Two steps from him she turns and looks his way
Alerted by the strange tone of his voice.
He said something he didn't mean to say
And once again she has to make that choice
A choice she makes when these times come to pass.
Give into him? Pretend she didn't hear?
The answer always falls upon the last,
A choice that's made in both regret and fear.
It's not as though she can't tell what he means.
She knows full well he'd like to speak his mind.
But things aren't near as clear-cut as it seems.
She works with him... these are the ties that bind.
So she pretends she doesn't understand.
She turns away and walks beside the man.
