank of Major."
Jack fought to hold back a huge grin. He could tell she was elated at being promoted. When Hammond had let him know before the ceremony, pride in his soon - to - be Major had washed through him.
"Thank you, sir."
When she turned to him, Jack could see her smile matched his. It was amazing. In less than three years, she'd gone from being an annoying scientist to a friend, one he was proud to see achieve something she'd worked hard for.
Of course, having her eyes shine at him was… nice.
"Well done… Major."
