It was Monday, February 14, Valentines Day, and Samantha Carter was returning to the SGC after a weekend off. She sighed as she stepped off the elevator and headed towards her quarters. Although she wished it were otherwise, today would be just another work day. Sam wished she had the courage to tell one particular person how she felt on this day reserved for lovers. She had even gone as far as to buy him a card but she didn't have the courage to give it to him. What if he didn't feel the same way?

Sam shook her head as she reached her door and opened it. As she stepped inside and turned on the light, she tossed her small case on the chair by the door. Sam turned to move to the bed and gasped. There resting in the center of her bed was a large brown teddy bear. He held a red heart between his front paws and tucked into the ribbon around his neck was one long-stemmed red rose. She smiled and crossed to the bed. Picking up the rose she pulled it to her nose to inhale it's delicate scent. Attached to the rose was a small white card that read, "SAM, WILL....." She frowned slightly and looked around for the rest of the message but couldn't see one.

Sam placed the rose in the glass of water that sat on her night table and picked up the bear. "And just where did you come from, Mr. Bear?" she asked looking into the furry face and dark brown eyes. "Ah so you're the strong, silent type are you?" she added with a smile. "All right." she nodded, "well then, let's give you a name. What shall I call you? How about......Jack, but that's only between you and me, ‘kay." she finished and gave him a soft punch on the snout before setting him back on her bed.

After changing into her BDU's, Sam stepped from her room and headed for the cafeteria. She got into the breakfast line and the server greeted her with a smile.

"What can I get for you this morning, Major Carter?"

"Just some coffee and a blueberry muffin." she replied.

The server smiled then nodded and put the items on Sam's tray along with another red rose and a card.

"Who gave this to you?" Sam questioned.

"I don't know. It was waiting when I arrived this morning with a note that said I was to give it to you when you came in for breakfast."

"Okay, thanks." Sam said and carried her tray to an empty table. When she sat down she looked at the attached card. All it said was, "YOU"

When Sam had finished her breakfast she headed for her lab. With the way her morning had been going, she was not surprised to find two more roses waiting for her. One card read, "BE" and the other said, "MY" Sam smiled and collected what she had come for before heading to the infirmary to speak with Janet.

Janet Fraser looked up and smiled when her friend stepped into the infirmary.

"Morning Sam," Janet said then saw the three roses her friend held in her hands.

"Well, it looks like your Valentine's Day is going well. Who are they from?"

"I have no idea," Sam told her. "Someone has been leaving these all over the base. The first one was in my quarters. I got the next one in the cafeteria and two more were in my lab. The cards were unsigned."

"Well your secret admirer has been here too," Janet grinned "He left this for you," Fraser added and held out another rose. The card attached said simply, "VALENTINE?"

"Janet, you know who left these don't you?"

"Maybe but I certainly wouldn't tell you and spoil the mystery," Fraser quipped.

"Janet."

"No way, Sam. " Janet laughed. "You're going to have to figure this one out on your own."

"I'll get you for this, Jan," Sam threatened playfully.

"I'm sure you will but I'm still not going to tell you," Janet chuckled.

Everywhere Sam went that morning she found a red rose waiting for her; the locker room, the gym, the showers, two more by the coffee maker and when she entered the conference room, two more sat on the table where she usually sat.

The room was empty and Sam smiled as she crossed to her chair. She picked up the first rose and read the inscribed card.

"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth, and breadth, and height my soul can reach."

Sam smiled softly and picked up the second rose. It's card read:

"That is the true season of love, When we believe that we alone can love. That no one could ever have loved so before us, and that no one will love in the same way after us."

I love you my sweet Sam, will you please be mine?

"Well Major," General Hammond said as he stepped into the conference room to find Sam holding a pair of roses to her nose. "It looks like you have a secret admirer," he added with a smile as he crossed to the table.

"Yes, Sir." she replied returning his smile.

Just then the rest of SG1 entered the room "Nice flowers Carter," Jack O'Neill said as the took the chair beside her. "Are they from anyone I know?" he asked with a boyish grin.

"I don't know, Sir," Sam replied then turned to him and met his gaze. "Are they?" she added with a playful, questioning smile.

Daniel couldn't hold back the snicker at the look on Jack's face. "I don't think I've ever seen Jack blush before," he said to no one in particular.

"Ah, stuff it, Danny," Jack responded playfully.

"All right everyone." Hammond said bringing to the room to the business at hand.

An hour later SG-1 was in the gateroom ready to go on another mission. Just as they were about to leave, Janet Fraser rushed into the room.

"Is there a problem, Doctor?" Hammond questioned with concern.

"No Sir. Uhm, Doctor Jackson forgot to take his allergy medication. I refilled it this morning."

"Very well," Hammond added and watched as the doctor approached Daniel.

"Here you go," she said and held out a small bag.

"Is that the CD?" he asked her in a low voice so no one else would hear them.

"Yes. Did you remember the player?"

"Yep, it's in my pack."

"Well then, good luck." Janet stated and stepped away watching as the team headed up the ramp and disappeared into the wormhole.

It had been a busy day and after it had proven rather fruitless Jack called a halt and they set up camp for the evening. They were all sitting around the fire, finishing their dinner when Daniel said. "Hey, I just remembered that today is Valentine's Day."

"What's left of the day," Jack quipped as he looked at his watch.

"DanielJackson, what is this, Valentine's Day?" Teal'c asked his friend.

~Oh good one Teal'c~ Daniel thought and cast his co-conspirator a smile. "Well," he began to explain. "It's an earth holiday that's reserved for lovers. It's a day when you tell the person you love how you feel."

"How does one do this?"

"Well usually you give them a gift something like flowers or candy, or sexy lingerie," Daniel finished and winked at Sam who merely rolled her eyes in mock exasperation.

Teal'c nodded then said, "I think we should do something to celebrate this Valentine's Day."

"And how do you suggest we do that, here?" Jack quipped.

"Well, I think I might just have the answer to that." Daniel smiled and moved to his pack.

He rummaged through it an pulled out three chocolate marshmallow hearts which he passed around. Then he pulled out a CD player and popped in a CD.

"How about we dance." Daniel grinned and moved over to Sam as a happy bright song started.

"Come on, Sam," he smiled and she complied.

Laughter and music filled the night air as Daniel and Sam danced around the fire until Teal'c cut in right in the middle of the song. Jack couldn't help but laugh at the amusing spectacle Teal'c made as he tried, unsuccessfully, to follow Sam. When the song ended Sam stood, bathed in the light of the fire, her face flushed, her laughter filling the night. Jack watched, mesmerized at the breathtaking sight.

"Your turn, Jack." Daniel suggested.

As the refrains of a new song started, Jack got up from his seat and approached Sam. He held out his hand to her. "Would you do me the honor of this dance?" he asked quietly and she nodded, slipping her hand into his.

Jack pulled her close and they began to dance.

If there were no words
No way to speak
I would still hear you.

If there were no tears
No way to feel inside
I'd still feel for you

And even if the sun refused to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart until the end of time
You're all I need, my love, my Valentine

Sam lifted her head from Jack's shoulder and met his gaze. Their eyes held and communicated as they were caught up in the magic of the moment.

All of my life
I have been waiting for
All you give to me
You've opened my eyes
And shown me how to love unselfishly

I've dreamed of this a thousand times before
In my dreams I couldn't love you more
I will give you my heart
Until the end of time
You're all I need, my love, my Valentine

And even if the sun refused to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart until the end of time
‘Cause all I need is you, my Valentine
You're all I need, my love, my Valentine

Daniel and Teal'c shared a secretive smile as their friends quickly became oblivious to everything else but each other. As the first song ended and the next began they quietly gathered up their field packs and slipped into the night moving far enough away to allow their friends privacy but still close enough for safety.

There's a calm surrender
To the rush of day
When the heat of the rolling world
Can be turned away
An enchanted moment
And it sees me through
It's enough for this restless warrior
Just to be with you

And can you feel the love tonight?
It is where we are
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it's laid to rest?
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best

There's a time for everyone
If they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope
Moves us all in turn
There's a rhyme and reason
To the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager
Beats in time with yours

And can you feel the love tonight?
It is where we are
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it's laid to rest?
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best

It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best

As the song ended, Jack tenderly cupped Sam's face.

"I love you, my sweet Sam. Will you please be mine?" he whispered and she smiled.

"It was you," she said softly and he nodded.

"Yes." she told him. "Yes I'll be yours, and I love you too" she finished in a soft whisper and Sam could see the smile in his dark eyes as he drew her lips toward his.

His lips met hers and his kiss was long and searching, full of all the pent up desire that had been held at bay for far too long. When his tongue brushed against her lips, pleading for entry, Sam complied, parting her lips to welcome the invasion of his tongue.

They parted breathlessly and Jack brushed his lips over her forehead then pulled back to look at her and smiled. "Happy Valentine's Day, Sam"

"Happy Valentine's day Jack," she replied returning his smile then pulled her gaze from his and looked around. "Where's Daniel and Teal'c?"

"Slipped away about ten minutes ago." Jack smiled "I think they're trying to be subtle about the fact that they want us to be alone."

Sam smiled and stepped away, heading to where her pack rested against a tree. As she stepped around to the other side of the fire she stopped.

"Ah, Jack." she called and he was at her side seconds later. "Think they're trying to give us a hint?" she asked, flashing him a smile.

Jack laughed when he saw that their two sleeping bags had been zipped together and set out close to the fire.

"I think they set us up." Sam said with a smile and turned to look at him.

"Sorry?" Jack questioned softly.

"Never,"Sam replied and pressed a quick kiss to his lips.

"So, uhm, should we test it out? I mean, we don't want all of Danny and Teal'c's hard work to go to waste now, do we?"

Sam grinned and turned to face him. "Is that a proposition, Colonel?" she purred seductively.

Jack grinned and slipped his arms around her waist. "Might be."

Sam smiled then ran a slender finger down the bridge of his nose. She stepped away and lowered herself to the ground on top of the sleeping bags. She didn't look up at Jack until she had pulled off her boots and started on the buttons of her shirt. She flashed him a seductive grin. "Are you going to stand there all night O'Neill, or are you going to join me? I promise to make it very worth your while."

Jack grinned and moved to lower himself to the other side of the bag. He had his boots off in record time and reached out to pulled her to him. The action caused him to over balance and they both fell back onto the sleeping bag, Sam's giggles ringing in the night air.

"Hey no giggling," Jack threatened playfully as he leaned over her.

Sam smiled up into Jack's dark eyes and threaded her fingers through his hair. She studied him intently, her eyes traveling over every curve and plain of his face as if to commit it to memory.

"Are we doing the right thing, Jack?" she asked softly, her eyes serious.

Jack leaned down and pressed a kiss to the tip of her nose. "I don't know, I only know that it feels right," he answered softly.

Sam smiled and with a gentle tug drew his lips to hers.

The soft glow of moonlight and the warm heat of the fire bathed them in its soft glow as bodies joined and became one. Soft sighs and gasps of pleasure were carried on the wind and blended with the music of the night as they made love long into the night until exhaustion claimed them and they fell asleep in the warmth of each other's arms.

"Welcome back SG-1" General Hammond said as the watched the team move down the ramp. "We'll debrief as soon as you are cleared by medical."

"Yes, Sir," Jack stated with a nod

As Daniel broke away from his team and headed towards the door the General stopped him. "Well, how did it go?" he asked in a low whisper.

"Did it work?"

"Like a charm, Sir," Daniel grinned.

"Excellent." Hammond smiled. "Carry on, Doctor Jackson."

"Yes, Sir," Daniel finished and couldn't help but smile as the General strode from the room whistling a happy tune.

Jack and Sam moved past Daniel towards the door and as they did Jack said, "Just wait until next year."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Daniel asked with a curious frown.

"Turnabout is fair play, Danny boy. Be afraid, be very afraid." Jack quipped and flashed his friend a grin. Sam's laughter filled the room as Jack slipped his arm around her waist and they stepped from the gate room.
