"Really?! Who?" Daniel beamed excitedly. "My cousin. Ashley" Sam replied. "When's she coming?"
"Tomorrow."
"Wow! Does Jack know?"
"No."
"I'll tell him" Daniel said happily as he skipped off to Jack's quarters.
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~
"Jack!"
"Calm down Danny. I'm here. What?"
"Can I come in?"
"Ok."
"Guess what?!"
"I'm no good at guessing games. What?"
"Ooh. One little guess?"
"Daniel" Jack chastised. "Come on!" he encouraged. "Oh for cryin' out loud. The sky is falling? I don't know! What?!" Jack answered sarcastically. "No. Anyway, Sam's cousin Ashley, is coming to join SG1" Daniel smiled. "Why?"
"What? A new member, and all you can say is, why?"
"What do you want me to say Danny? Hip, hip hooray, we've got a new member!? Why are we getting a new member anyway?"
"The General thought it would be a good idea apparently. Anyway, it turns out, the person he chose is Sam's cousin."
"I didn't know she had a cousin in the Military?"
"Neither did I. Who cares! Aren't you even a little bit excited about recruiting a new member?"
"Sure Daniel. I'm all happy on the inside. That all you wanted to tell me?"
"Yes. See ya."
"Yah, bye."

"Ashley. Hi" Sam said as she walked over to hug her cousin. Her shoulder length blonde hair swayed as she dropped her bags and quickened her walk over to Sam. They smiled as they embraced each other. They hadn't seen each other in a few months. They talked on the phone, all the time, but hadn't seen each other in a while. "How are you Sammie?" Ashley questioned. "I'm not Sammie here, Ash. But I'm good. How about you? Gosh, you look great" Sam said. "So do you. I'm great. So glad to be here. I was thrilled when they told me you were here too. We've got so much to talk about still. I know we talk on the phone a lot, but actually being here, it's great."
"Yeah. First thing's first. This is my CO, Colonel Jack O'Neill" Sam said as she gestured to him. He stepped forward and accepted a handshake from Ashley. "Pleasure to meet you" he said politely with a smile. "The pleasure's all mine, I assure you" Ashley smiled as she held his hand a little longer than was appropriate. /Hey! Hands off! / Sam thought. "Ash" Sam jabbed an elbow in her side and chastised in a low, hushed tone. Her cousin smiled again and released Jack's hand. "Daniel Jackson" Sam gestured over to him. He also accepted a polite handshake. "Hi" he said. "And Teal'c" Sam said as Daniel and Ashley's hands separated quickly. Teal'c simply bowed his head as he always did. Ashley smiled. "It is a pleasure to be introduced to you" Teal'c commented. "And you" Ashley smiled again, a little unsure of the larger man. Sam took one of her bags. "Come on Ash. I'll show you your quarters" She said to her. "Ok" she replied, reluctantly turning and grabbing her other things and leaving with her cousin. "Who's the cutey?" Ashley asked as she walked with Sam. "Ash!" she chastised. "What?" she asked innocently. Sam had told Ashley, when they talked on the phone, of an officer she was absolutely crazy about. Jack. She told Ashley everything she wanted to tell him, but couldn't because of regs and the whole CO, 2IC thing. Ashley listened intently to the crazy thoughts, feelings and dreams she had about him. She continually asked Sam to tell her the name of this officer, so they didn't have to keep referring to him as, the gorgeous guy. Sam always pledged that she would never tell her his name, and now she was glad she didn't. She had never described him though. Only that she was lost in his eyes and when he smiled. "So, who is he?" Ashley asked again. "My CO! And yours now too. Why?" Sam asked openly. "Why?! Because he's gorgeous! Hooked up?"
"Ashley! No, as a matter of fact. He split with his wife" Sam answered. She was completely disheartened to know her own cousin liked him too. What the hell was she supposed to do now? Say to her that he is the one that she always talked about, or not tell her anything and just see what happens? Sam was completely in limbo. "Cool. So, he's free. How come nobody else has come and stolen him away yet? Everyone around here must be blind! Or already married" Ashley commented. Sam felt her heart beating faster. *She* wanted him. But she was too stupid to say anything. She could have shot herself for that now. "Sammie? You ok? You look very whitish in the face" Ash told her. Sam felt pale. She felt like someone had drained all the blood from her body. How could this be happening to her?! "Yeah. I'm fine" she replied, rather convincingly. "So anyway. Who's this guy you're interested in? Cos if he is half as good as him, then..."
"Oh, I'm not interested in him anymore" Sam cut her off with a lie. She couldn't talk about it anymore. She would absolutely kill herself when she had a moment alone. "How come? You sounded pretty serious about him. Is he a sleaze?"
"No!" Sam snapped. /Shit. You stuffed that one up Sam! Had to open your big mouth and tell Ashley *all* about him, and how you want him. Didn't think she might come here, now did you? No! Stupid! / Sam thought to herself. "No. He's... uh.... well... turns out he's not my type" she covered. /Good save Sam/ she thought. "Not your type?! The way you described him, he sounded as though he was a major honey. I think I'd make him my type if I was you!" Ashley exclaimed. Sam stopped outside a door and handed her a key. "Here's your quarters. I'll leave you alone to unpack and stuff. Mine quarters are just down the corridor, so when you're done, you can come down and we can talk some more. And I'll give you the fifty-cent tour. Ok?"
"Sure Sammie, oops. Sorry. Sam. I'll get it right. Thanks."
"No problem. Bye."
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~
"Right. Now would be a good time to kill myself!" Sam exclaimed angrily to herself as she walked to her quarters. "Why's that Carter?"
"Whoa!"
"Hey. Sorry. What ya gonna kill yourself for?" Jack asked as he raised his hands in front of him in capitulate. Sam sighed and he dropped them to his sides again. "Sorry sir. You just startled me, that's all" Sam sighed again. "Sorry. You weren't going to kill yourself because of that were you?" Jack smiled. "No. No not at all. I was just thinking out loud sir. You weren't supposed to hear that."
"Oh. Ok. Say, that cousin of yours had something weird goin' on. Was it me? She seemed a little, uh, well..."
"*Too* friendly?" Sam offered. "Kinda. Was it just me?"
"No. She's just nervous. She'll be fine. Sorry if she offended you or anything."
"Nah. I was just wondering. Has she met Hammond yet?"
"Not yet. I was just going to get her to do that actually."
"Sorry for holding you up."
"That's all right sir." Sam watched as Jack turned and started to leave. "Uh, Colonel!" She called, and she didn't know why. "Yeah?" He turned back to her. "Oh... nothing." Jack smiled and then continued to leave.
^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
"General. I'd like you to meet my cousin, Captain Ashley Lilely" Sam said as they entered his office. He stood up and shook her hand. "Pleasure to meet you Captain. I've heard a lot about you" he smiled and sat down again after releasing her hand. "Really. Nothing bad I hope?" she smiled. "No, no. Are you all settled, and know where everything is?"
"Yeah. Sam just showed me everything. Big place you got here."
"Let's go Ash. Just thought you'd like to meet her General" Sam said as Ashley walked out. "Thank you Major" Hammond said as Sam left also.
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~
"Chevrone seven, locked. Wormhole established!" Was called two days later on their first mission as a new team. "Wow" Ashley breathed as the Stargate burst into life before her eyes. "Cool huh?" Jack asked. "Yeah. And you get to do this everyday?"
"Yah."
"Whoa. This is so, so..."
"Big?" Daniel offered. "Yeah!"
"And expensive" Jack quipped. "That too."
"SG1, you have a go! Good luck" Hammond called over the PA. Sam took her cousin's arm and walked her up the ramp with rest if them. She was unsure. "Piece of cake" Jack told her. She smiled nervously. "Come on" Jack encouraged. She put her arm out for him to slip his under. He smiled and reluctantly did. She smiled too and then walked through with Sam and Jack. Teal'c and Daniel followed closely behind.
^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
"Wow! That was so cool!" Ashley exclaimed. Jack quickly pulled his arm from under hers and checked the MALP. Sam walked down to the sandy ground in front of them. "Air's hot" she commented. "Yeah" Jack agreed. "So. Now what do we do?" Ashley asked. "Now, we go off searching for civilization or any signs of life. Sound like fun? I assure you, it is" Jack explained, slightly sarcastically. Ashley laughed a little too loudly. "You're funny" she commented through her giggles. Jack smiled and raised an eyebrow. Directed at Sam. She shrugged and they started to head off. Ashley finally recovered and followed them. After nearly two hours of searching and minimal discoveries, they decided it was probably an uninhabited planet. "Guess no one lives here then" Ashley stated the obvious. "No shit Sherlock" Jack retorted. She remained silent after that. He thought he'd better apologise when they got back. They reached the Stargate and Sam dialled it up. Once dialled, Daniel punched in their Remote Access Code and they stepped through.
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~
"Welcome back SG1. De-briefing in one half hour" the General called over the PA. They all nodded and headed off in their own separate directions. Jack noticed Ashley seemed to be floundering in the Gate Room, wondering where to go. "You wanna come to the Infirmary with me?" he asked her. She spun around, slightly startled. He raised an eyebrow questioningly. She smiled. "Thanks. I wasn't sure where everyone was going" she said, somewhat embarrassed. "Yeah. We all usually head off to the Infirmary for our regular after mission check up. Or to the locker room. Where do you want to go?" Jack explained as they left the Gate Room. "Infirmary sounds fine" Ashley replied. "Ok" Jack confirmed. "Listen, Captain, about earlier. Sorry. I'm usually like that. You know, open your big mouth before you think? That's me. You'll get used to it, and learn to ignore me. Everyone else has."
"That's ok Colonel. I wasn't bothered. Really."
"Cool. So, you'll just learn to ignore me then?"
"Sure" Ashley smiled. "If you need some help, which you won't, just ask Carter or Danny. They'll give you hand. It's a piece of cake though."
"I'm sure you're just exaggerating."
"Not on this one."
"Thanks for the warning Colonel. I'll keep it in mind."
^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
"Captain Lilely. How did your first mission go?" the General questioned as they all sat down at the de-briefing table. "Very well thank you sir" she replied as she sat down next to Sam. "That's good Captain. Well, let's start the de-briefing." That was at 16:00 hours. At 17:50, the de-briefing had finally finished. Sam and Ashley left together for a gossip session. "So Sam. Tell me more about, Jack. What's he like?" Sam felt her heart palpitating again. She thought that maybe Ashley would get over it. That maybe it was just a little thing. Now she thought she was wrong. What was she supposed to do? What if Ashley beat her to him? What if she was too late? She would really kill herself if she was. "He's... uh, well..." Sam found she almost wanted to lie and put her off him. She didn't know how to describe him. Oh yes she did. She knew exactly how to describe him. Beautiful deep brown eyes. Gorgeous smile. Sam could tell her a million little things that no one else would ever notice, but she couldn't. She didn't want to look suspicious. But maybe she would have to tell her. "Sam?"
"Maybe you should ask Daniel."
"Sam?! Come on!" Ashley exclaimed as they stopped outside her room and she inserted the key into the hole and opened the door. They both went inside and Ashley closed the door behind them. "I don't know!"
"You don't know? You see him, like, every day, and you don't know?! Come on Sam. Do you think I'm stupid? Well, newsflash, I'm not." /Oh no. Don't tell me she knows! Please don't tell me that/ Sam thought. "I've seen you looking at him. You think he's cute too, don't you?" Ashley smiled. /Is that all she thinks!? Phew! / "No. Well, sort of.... Yeah. But I don't know how to describe my CO. Really; I think you should ask Daniel or someone else. Sorry."
"Oh, ok. I guess I understand where you are coming from. I'll just have to figure it out for myself then, won't I?"
"Ash. You can't."
"Why not?"
"Because. He's your CO. You can't have any kind of relationship with him."
"Damn. Oh well. I'll just see him outside of here. They can't stop me doing that."
"Ashley" Sam chastised her younger cousin. "Sam" Ashley countered, sarcastically. "I'm serious. You'll get a Court-Martial."
"No I won't. And I don't care if I do. They can't stop me Sam. And neither can you. Can you leave now please?" Ashley said seriously. Sam got up and silently left.
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~
"Colonel O'Neill" Ashley said as she saw him. Three days later and they were on stand-down. She finally decided to approach him. "Hey Lilely. How you doin'?" Jack asked. "Good thanks. And yourself?"
"Fine. What can I do for you?"
"Are you going home?"
"Yeah."
"Oh."
"Why?"
"Oh. Nothing. It's ok. You go."
"Come on Lilely. What?"
"I...well... I was wondering if you're doing anything?" Ashley asked, and stared at the ground. "Uh. No. Again, why?" Jack asked tentatively. "I uh... oh... I was just curious" she stammered a lie. Jack knew it too. "I don't think so Lilely. What were you really going to ask?"
"How'd you know I was lying?"
"Don't change the subject either. I could tell."
"I was going to ask if you minded going to dinner or something?" Again, she found the ground incredibly interesting. "Lilely. I know what you're trying to do, and I'm sorry, but we're in the Military. We can't see each other. If it was a purely friendly dinner then..."
"It is."
"But you and I both know it isn't. Again, I'm real sorry. But it can't happen. I'm going to go. G'night."
"Yeah. Night" Ashley said as he walked away. She sighed. "Blew it Ash. Completely blew it!"
"Hi Ashley."
"Whatever" she muttered grumpily as she walked away. Not even bothering to see whom it was. Daniel watched her go and shrugged to himself. /Must have had a bad day/ he thought.
^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
"Colonel." Jack heard a voice calling his title. In a bar, and someone was calling him "Colonel"? It could only be one in a handful of people. He turned and saw Sam. "Hi Carter" he said with a smile. He was surprised to see her. "What are you doing here?" Sam asked. "Same thing as you I guess. Still, I was just leaving. Decided I rather go home. Don't want to wake up with a headache in the morning. And besides, I haven't even got near the bar yet."
"Yeah. Pretty busy here tonight huh?"
"Yeah."
"Ashley dropped me off. I saw you, it's raining and I was actually wondering if you would mind driving me home?"
"Sure."
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~
"Thanks Colonel. I really appreciate it" Sam said as they pulled up in her driveway. "That's ok Carter. Couldn't have you standing around in a bar all alone now could I?" Jack commented, turning off the engine. "Thanks sir."
"We're off duty now. It's Jack."
"Sorry. Jack."
"I'll walk you to your door" Jack said as they got out of his car and ran through the heavy rain to Sam's front door. "Would you like to come in for a while?" Sam asked, as she was about to go inside and saw he was soaking wet and getting wetter. Jack looked thoughtful for a brief moment and then nodded. "Why not?" he said. Sam gestured for him to go in. He smiled and walked inside. Sam turned and closed the door behind him. She raced around into the kitchen and turned on a few lights on the way. Jack smiled at the sudden light and followed its glow to the kitchen. "Coffee?" Sam asked. "If you have one."
"I am."
"Ok then" Jack agreed. Sam filled the kettle and switched it on. She flicked the light on in the lounge room. "Sit down" she said. Jack obeyed and sat on the three-seater, sofa, after taking off his wet jacket. Sam smiled. She ran to her room slipped off her shoes and threw them inside, without bothering with the light. She decided that she'd clean the mess in the morning. Sam heard the kettle had boiled and made the coffees. She walked carefully into the lounge room and placed the cups on the small coffee table in front of the sofa. She turned on her heater and took off her coat, laying it in front of the heater. "You want me to dry your jacket?" she asked Jack, noticing he'd taken it off. "Thanks" he answered as she put it with her coat on the floor in front of the heater. Sam sat on the sofa. A small distance between her and Jack. /This would be the perfect opportunity to tell him how I feel. No! I can't. Regs and everything. But I want to. I want him to know. I want to know if he feels the same. I have to know. I'll tell him. No, I won't. Oh! I don't know what to do! / "Jack" she said suddenly, remembering to use his name. "Mmm?" he mumbled as he picked up the coffee mug and took a sip of its hot contents. "Did Ashley talk to you at all today?" Sam asked, kind of hoping he would say no. "Matter of fact, she did. Why?"
"Oh she did. Mind if I ask what she said to you?"
"She... well, let's just say that when I thought she was a little too friendly, I wasn't imagining things."
"Oh. What did you say to her?"
"Basically, that I wasn't interested. Don't get me wrong, she's real friendly..."
"But, a little *too* friendly?"
"A little. I hope she isn't upset or anything. I didn't exactly hold back."
"That's good. She needed to be put in her place. She tends to have her head in the clouds, and forgets the real world is actually happening around her."
"I figured. Still, she'll get over it."
"Yeah. She always does."
"What'd ya mean by that?"
"Oh, she's always doing and saying things that she probably shouldn't. And she usually regrets it."
"Oh well. That's sort of a good thing. Sometimes you just have to say what you feel, even if it does blow up in your face. At least that way you know." That made Sam think. He was right. She should tell him. She had to know. And even if it did blow up in her face, she would at least know. If Ashley could do it, then so could she. Sam built up the courage, and decided she would. /What the hell?!/ She thought, /and I really have to know! / "Jack."
"Yeah?"
"There's something I've been needing to tell you for a while. I think I should tell you."
"Whoa. Sounds serious. Go ahead."
"No, no. It's nothing bad. I uh, I don't really know how to say it. You know how you were saying, that sometimes you need to say what you feel? That you just have to know?"
"Yeah."
"Well, I guess that's what this is. It's what I feel. I've felt it a long time, and I've decided I have to know. I can't wait anymore. I guess what I'm saying in a roundabout kind of way is..."
"I love you." They said simultaneously. They smiled. "How long?" Jack asked. "I knew the moment you looked at me and smiled. In that moment, the world stopped for me. And everyone was screaming at me. Telling me that you were the one. But I was too stupid to do anything until now."
"So was I."
"You've known since then too?"
"Oh yeah. It felt like that for me too. Why I didn't say anything, I can't tell you. I don't know. Tell you the truth, I wish I did."
"So do I. We know now" Sam tone changed as they slowly got closer. "Yeah."
"And I don't really give a damn about regs. How about you?" Their lips brushed each other's lightly. "Yeah" Jack replied breathlessly. Their arms quickly wrapped around each other and their lips locked in a deep, sweet, passionate kiss. Sam slowly pushed Jack to lie on the lounge. He slowly did and she lay on him. She found his shoes, and removed them. Then she let her hands caress his body. Moving over his chest and to his neck. Kissing him sweetly. She slowly found the shoulders of his partially unbuttoned shirt and slid her hands under each one. She gradually pushed them off his shoulders and down his arms until it was off. Jack's hands caressed her form softly. Over her shoulders, down her arms. Over her back. Down her neck, over her breasts, and down her sternum. She moaned at his feather light touch. She ran her hands over his bare chest. Finding his lips again, she let him remove her shirt. Fiddling with each button. Slowly pushing it off her shoulders. "Sorry Sam. I forgot my..." Sam and Jack's lips separated and their heads both flew up and poked over the top of the sofa to see Ashley standing only a few meters away. "Ashley. Hi. What are you doing back so soon?" Sam asked casually, running a hand nervously through her hair. "I forgot my coat. I guess I picked a bad time huh? I'll just get it and go." She disappeared for a moment, and then walked back to the front door. "Sorry for interrupting" she said, a sarcastic tinge, lacing her words. Jack and Sam sighed as she left. As the door closed, Sam let out another emphatic sigh. "Boy, was that close or what?" she asked. "Yeah. I didn't know she was living with you."
"Yeah. She said it's only until she finds a place closer. I'm hoping that will be soon."
"I bet." There was a silence. "Now. Where were we?" Sam purred seductively. Kissing the nape of Jack's neck lightly. Moving upward, slowly, she eventually captured his mouth. Her tongue sliding along his lower lip, seeking entrance. He obliged and their tongues duelled for dominance. They resumed their previous lying position and Sam slid her hand down Jack's pants. She skimmed her finger along his growing erection. He moaned softly. She smiled on his lips. With both hands, she found the zipper on his jeans and pulled it down. Undoing the button at the top, she pushed the jeans down his legs, and kicked them to the floor. Jack, found her pants also, and did away with them in a similar fashion. Sam undid the hook on her bra, and let it fall off her shoulders. Anything else they wore was soon dismembered also. "God, Jack" Sam wined on his mouth. "Sam" he countered. "Jack... I want you, right now."
"I'm... yours."
"I want you inside me. Now." Sam felt him fill her. She sighed. Such a complete feeling. He completed her, and she had taken so long to tell him. How could they both have been so blind? She wondered, but it didn't take long for her to forget all about it and tune in with what she was doing now. And, oh God, was she loving every minute of it. Through sweaty, heated kisses, and rocking hips, they awaited their climaxes. "Why the hell did we leave it this long?" Jack breathed through their passionate kisses. "I wish I knew. I could kill myself for not saying anything until now though" Sam replied breathlessly. "Oh God, please don't."
"Not a chance."
"Good."
"You didn't think... I would actually... want to stop... oh God... doing this... did you?"
"No."
"Good. God Jack!" Sam cried. Her hands clenched tightly on his shoulders. Finally, she came, and he followed shortly after. Moaning each other's names, they collapsed into each other's arms on the length of sofa. Breathing heavily, until they finally calmed and their bodies sated. "Jack" Sam whispered. "Mmm?" he murmured. "I love you."
"I love you too."
"Do you regret anything?"
"I regret, not telling you I loved you sooner."
"Yeah."
^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
They slept the whole, freezing night in each other's arms on Sam's couch. Ashley came home, and left them to sleep. She got home late anyway. She was partly angry that Sam didn't tell her about her, obvious, feelings for him. But more, she was happy that they were together. And she figured out that he was obviously the unnamed officer that Sam continually talked about. And her description was accurate too. Ashley could always picture the man Sam spoke of. Her mental image was pretty close. Ashley always gathered, from Sam's account, that he was tall, gorgeous, and pretty much close to being perfect. Well, now she knew why Sam described him like that. Because to her, he was perfect. "Mr. Right" if you like. Ashley envied her cousin. After all that time they were spending together, and she didn't even once question him or talk to him about anything besides work. She wondered how her cousin could be so stupid, but was happy for her. At least now, she understood why he wouldn't see her. Because he really wanted Sam. She wondered how stupid he must be too. Ashley decided that they were both as stupid as each other. But at least now, she knew why. That made her feel a little better. A lot actually. She didn't disturb them. Just got a blanket and swathed it over them. They looked cold. And the night was bitter.
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~
Jack woke up to the soft touch of fingers combing mindlessly through his hair. "Morning." Sam's voice accompanied the fingers. "It is?"
"Mmm. Early. Still tired?"
"Yeah."
"Me too. Sleep."
"What about..."
"Shhh. Doesn't matter. Sleep."
"Yes Ma'am" Jack replied dazedly as sleep overcame him quickly.
^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
"Good morning" Ashley said chirpily. "Why are you so happy?" Sam asked. "I'm not. Just awake."
"What'd you do last night?"
"Not half as much as you by the looks."
"Funny."
"Where's your sense of humour Sammie?"
"Don't call me that. I don't know. Maybe I forgot to pick it up on the way out of heaven" Sam smiled. Suddenly her tiredness, forgotten. "Wha?" Ashley asked quizzically. "Nothing. Are you making breakfast?"
"Yeah. Want some?"
"What are you making?"
"Pancakes."
"Ok. Jack's still asleep. Save some."
"Ok. So I'm guessing you did have a good time?" Ashley smiled deviously. "Might have."
"Might? Hah! You did, and I know that as well as you do. Details?"
"Not a chance. Where are these pancakes?"
"Coming. Coming. Be patient."
"Forgot how. Being patient isn't something I want to do anymore." Sam smiled as she looked into the lounge room and saw Jack still asleep on the sofa. He was hers now. She had been patient, too long. She wasn't going to be anymore. "How many?" Ashley asked, waking Sam from her thoughts. "Hmm? Sorry. What did you say?"
"You got it bad, girl. Sad really. I said, how many do you want?"
"One."
"One? I made heaps. One won't really fill you up much."
"What?"
"Oh, get with it Sam. I asked you how many pancakes you wanted, and you said one. You sure?"
"Yes. I only want one. Him" Sam said, dreamily watching Jack sleep. "I know *that*! How many *pancakes* do you want?!" Ashley asked again. "Shh! Keep it down. Sorry Ash. A bunch, I don't care. Thanks."
"I swear, you were in another world then. You even looked spacey. Are you ok?"
"Course I'm ok. I'm better than ok. I'm over the moon. I feel like I've died and gone to heaven."
"Of course you do. Stupid question. Here. Eat these and stop thinking about things with names starting with J" Ashley told her. She smiled. How could she? Stop thinking about him? She didn't even know what that sentence meant, little own how to achieve it. She didn't want to try either. She forgot all about the food in front of her, and stared into the lounge room from the kitchen table. As she watched, she saw Jack stir, and wake up. She smiled and walked over to him and he sat up and blinked his eyes into focus. "Hi" she said. "Hey. Been up long?" he asked. "No. Want breakfast?"
"Sure. What's cooking?"
"Pancakes. Thanks to Ash."
"Cool. Good on ya Ash" Jack said as he got up and headed to the kitchen with Sam.
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~
"Mmm. These are good Ash" Sam said as she chomped on some of her syrup-drowned pancakes. "How can you tell?" Jack asked, nodding at the river of Maple syrup covering her stack of pancakes. She smiled. "I like syrup" she replied. "Oh, really?! I couldn't tell" Jack commented in a lighthearted, sarcastic tone. "Anyone want more?" Ashley asked as she carried her plate to the sink. "No thanks Ash. I'm full" Sam said as she finished off her stack. Ashley turned her questioning gaze to Jack. He shook his head also. "No thanks" he confirmed. She nodded and put her plate in the sink. She took Sam's and Jack's away too, and added them to the bunch of utensils she'd used to prepare the pancake batter. "Hey! Don't touch those. Me and Sam will clean them up."
"No, it's ok. I'll..."
"Uh, uh! No buts. We'll do them. Off you go" Jack said, waving his hands for her to leave. She smiled and obeyed. "That was nice" Sam commented. "Why, thank you."
"I mean it. I didn't know you were so considerate."
"Now you know. Come on. I'll dry."
"Oh! So, I get to wash."
"Yep. Get washin' girl." Jack smiled mischievously. Sam smiled back and filled the sink with warm water and washing detergent. She started washing, and then got a good idea. After a few things were washed and put away, she waited for the perfect moment, and splashed Jack with the soapy water. She giggled artfully as he wiped it away from his face. He flicked an equal amount on to her. Her giggles quickly ended, and she smeared the suds off her face. It was Jack's turn to laugh. "You are so gonna pay for that!" she exclaimed. "You started it!" Jack replied. Ashley walked out into the kitchen. "What's goin... ah! Hey! What the hell?!" she said as she copped an eyeful of soapy water. She cleaned it off her face and joined in the war of bubbles.
^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
After Sam's kitchen was completely covered in water and bubbles, and they were all nearly drenched in the suds, they stopped and scanned the war zone. They all laughed. It was a bigger mess now. "Well, we've certainly got a bigger mess than before, now, haven't we?" Ashley said. "Mmm. Oh well" Sam said. "I'd better get going" Jack told them. "Do you have to?" Sam asked disappointedly. She turned to him and coiled her arms around his waist, as though it would stop him from leaving her. "Yeah. I should. Sorry." Jack wrapped his on arms around her. She smiled. She felt so safe in his arms. So warm. So, protected. She knew she was in good hands when she was with him. His touch, always reassuring her. Always reminding her that he loved her, and that he would take care of her. She loved that feeling. She loved him. "Why can't you stay? What are you doing today?" Sam interrogated. Questioning why he had to leave her when she didn't want him to. "Nothing too much, but...."
"Well then stay a bit longer."
"But, I have to get some stuff done. I'll see you. Don't worry. I'm not leaving the country. How about you come to my place tonight?"
"Mmm. Ok. Sounds nice."
"Ok. Whatever time you like. Bye Ashley" Jack said as he waved one hand from around Sam's waist. "Bye" she smiled. "Sam" Jack said, in regard that her arms were still around him. "I don't want you to go" she confessed. "You'll see me tonight. It's not that long until then. Come on. You'll survive. Bye" Jack told her, putting her face toward him, and kissing her goodbye. "See ya tonight" Sam smiled as he gathered any loose items strew across the floor. "Yah. See ya" Jack said as he headed for the door and Sam followed him. "Bye" she said reluctantly. She pulled him in for one more kiss and then let him go. He smiled, and she watched him leave. "You're in so deep, aren't you?" Ashley asked as Sam returned glumly to the kitchen. "What do you mean?" Sam asked. "I mean you're absolutely crazy about him. I mean look at you! You're down in the dumps, already, because he had to leave. You're going to see him tonight. Tonight, for crying out loud! Not that long. He's got a life of his own too Sam. He probably has things to do. This relationship of yours is new. It's gonna take time for you both, well, him maybe, to adjust to the whole thing. You seem to already think you're married, and he has to tell you everything he does and when and why. Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh Sam, but you are kind of acting a little possessive. Actually no, *very* possessive. He doesn't belong to you, as much as I know you would like him to. I just think you might have forgotten that" Ashley explained as Sam slumped into a lounge chair. She sighed. Unfortunately, Ash was right. She was acting as though he belonged to her, and that he should tell her exactly where he was going and how long he'd be gone. She didn't want him to leave her. She wanted him to stay with her all the time. Never leave her side, kind of thing. And she *was* acting possessive. "The boy is mine" sort of stuff. It wasn't something she planned to do, but now that she had him, and she knew he loved her, she felt as though they practically should be married, so that no one could take him away from her. Kind of like if, he went out, someone else might spot him and steal him away from her. Ashley was right when she first commented on the fact that no one had stolen him away yet. Sam wondered, maybe, if she was blind too. I mean, she'd worked with him nearly everyday, for so long, and she hadn't said anything. How could she have been so stupid?! She could barely take her eyes off him when they worked, and in briefings and things. She stared so obviously. She just couldn't stop looking at him. She *had* to watch his every move. Memorise every expression. Take in every detail. Everything about him, she wanted to know, and know it off by heart when she finally did. Now she knew what it was like under those fatigues. And how gorgeous that was too. She herself couldn't find any fault in him. Nothing. To Sam, every single thing about him was perfect. From his deep brown eyes, to his quiet, gentle hands. Everything. Sam wondered how God could make someone so perfect. She didn't wonder long, because she knew, he belonged to her. And no one was going to take him away now.

Sam knocked a few solid knocks on Jack's front door and waited for a reply. Finally, a dripping wet and towel clad Jack, opened the door. "Hey. I wasn't expecting you now" he said, opening the door further for her to go in. She went in and saw he was right. "Oh. I guess not" she said as she looked him over, noticing he was wet. "Sorry about the mess. I... well... hang on, I'll get dressed" he told her and disappeared. Sam sat on the sofa and skimmed the TV guide. Nothing, as usual. "You want me to make coffee?" Sam called. "No. I'll do it" Jack replied as he returned, fully clothed. "Oh ok" Sam said. Shortly after, he returned, a coffee mug in each of his hands. "Thanks" Sam said as she accepted her mug from Jack. He sat down. "Déjà vu" Sam commented. "What?"
"Déjà vu. Last night?"
"Oh yeah. I thought you meant me handing you a cup of coffee, that's all."
"No. You did a whole more interesting things last night though." Sam countered, saucy tone lacing her voice. "Yeah. What are you suggesting?"
"Ooh, maybe that we have another night like last night again tonight."
"Really?"
"Yes. Really."
"Oh. And what do you expect me to say?" Sam brushed her lips over his. "Yes" she whispered. "Looks like I haven't got a say."
"Oh, you have. You'd just better hope you choose the right one."
"And what was that supposed to mean?"
"That if you don't say yes, you'll seriously regret it. In more ways than one" Sam added as she kissed he nape of Jack's neck softly. "Oh. Well then. I guess, yes, is the go."
"Good. What do you say we take this somewhere a little more comfortable?"
"The ideas you have amaze me."

"Sam" Jack whispered as he touched her shoulder. "Hmm?" she said, startled by the sudden awakening. "Only me. Thought I should wake you up. It's late. We have a briefing this morning. Don't wanna be late, now do we?"
"Yes. I want to stay here with you."
"I wanna stay here with you too, but I think Hammond will get suspicious if we both don't turn up. Come on. Up."
"Ok, ok."
"You want the shower first?"
"Who says we can't share?"
"Sam."
"What?"
"We gotta act, natural. Nothing going on sorta thing. We'll look totally conspicuous if we don't."
"The General isn't here now."
"You're right. Who cares!?"
"Now you're talking!"
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~
"Sam!"
"I'm coming!"
"Come on!"
"I know! How late are we?"
"Very!"
"Ok, ok. I'm here. Let's go."
"What were we thinking?"
"About what? Oh yes, the whole 'shower together' thing. Well it was fun wasn't it?"
"Yeah. It was actually."
"See? But I know, we're majorly late."
"Yah. You go in your car. I'll follow."
"Ok."
^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
"Colonel. Major. Nice of you to join us this morning."
"Sorry General. Held up in traffic."
"Traffic" they said simultaneously. They looked at each other in surprise. With raised eyebrows, they sat where they normally would and acted as they would on any other normal day. Daniel eyed them suspiciously. To him, they seemed to be acting rather conspicuous, although they did *seem* to be *trying* to make it look unobvious, it wasn't working for him. And he noticed Ashley looked as though she already knew, because she seemed to be purposely not acknowledging their strange behaviour. Daniel intended to interrogate them both as soon as the briefing was over. Three hours later, it was. Daniel followed Sam and Jack as they left together. "Jack! Sam!" he shouted after them. They both spun around. Startled by the sudden calling of their names by the same voice. "Daniel. Hi. How are you?" Sam asked casually. "I'm fine Sam. What's going on with you two?" Daniel asked, almost sharply. "Nothing! I mean, nothing's going on Daniel. What makes you think something is going on?" Sam queried. Stupid thing to do. He had a million things that made him think it. "Hmm, let's see. The way you two have been acting this morning. And how you both, 'coincidentally' arrived at exactly the same time, and claimed it to be because of traffic at exactly the same time. Would you like me to go on?"
"No Daniel. You've made your point" Jack told him. "Thank you. So?"
"So, yes. There is, 'something going on' as you said" Sam confirmed. "All right. And what exactly is this something?"
"Something, is, we were late because we were at my place last night."
"And?"
"And! And we were at my place the night before. And no, we weren't just discussing the weather Daniel. We're seeing each other. Happy?" Sam enlightened him. "Yes. You know that you could get a Court-Martial. Don't you?"
"Of course we know Daniel" Jack replied. "We also know, we don't care. We love each other, and we don't care about Court-Martial, or anything else for that matter" Sam said as she wrapped her arms around Jack's waist, just to prove she was serious. As though Daniel couldn't tell on his own. "Just don't tell Hammond. Huh?" Jack added, enveloping his own arms around Sam. "Wouldn't dream of it. I'm happy for you both. And I won't tell anyone. But something tells me, that a certain someone, already knows" Daniel said, referring to Ashley. "Ashley?"
"Yeah."
"We know she knows."
"How?"
"Oh, she sorta walked in on us" Sam told him. "Wha...? Oh! Well, that explains that then."
"Hmm. So, just keep it 'hush, hush' for now ok?" Sam continued for reassurance. "Oh yeah. Definitely. Secret's safe with me. Bye."
"Bye Daniel."
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~
Weeks went by, and still no one knew. Only Daniel and Ashley. And they kept their mouths shut, thankfully for Jack and Sam. A few more weeks, and they got married. Secretly. Only Daniel, Teal'c and Ashley knew. Only one day, before a routine mission, something wasn't quite in 'routine'. "SG1, where is Major Carter?" Hammond called over the PA. "I don't know sir. I'll see if I can find her." Jack started to walk towards the doors on the Gate Room, until they opened and he stopped. Sam came running through. "Finally. We're late Sam" Jack told her. "Jack!" she shouted. "What? What's wrong?"
"I'm pregnant."
