DISCLAIMER: If you read it, you'll realise I don't technically need one, but what the heck, Stargate and all related marks ain't mine, never will be, at this point in time I'mmaking no money from this, but if I ever do it doesn't matter because there's no breach of copyright here.
ARCHIVE: SJA, Heliopolis if they want it.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a bit more deep than I like to be. I should probably get some sleep or something. But you can enjoy it.
FEEDBACK: Guess.
A cry of hope,
A plea for peace,
And my conscience bleedin',
It's not what I want,
For it's all that I need,
To reach the break of
day.

Surrounded.
Not by any living enemy.
Not by something that
can leap out of the bushes and tear you limb from limb.
Not by roaring flames
ready to burn the skin from your bones.
By darkness.
And the darkness beyond
the darkness. The emptiness. The hole that pierces every living person's
heart. No-one is without that hole, the hole that creates a deep pit of
despair in your very soul. Some do not feel the despair, some hide it,
some just ignore it, but it is always there.
And when there is darkness
not only within the soul, but surrounding the body, when tht darkness is
not the warm darkness that comforts you as you sleep, not the velvety blackness
of the heavens, dotted with the tiny pinpricks of light that are all you
can see of the great stars, then you should be afraid.
For then there is only
darkness. When the dark is cold, there is no hope of coming light. No hope
of a torch to show you the way, or to reveal the bottom of the pit of despair,
where the last thing to remain in Pandora's box resides, undeterred. No
hope of Hope.
And in that darkness,
the darkness of desolation, you must wait. For there is nothing else to
do. There is nothing to comfort you during that time of waiting, for you
have no hope. You are in essence dead, for without hope, there is no life,
can be no life, no joy.
The waiting is eternal.
But when it ends, it is worth it. For after the darkness comes the dawn,
after Souls' Midnight comes a new day. And the first ray of sunshine is
the most precious.
But as it is dangerous
to fly close to the sun, as Icarus learnt to his cost, so is it dangerous,
and forbidden, to hold that first ray of sunshine too close. For if one
person holds it close, others cannot see it. Others are robbed of that
first glimmer of hope, and the world is ever the darker for it.

As the dawn breaks, he
looks at the first ray of sunshine. It falls upon another ray of sunshine,
the one that was his first true ray of sunshine. It lit the darkness of
his soul, gave Hope the energy to rise out of the pit in his heart. He
cannot have this sunshine, it is forbidden to him. But he may look at it.
It saves him, and he in turn saves it. When they look at each other, their
eyes, the windows to their souls, light up.
The light awakens her,
and she sits up. She looks at him. She knows he has been watching her,
knows what she means to him.
She makes a decision,
and stands. Swiftly she crosses the ground between them, and raises her
hand to his face, drawing it down to hers and keeping it there while they
kiss.
What is sunlight if it
has nothing to shine upon?

No idea where that came from. Hope it made some vague semblance of sense.
