Daniel almost fell over the MALP as he stepped through the Stargate. He pushed it out of the way as Samantha Carter and the rest of the team came through. Daniel adjusted his glasses and looked at the chamber the 'gate was situated in. "Wow."

O'Neill looked up. "'Wow'? All you can muster is a wow? I think the kid isn't phased by space travel any more."

"Well... it's just the symbols on this pillar." He brushed away the dust and said, "According to this, the Goa'uld have declared this world to be hostile and they claim they will never return."

O'Neill frowned. "What makes the Goa'uld stay away from a planet indefinitely?"

Teal'c responded, "A great many things could have caused this, O'Neill. Perhaps it contains a device not unlike the one we encountered on P3X-974."

O'Neill thought, then said, "You'll have to be more specific."

"The world on which we encountered Thor's Hammer as well as Thor's Chariot."

"Oh. Great," O'Neill sighed. "I was wanting to go through that again..."

Suddenly, a bright light filled the chamber. It slowly moved across the floor to stand over Daniel for a moment, then moved to Jack then Sam, then Teal'c. When it had finished scanning them, it returned to Sam. She gazed up at the ceiling, searching for a source and finding none.

Jack kept his gun trained on the area of the ceiling it seemed to be coming from. "What's it doing, Carter?"

"I think... it's learning, sir."

"Like that, uh... thing that took over the SGC a few months back?"

"Not exactly... but close."

"Then you'll understand if I'm not thrilled that it's hanging around you."

Daniel stepped forward. "It makes sense that it's staying on Sam... She's different."

"How so?"

"Well, uh... in the simplest way, Jack. She's a woman and we're all men. It's fascinated. Maybe it's never seen a woman before."

"What a boring life this race must lead..." The light suddenly vanished and the room was once again dark. Jack waited for something to happen, then shrugged. "Well... should we examine the rest of this wonderful world?"

Daniel nodded, "I was just about to suggest that."

With that, SG-1 turned their flashlights on and headed into the lone corridor that led out of the gateroom. The corridor eventually branched off into two separate halls. He said, "Back here in twenty," as he motioned for Teal'c and Daniel to take one and he headed down the other with Sam.

As they walked, she whispered, "Sir... do you have a bad feeling about this?"

"I have a bad feeling everytime I step through the 'gate, Major."

"Not that feeling... a different feeling."

He thought for a moment, then said, "No."

"Just checking, sir."

They continued on until the corridor once again branched in two. Jack reluctantly motioned for her to take one and he went down the other. Sam nodded and watched for his flashlight beam to disappear before she headed down her own corridor.

As she walked, she got a sinking feeling that her flashlight was failing. *Get ahold of yourself, Major. That's just nerves talking*, she chastised herself. She continued on. She was about to turn back when she hit a wall. She stumbled a bit, then shined her light on what she had hit. It seemed to be a large cartouche of a man standing over an altar. Around him were numerous warriors, all bloody-faced and obviously dead.

"This must be the temple of a great warrior," she muttered.

*See-mun-taaaa...*

She spun around, pulling her weapon from it's holster. "Who's there? Show yourself!"

The voice sounded as if it had come from right next to her.... She swore she could still feel the warm breath on her ear. She shivered and checked her watch. It was close to the rendevouz time. Exhaling, she headed down the corridor to meet up with her team mates and get the hell out of this creepy temple.

Daniel and Teal'c were waiting in the large hall when she arrived. "Where's Colonel O'Neill?"

"We assumed he was with you, Major Carter," Teal'c said.

"The corridor branched off... we had to split up."

"He has not returned."

Sam drew her weapon once more and led the way down the corridor that Jack had gone down earlier. They reached the end approximately where Sam's corridor had, only this one had one major difference: A large golden room where Jack was standing, his back to them. He was captured in a beam of light, his boots barely in contact with the ground. Sam called, "Sir! Sir, are you all right?"

Teal'c raised his staff and fired once, hitting the area of the ceiling where the beam was originating. The light cut off and O'Neill dropped to the floor. The team ran forward and pulled their CO out of the center of the room, watching for any kind of attack. Once in the corridor, Jack began moaning quietly. He finally managed to ask, "Where'd you guys come from?"

As they carried Jack through the corridors back to the 'gate, a strong wind began to blow against them, as if it were holding them back. Teal'c covered the area in front of them with his zat gun, aiming at targets that even he couldn't see. When they finally returned to the Gate Room, Teal'c released his hold on Jack to dial the Earth gate. Daniel punched in the GDO code.

The Stargate roared to life and Sam balanced O'Neill on her shoulder, motioning for the others to go through first. Daniel went through the horizon, followed by Teal'c. She turned to Jack and asked, "Can you go through on your own, sir?"

He nodded weakly and stood. He lunged for the Stargate, passing through the horizon and sliding back to Earth in the wormhole. Sam started to run for the Gate, but it shut off just before she hit it. She turned and went back to the DHD. The voice hissed, *Suu-munn-thuuu... Coo-ruhh-torrr.* She turned, looking for who was speaking.

"Who's there? How do you know my name?"

*Doo not... leave... You are... mine...*

Sam turned and finished punching in the sequence for Earth. The Stargate roared to life again and she ran forward. As she passed through the event horizon, a beam of light shot down from the ceiling and went through right behind her.

---

As the Stargate engaged again, Hammond turned and said, "Close the ir--"

"General, stop... with all due respect, it may be Sam,"

Hammond thought, then said, "Leave it open. I hope you're right, Dr. Jackson."

Teal'c raised his staff weapon and aimed it at the active 'gate. The military personel in the room did the same. The horizon was distrupted and Major Carter stumbled out, landing on the ramp and rolling down it to the concrete. She stood, coughing, and said, "Hello, sir... Thank you for leaving the iris open."

"You can thank Dr. Jackson, Major. Are you all right?"

"I'm fine, sir."

The Stargate disengaged and the room fell deathly quiet. Hammond broke the silence, "All right, I want all of SG-1 to report to the infirmary immediately."

"Sir... where's Colonel O'Neill?"

"He was already taken, Major. Dr. Fraiser believes he'll be fine. In light of his condition, you'll be delivering the briefing."

"Yes, sir."

"Dismissed."

Sam sighed and headed for the door. Teal'c followed and turned, noting that Daniel wasn't following. "Daniel Jackson. Are you feeling ill?"

Daniel looked up, his brow furrowed. "Huh? Oh... no, I'm fine. Just fine."

Unseen by anyone in the room, Daniel's entire body was encased by the light that had followed Sam through the Stargate. It clung to him like a second skin, then slowly seeped inside through his ears, nose, mouth and eyes. He blinked, shook his head, and followed Teal'c to the infirmary.

----

Janet Fraiser checked Colonel O'Neill's pulse, then turned to Hammond. "I can't explain it, sir. It seems that at some point on the planet his heart stopped completely for at least two minutes."

Hammond quietly responded, "SG-1 didn't mention this in their briefing... Could they have been compromised?"

"If you're questioning whether we have another 'foothold' situation... I doubt it. I checked them all out myself. Other than a slight chemical imbalance in Daniel, everything is fine."

"Chemical imbalance?"

"It's nothing major, Sir. I assume it was caused by the 'gates high altitude on the alien planet. Daniel had an adverse reaction to the sudden change in temperature. It should return to normal levels within a few hours."

"Very good. And Colonel O'Neill..."

"Will wake up soon. He'll be fine, but probably a little grouchy."

"I'm used to it," Hammond smiled.

---

Daniel rubbed the bridge of his nose, looking over the symbols he'd photographed while in the temple. He still didn't understand why the Goa'uld would be frightened of the world, unless the beam of light that was holding Jack had been a kind of Thor's Hammer...

*You must kill Colonel Jack O'Neill.*

Daniel looked up. The lab was empty. "Hello?" He stood, searching for whoever had spoken. "Is someone in here?"

*I am within you, Dr. Daniel Jackson. I control and command you. I command you to kill Colonel Jack O'Neill.*

"Jack is my friend. I'm not going to kill him. So... whatever you are, just get out of my head."

*But she is mine.*

"Who is?"

*Samantha.*

"Sam? How is she yours?"

*I need her. She is to become my mate.*

"I... really think that's her decision."

*You are unwilling to comply with my commands?*

"Uh... yeah, I am." Sudden pain shot through the base of Daniel's skull, causing him to cringe and fall to the floor behind his desk. It felt as if a red-hot spike was being driven into his skull an inch at a time.

*You will do as I wish now?*

"N... no..." The pain increased and Daniel fell. His scream died in his throat. He hit the floor, his arms and legs twitching in pain. And then... all was still. Daniel slowly stood and held his arms out in front of him, examining them as if he had never seen them before. A smile crept across his lips and he muttered, "Opposable thumbs... how amazing..."

He picked up his glasses off the table and inspected them. He quickly gave up and put them back down. He then picked up a revolved. "Humans seem to fear these weapons," he reasoned and stuck the gun in the waistband of his pants, covering it with his shirt. He then walked out of his lab and headed for the infirmary.

Halfway to the lab, he paused. Why kill his opponent when he could just steal the object of his affection away? He spun on his heel, grabbing an airman he had just passed. "Do you know the position of Major Samantha Carter?"

"Uh... yeah, I think I just saw her heading for the lockers."

Daniel appeared confused as the creature scanned his mind. It finally found the definition of the word 'locker' as well as the directions. He smiled at the airman and said, "Thank you." He turned and headed for the room at the other end of the SGC.

---

Teal'c sat on the edge of the bed, his hands neatly folded in his lap. General Hammond said, "I need to know if anything was left out of the briefing, son. Did anything happen to Colonel O'Neill that might have caused him bodily harm?"

"I do not believe so, General Hammond."

"Why don't you tell me exactly what happened on the planet?"

"Upon arriving, we were scanned by a brilliant beam of light. No one displayed signs of illness so the beam was considered a probe and we continued into the facility. The corridor separated and O'Neill split us up. Major Carter went with O'Neill, I with Daniel Jackson."

Hammond frowned. "Could something have happened then?"

"I do not know, General Hammond. I was not with Colonel O'Neill at the time. I suspect that had anything happened to him it would also have happened to Major Carter."

The General stood and said, "I see." He turned to a nearby airman and said, "Find me Major Carter immediately, please."

---

Sam closed her locker door and turned to see Daniel standing in the doorway. She pulled her robe closed and said, "Oh... Sorry, Daniel. I thought I had turned the arrow on the door..."

Daniel frowned, as if Sam were speaking another language, and said, "The arrow was pointing to the north."

Sam nodded, "Ah... so... I did turn the arrow..."

Daniel stepped forward. "The arrow is irrelevant, Major Samantha. I have come to discuss a matter of great importance with you."

Sam took a step back. Something was definitely wrong with Daniel. "What's, uh... what's so important that it can't wait until we're both dressed?"

"You belong to me."

"What?"

"If you do not agree to be mine, I will be forced to terminate the life of the one referred to as Colonel Jack."

Sam hit the wall and began searching for another exit. Daniel grabbed her shoulders and said, "Stop, Major Samantha. You belong to me."

Sam tried to pull away from Daniel's grasp, but he was amazingly strong. She raised her knee, hitting him square in the groin, but he didn't even flinch. Holding her against the wall with one hand, he moved the other to her breast and felt it through the material of her robe. "It has been long since I have felt a woman..."

Sam screamed. Daniel raised his hand and covered her mouth. He held her against the wall with that hand and pulled his shirt off with the other. He balled the shirt up and stuffed it into her mouth. He then pulled the robe off her shoulders and began kissing his way down her neck. Sam clawed at him, feeling the skin break beneath her fingernails but feeling no effect from Daniel. Soon the robe was on the floor and she was naked, defenseless before him. She sobbed, her cries for help unheard around the shirt in her mouth.

Daniel slid his hand down to his pants and began to undo the fly. He ran his hands roughly over her body, feeling her skin and moaning low in his throat.

And suddenly, Sam's chest was covered with blood. Daniel froze and began to slowly turn. It took Sam a moment to realize that the blood wasn't hers; a ragged hole hand been torn in Daniel's right shoulder. An airman standing in the doorway stepped forward, his gun still smoking, and landed a punch across Daniel's jaw that would've dropped an elephant.

Daniel stood his ground. He lifted the airman with his bad arm and hurled him across the room, knocking over a row of lockers. Frustrated with the interruption, he turned to finish the job... only to find another gun aimed at him. Sam fired once, hitting Daniel in the upper left leg. He stumbled, falling to his knees. Sam was about to fire once more when he fell face down on the bloody tiles of the locker room. Sam pulled her robe on just as the guards rushed in.

She was crying so hard she couldn't answer their questions.

General Hammond eyed the unconscious archaeologist as he asked, "What is Dr. Jackson's condition?"

Janet looked at the chart and said, "He'll be just fine, sir. He might walk with a limp for a while but... it'll serve him right."

"That's enough, Dr. Fraiser... I know how much Major Carter means to you... hell, she means a lot to everyone. But I cannot believe that Daniel Jackson could do something this atrocious. There has to be some other factor."

"I'm sorry, sir. I'm just angry."

"Understood. How is Major Carter?"

"A little shaken... she's a little too shocked to talk about it right now. But I have a bad feeling that whatever happened to Daniel might be connected to Colonel O'Neill's heart problem."

Hammond nodded. "Keep me informed, Dr. Fraiser." He cast another look in Daniel's direction before leaving the infirmary.

___

Colonel O'Neill, for the first time in a long time, was quiet for an entire hour while he waited for someone to come check on him. When he had first come to, he had managed to pull hims head off the pillow and check the situation out. The first thing he saw was Daniel to his left, laying on a bloody sheet and covered with bloody bandages. Across the infirmary, he saw Janet lead Sam into a private room and pull a curtain. Sam was dressed in a robe and was hanging her head. Something had happened to SG-1... and O'Neill had a horrible feeling that it wasn't over.

Finally, an orderly realized that the patient was awake and ran off to notify Dr. Fraiser. Jack kept quiet and laid his head on the pillow while he waited for Janet to arrive.

She finally showed up next to his bed, checking his pulse and vital signs. She finally asked, "Jack? Are you all right?"

He nodded weakly and finally managed to croak, "I'm okay... Wha' happened to the team?"

Janet paused, suddenly enthralled by the blanket covering Jack. She finally said, "We're not sure. Something happened on the planet but we don't know. Daniel... Dr. Jackson attacked Sam. He tried to rape her in the locker room."

Jack sat up. "What?!" The sudden motion and force of his question caused him to go into a coughing fit.

Janet waited for him to return to normal and continued. "According to scans, Daniel was suffering from some kind of chemical imbalance after returning from the planet. After the attack, we scanned him again and the imbalance was gone."

"You think it had somethin' to do with the planet?"

"We need to know what happened, Colonel. Teal'c said you and Sam went down a corridor alone and that everything else was routine."

"Light..."

Janet's brow creased. "Like the one you were addicted to in the Goa'uld palace?"

O'Neill shook his head. "No... I-It grabbed me... in a beam... talked to me..."

"Talked to you? Do you remember what it said?"

"She... belongs... to... me..."

"Who belongs to you?"

"Not me," Jack coughed. "It said... 'she belongs... to me...' That's all I r-remember."

Janet placed her hand on Jack's chest and said, "Just take your time, Jack. Get some rest, okay?"

Airman First Class Robert Whaley reloaded his gun and trembled at the thought of what he had just done. I shot a man, he thought. I shot a man... He had never fired his gun while on duty, let alone shot an actual person. So much blood...

The gun was loaded again and he holstered the weapon. As he closed his locker, he heard a quiet voice saying, *She belongs to me.*

Whaley turned. "Mazur? Is that you?"

*SHE belongs to ME.*

"Mazur, you son of... This isn't the time for jokes." He turned the corner and peered down the row of lockers. Mazur wasn't at his locker. Whaley moved down to the farther end of the room and looked there. No one was lurking in the shadows there, either. Whaley sighed and adjusted the cuffs of his sleeves. As he headed for the door, the voice came again.

*He is unworthy of her attention. You must kill him.*

Whaley turned. "You asshole. This is the absolute worst time for you to be playing your dumbass game."

*Kill Jack O'Neill.*

"The Colonel?" He pulled his gun. "Mazur, you know that I can't let you get away with threatening an officer. Not even as a joke."

*Get it through your skull. I am not Mazur.*

"Then who the hell are you?!"

*I am the being who has taken control of your body.*

Whaley trembled. "Show yourself!"

*These humans are so thick-headed.*

Whaley hit the floor as pain shot through his skull. He felt as if a red-hot poker had been jammed into his eye. The pain was unbearable. Whaley raised his gun and, with his arm trembling, placed the barrel against his temple.

*You will do my bidding.*

"I will... send you... to Hell..."

Airman First Class Robert Whaley pulled the trigger and his body slumped to the floor of the locker room.

---

General Hammond stood over the body of Robert Whaley, his hands balled into fists. "I want to know why this happened, how this happened and if it has anything do to with SG-1."

The medic nodded and pushed the gurney away. Hammond looked at the pool of blood on the floor in front of him and sighed. Daniel tried to rape Sam, O'Neill's heart had stopped, and now an airman was dead by his own hand. Hammond turned to Sergeant Michael Beckett and said, under his breath, "We may have another foothold situation."

Beckett's eyes widened momentarily.

"Notify the Pentagon and tell them no one in or out of this facility until further notice."

Beckett nodded and rushed off to comply.

It waited patiently for someone else to enter the room and immediately latched onto that person. It was a bald man named George. It sensed the power in this host, but immediately discounted it as a vessel. It remained attached to George until a second man came within range. It immediately shifted to this man, a human named Michael. It sensed the power of this one, as well as it's ability to complete the mission.

It remained attached to Michael as he exchanged conversation with the one known as George. Then Michael left the room and walked down an unfamiliar hallway. As Michael walked, the being became aware of several things; heightened heart rate, increased stress levels. Something had been said that rendered this host unsuitable. As Michael moved on, so did the being. It attached itself to the first person Michael passed.

This one was different. His emotions were kept buried, deep within him. His strength was extremely formidable and the being knew immediately this was the vessel to complete the mission. It attached itself to this being's mind, staying on the peripheral until the time came to reveal it's presence. It began to familiarize itself with the new host.

The host's name was Teal'c.

SG-5 and 8 stood in the Gate room, ready to embark to the world SG-1 had recently returned from. The only difference here was Colonel Dillon, who had been forced to live through countless 'Gunsmoke' jokes through his entire school life, and his team were equipped with heavy surveillance equipment which was capped off by a small video camera poised on the side of their heads. On the other side, there was a small vitals monitor that would keep track of their chemical balance.

Hammond stood at the bottom of the ramp and said, "I'm not going to lie to you, Colonel Dillon. This is an extremely dangerous mission."

"Sir, we have to determine whether it is an actual presence or a result of something SG-1 acquired while on the planet. This is important to national security and I'm proud to be of service, sir."

That was another reason he was teased about 'Gunsmoke'; Colonel Dillon was an official American cowboy.

"Chevron Seven Locked," called Sergeant Walter Davis said over the PA system. The Stargate roared to life, spewing forth a large bubble of energy before folding in on itself and forming a flat, shimmering pool in the center of the 'gate.

Hammond nodded and said, "Godspeed, son."

---

The other side of the 'gate was humid and the room felt like it was 200 degrees. Dillon wiped his brow, surprised to find a sheen of sweat already formed. "All right, let's check this place out and go home. Damn... I can't believe SG-1 didn't mention how hot is was here."

Behind him, Colonel Grazer said, "They had other things on their mind, Frank."

"But... when I saw them, they didn't seem to be sweat-covered... Hell, I'm sweat-covered all ready."

Grazer sighed, "Maybe the aliens turned off the a/c. Let's just check this place out like we were ordered to."

They stepped into the main room, weapons drawn. Dillon entered the corridor and dropped to his knees. "God... I'm burning up..."

Colonel Grazer growled, "Suck it up, Dillon. We've got a mission." He secretly wondered how someone like Dillon had become a Colonel. The last member of SG-8 stepped through the 'gate and the wormhole deactived, plunging the room into total blackness. Grazer heard Dillon exclaim at the sudden darkness and cursed quietly to himself as he flipped on his flashlight. "Dillon! Will you be able to handle this? Because if you can't, I will dial home right now and hurl you through that 'gate so fast...."

Grazer stopped when he realized Dillon was moving. He could hear the man's uniform rustling and aimed his flashlight down the corridor where Dillon had collapsed. He lit the area just in time to see Dillon's boot disappear. "Dillon! Get your ass back here!"

Dillon didn't respond. Grazer grit his teeth and said, "How 'bout when I throw him through the 'gate, one of us forgets to open the iris." He headed down the corridor after the fast disappearing footfalls of Dillon.

Major Preston raised his mic to his lips and said, "General Hammond... Colonel Dillon just took off down the corridor. Colonel Grazer went after him."

Hammond's voice came back, "Do not let them out of your sight... that is a very dangerous world."

Preston lowered his radio and headed down the corridor after his two commanding officers. After a few minutes, he slowed, getting a bad feeling about this world. He came to a stop and shone his flashlight ahead. Nothing but darkness. He shined it down... and gasped. Approximately three feet in front of where he had stopped was a massive pool of blood. He continued on, slowly. After several steps, he found a mangled hand. The face was a total loss, but he read the nametag: Grazer. "Oh, God, General Hammond..."

"What is it, son?"

"So much blood... Oh, God, sir how could there be so much blood in one person?"

The radio was ripped from his hands and hurled against the wall. It shattered into a million pieces. Preston brought his gun up and said, "Colonel Dillon, step into the light! Throw down your weapons or I'll shoot!"

Dillon slowly stepped into the beam of Preston's flashlight. He held his hand up, revealing a grenade without a pin. Dillon's middle finger was holding the detonator down, keeping the grenade safe. Preston swallowed. "Where's the pin?"

"I don't know... But we're all gonna die here."

"No. No, we're not, Dillon. Just hand me the grenade, we'll talk this over... no one has to die here today."

Dillon roared, "The master will return... the master will be angry that you have destroyed his palace..."

"Who is the master?"

Dillon dropped the grenade. Preston lowered his gun, lurching forward to catch the explosive. He closed his fingers around it as it detonated.

----

The medic looked up at General Hammond. "Sir... all the signals just cut off."

The final message from Preston rang through Hammond's head. 'Oh, God, sir... how could there be so much blood in one person?' He swallowed and said, "Send a MALP through."

The chevrons were all locked in place and the Stargate came to life. There was a long pause, accompanied by static from a dozen dead radios, when suddenly, a form came through the Stargate. His body was blackened by fire, his right side entirely gone, and he was trailing blood behind him as he walked. Even through the burns and blood, Hammond recognized the man as Colonel Dillon.

Hammond reached for the microphone to speak to him, but Dillon raised his gun and opened fire on the control room's window. They all ducked below the counter as MPs opened fire on the colonel. His body twitched with each shot, but didn't fall. Finally, one bullet hit him in his whithered throat and decapitated him. Dillon's body fell to the floor, twitching even in death.

Hammond stood. "I want to know what the hell is on that world and I want it stopped right now..."

---

Janet looked up as Jack O'Neill walked into her office. She stood and immediately berated him, "You should be in bed."

"I know what the creature is... I know what it wants..."

---

Hammond stormed into the infirmary, trailed by Teal'c. "Did I hear you correctly, Dr. Fraiser?"

"He believes he can stop the creature."

O'Neill nodded, "It spoke to me... right before it tried to kill me. It said that it wanted to know everything about us and... and specifically Major Carter. I refused to answer, but it grabbed me in that damn beam and invaded my mind. It... it knows everything about me, about the SGC, about Carter... It's here, sir."

"How can you be sure?"

"I know. I know that thing as well as it knows me... It wouldn't let Carter go that easily."

Teal'c asked, "How can we stop it?"

Jack glanced at Hammond and said, "I know... but you won't like it, sir."

Hammond frowned. "Go ahead."

"The creature believes that I am Carter's soul mate. That I am destined to be with her. It thinks if it kills me, it will be free to have her for itself. It scanned my mind, sir... it knows all about what happened in the locker room, all about the Za'tarc fiasco... Sir, I have a way to stop it but I'll need you to ignore a lot."

"Colonel... you're asking me to blatantly go against the..."

"An airman is dead, General. From what Doc Fraiser tells me, we have two crispy SG teams on that planet that have died because of this thing. Daniel is lying over there fading in and out and Sam was almost raped, sir. The only thing I'm going to do is stop this thing."

Hammond said, "Do whatever you have to, Colonel. Just don't tell me about it."

"Thank you, sir."

As Hammond turned to leave, Teal'c said, "Colonel O'Neill, may I speak with you in private for a moment?"

"Sure thing, Teal'c."

Jack painfully stood and followed his Jaffa friend into a private room. Teal'c turned... and O'Neill's mind went blank.

---

It successfully left the powerful Jaffa and went into the slightly weaker human. It tested it's body, feeling for any pain or discomfort. There was none. Teal'c was looking at Jack strangely, then said, "I seem to have forgotten why I needed to speak with you."

The creature, in Jack's voice, said, "It's all right, Teal'c. Just, uh... if you remember, come find me."

He smiled and turned, leaving Teal'c to ponder his forgetfulness.

The answer had been so simple the entire time; instead of killing the rival, become the rival. The creature led O'Neill out of the infirmary and headed for Major Carter's quarters. As they neared the room, the creature retreated to allow O'Neill to speak; it would be easier for the real man to convince her of his plan...

----

Jack sat on the edge of the bed and faced Sam. "Are you okay? Can you talk?"

She nodded. "Is something wrong?"

"No, not a thing. I just have a plan to keep you safe from whatever it is that's after you."

"You mean Daniel?"

"You know it wasn't Daniel that attacked you in the lockers. Something from the planet latched onto him. He would never hurt you."

"Okay... I know. I'm just a little..."

"I want to take you up to Jacob's cabin. You'll be safe there."

"Who knows we're going?"

"No one. Just me. As long as no one on the base can find you, you'll be perfectly safe."

"How do you know? Maybe we should tell General Hammond."

"No, Sam. This thing can get into Hammond as easily as it got into Daniel. We have to go now if we're going to go."

Sam chewed on her bottom lip and finally said, "Okay. Let me grab my jacket."

Jack handed her the leather jacket off the chair and followed her out the door.

---

As they pulled up in front of Jacob Carter's rustic cabin, the setting sun was shimmering off the surface of the lake next to it. The jeep pulled past the trees that lined the driveway and finally stopped a few feet from the deck. Sam climbed out, pulling her jacket around her body. The cool wind that was blowing off the lake had made the air colder than usual and the higher altitude didn't help matters much either.

Sam shivered. "Maybe we should call General Hammond... just to tell him we're okay."

"Sam, I would love to call the General and Teal'c and Daniel, even Dr. Fraiser. But each one of them could be compromised."

She nodded and headed up the stairs of the deck. She pulled the sliding door open and walked into the warm interior of the house. "God, this place is great..." The furniture was covered by dropcloths and no decorations were on the walls. The Carters had barely used the cabin since Sam was fifteen. Since the summer that she and Joey Solomon had... well, had almost... She smiled at the memory.

Jack closed the door behind him and locked it. He turned to Sam and grinned. "Well... we're safe now."

Janet sighed and sent the final airman away. She picked up the phone on the wall and was immediately connected to General Hammond's office. "Sir, you can raise the quarantine. No one on base has the chemical imbalance. It appears to have simply vanished."

"Is that possible?"

"Not in my opinion."

"Are you sure that every member on base has been examined?"

"Yes, sir. Including yourself." She turned and saw Teal'c standing in the doorway of the infirmary. She paused. "Wait a second..." She covered the mouthpiece and called, "Teal'c... where did Colonel O'Neill go?"

"I believe he went to Major Carter's quarters."

Janet removed her hand. "Sir... I have a bad feeling about this. I'll call you back." She disconnected and pulled a walkie-talkie off a nearby table. "I need to talk to the guards who are protecting Major Carter."

"Yes, ma'am," came the immediate response.

"Is she still there?"

"No, ma'am. She left with Colonel O'Neill over an hour ago."

"Why didn't you call the General?"

"Colonel O'Neill expressly told me to keep it quiet."

Janet cursed and picked up the phone. "General... the being is in Colonel O'Neill. And he's got Sam with him."

Jack threw a small piece of firewood into the fireplace and sat down in front of it. Sam lay on the couch covered with a heavy comforter. Jack sighed and toyed with his bootlace. "You know... we're kind of like outlaws."

Sam smiled. "Yeah..."

Sam's bare foot was sticking out from beneath the comforter and Jack took it, softly rubbing the toes. Sam closed her eyes and laid her head on the arm of the couch. "Sam... I have feelings for you..."

"I know... The Za'tarc tests..."

"Yeah. Look, I just wanted to say... we're in trouble already as it is. This could be our only chance to... act on the feelings we both have."

"Are you suggesting that we..."

"Samantha... I care for you. Deeply. This wouldn't just be a quick... fling in the dead of the night. It would be declaring our love for each other. I love you, Samantha Carter... and I know you love me too. What's wrong with two consenting adults declaring their love for each other? After this, we can go back to simply Major Carter and Colonel O'Neill."

Sam pulled her foot away from Jack and stood. "I... think I should go take a shower."

Jack leaned back against the couch. "That would... probably be best." As Sam walked into the other room, Jack felt a painful tingling at the back of his neck. He shook his head and decided to ignore it. What he couldn't ignore was what he had just done to his relationship with Sam.

What had he been thinking?!

---

Later that night, Jack was still in front of the fire when Sam got out of the shower. He looked up as she exited the bathroom, her hair still wet and dripping. She was wrapped in a towel and looking nervously at him. He stood, trying not to stare at her legs... her beautiful arms... he dismissed that train of thought and said, "Uh... is something wrong?"

Sam stepped forward and whispered, "No talking, Jack."

She kissed his lips, softly at first, as if exploring the new territory. Jack was stunned for a moment, not knowing exactly what to do with his hands. Finally, he rested them on her back, pulling her against him and returning her kiss with the same fire she gave to him. She parted her lips, rolling her tongue across his mouth and forcing it's way in. Jack eagerly returned the gesture, his hands roaming her back. He finally undid the towel and let it drop to the floor.

He stepped back admiring her gorgeous body for the first time. Her skin was still moist from the shower and small droplets had formed on her shoulders and breasts. Jack bent down, taking a rosy nipple in his mouth and lightly flicking it with his tongue. Sam's hands went to Jack's hair, holding him to her chest. When he finally separated from her, she whispered, "Bed room."

Jack followed her, watching her nude buttocks as they led him through the moonlit hallway to the large master bedroom. Sam stood by the bed and turned, one arm instinctively going to cover her breasts. Jack moved the hand, kissing each finger before letting her arm rest at her side. He ran his eyes over her nude form again, making her blush at the constant attention. He huskily whispered, "My God... You're perfect."

Sam pulled him to her, devouring his lips as she worked at the buttons on his shirt. He assisted her in the task and pulled the material away, accidentally pulling off a button they had both managed to miss. Sam's lips immediately moved to his chest, roaming his muscular form as her fingers worked at the snap of his jeans. As she kissed her way down his torso, they shifted so that Jack was against the bed. When Sam reached the waistband of his pants, she pulled back, pushing him down onto the mattress.

Standing over him, she slowly slid the denim down, pulling his boxers with it. His erection was sprung free, standing at attention before her. Sam paused, shocked by the sight of her commanding officer's nudity for the first time. She looked at his lust-filled eyes and said, "Sir, maybe we should..."

"Call me Jack," he said, pulling her lips to his. He pulled her up onto the bed and she straddled his waist. She could feel his erection pressing against her, begging for entry, and she had waited too long for this to be too much of a tease. She raised herself a bit and reached down, grasping his penis and stroking it slightly before placing the tip against her nether lips. Jack stared up at her as she slowly slid down his length, letting him fill her.

When she reached the base and he was fully inside of her, they both lay still for a moment, frozen in time. Their eyes were locked. Sam immediately knew that any hope of them returning to their past relationship had just been hopelessly destroyed. Tears filled her eyes and she said, "God... Jack... We shouldn't be doing this..."

"I want you, Sam... I want to do this with you. Not just part of the way. All of it."

"But, Jack, we're not..."

He kissed her, cutting off whatever protest she might have offered. Sam groaned into his mouth and began to fall back into the mood. She slowly began to rock her hips against his, stroking his erection with her vaginal muscles. As they kissed, Jack slid his hand down to her breasts and lightly flicked the nipples with his thumb. Jack broke the kiss and said, "I want to taste all of you... Everything..."

He rolled over so that Sam was beneath him and slowly withdrew himself from her silky depths. Sam protested at the separation, but Jack quickly replaced his hand between her legs. She bent her knees, spreading them to give Jack more room to work. He bent his head down and inhaled her scent, memorizing it... and then flicked his tongue across her clitoris.

Sam moaned, clutching the blankets and throwing her head back against the pillows as Jack's tongue teased her, probing just enough that she knew it was still there. She moaned, "Jack... please..."

He looked up at her and began to move up her body, kissing the curve of her stomach, sliding his tongue across her navel, tenderly kissing her erect nipples, then tracing a line up her throat. He kissed the tip of her nose before once again claiming her lips. He arranged himself between her legs, guiding himself into her. Sam moaned as he began to rock his hips with slow, even strokes.

Her hand clutched his hard ass, pulling him deeper into her. She released his lips and laid her head on his shoulder, panting his name over and over. She felt Jack's lips against her ear and he whispered, "I'm close, Samantha..." He kissed her earlobe and clutched her shoulders. He came inside of her, filling her with his seed. Sam groaned at lightly bit Jack's shoulder as he climaxed, her own coming right after it.

When they both had finished, they stayed still for a moment, trying to catch their breath. Jack was the first to move, sliding himself out of her and laying her on the bed. He curled up next to her, in the spoon position, and squeezed her shoulder. "That was..."

"Wonderful," she finished. She smiled and looked out the window at the glimmering lake they had driven by only a few hours earlier.

Teal'c noted the cabin on the other side of the lake. "I believe that to be Jacob Carter's cabin, is it not?"

"Sure is, Teal'c," Daniel replied, pulling the car around the bend in the road. "That's why we're here... and look at what's parked in the driveway. Daniel parked the car, pulling out his cell phone. He dialed the SGC's private number. "Get me General Hammond. This is Dr. Jackson."

After a moment, Hammond's voice came over the line, "Did you find them?"

"They're at Jacob Carter's cabin, just off Route 9. Should we approach?"

"Negative. The being could overpower or even take over you. God knows we'd be in trouble if it got into Teal'c."

"All right, so... we just sit here and wait?"

"A team will be there shortly. Keep an eye on the situation."

---

Sam frowned. "Jack, we... we didn't..."

"Use protection?"

She nodded.

"It's okay, Sam." He kissed her shoulder and said, "If it becomes an issue... I'll be the one to take the fall."

"We'll both take the fall, Jack."

Jack turned her around so that he could look into her eyes. "We don't have to. Sam... I would never let anything bad happen to you." He bent down and kissed her forehead. "You belong to me."

Sam smiled and rolled over on her side again, closing her eyes. She was moments from sleep when it hit her. *You belong to me.*

Sam's eyes flew open and she slid out of bed, pulling the blankets with her to cover her nudity. "Oh, God... it's... you..."

Jack sat up, confused. "Me? What about me?"

Sam shook her head. "The being... the creature... It's in you."

"What?!"

*She is right, Colonel Jack O'Neill. I am within you and now you will be destroyed.*

"Oh, God... Sam, get out of here! It is in me..."

Sam grabbed Jack's shirt off the floor and ran from the bedroom. Jack followed immediately behind her and slammed the door, locking it for good measure. He fell to the floor, his head suddenly pounding.

*I will destroy you... I will become you, Colonel O'Neill and they will know me as you. They will not kill you for you are too valuable.*

"You're wrong about that... They wouldn't have to kill me." He crawled to the night stand and pulled his gun from the drawer. He'd stowed it there upon arriving, but he didn't know exactly why until this moment. He put the gun against his forehead. "Get out of my head."

---

"Daniel Jackson." Teal'c pointed.

They got out of the car and headed for the woman who had just flown out of the cabin. She slammed into Teal'c and fought him for a moment before realizing who he was. "Teal'c! Daniel? What are you doing here?"

"Where is O'Neill?" Teal'c asked.

"In there... the thing is in him!"

Daniel took Sam as Teal'c went up the stairs and through the opened door. A few seconds later, they heard the splintering of a door. He looked down at Sam and noticed the condition she was in. "Sam... did something..."

"No. Nothing happened..."

Daniel let the subject dropped and looked through the darkened door of the cabin. A few second passed... and then they heard a gunshot.

---

Teal'c examined the room as he entered. The smell of what had happened here was unmis-takable, but he decided that he would ignore it. Colonel O'Neill was standing in the center of the room, completely nude, with a gun to his head. "Don't come any closer, Teal'c! I'm going to have to kill this thing one way or another!"

The Jaffa stepped forward. "Allow him to come to me."

Jack turned. "What?"

"I am more powerful. I am strong. The being can live within me and have access to all the power he desires."

Jack pleaded, "No, Teal'c... we wouldn't be able to stop you... NO!"

Teal'c jerked as something cold wrapped around his mind. As soon as the hold was there, it was weakened by the symbiote. Teal'c looked at O'Neill and then said, "Shoot me, O'Neill. Make this body useless for the trip back to the SGC."

"It'll just come back to me, or Sam..."

"No... the symbiote is holding it at bay, O'Neill. Shoot me!"

Jack raised the gun and reluctantly pulled the trigger.

---

Teal'c's mind was working feverishly to balance his personality with that of the creature all the while holding it within him. The trip to the SGC was impossibly long; he knew that there was no way it could've taken so long, but it felt like a millenium had passed since he began the battle for his mind.

After an unknown period of time, Teal'c woke, unaware of passing out. Dr. Fraiser, Daniel, Jack and General Hammond were all crowded around the bed, looking at him. "What has happened?"

Janet smiled. "You did it, Teal'c. I was able to separate the chemical imbalance in your system and extract it. We put it into a lab rat and sent the rat through the Stargate to the planet where this whole mess started. It's locked out of our dialing computers."

Teal'c nodded then asked, "What of Major Carter?"

The mood sombered a bit. Jack softly said, "She's going to be fine... eventually."

EPILOGUE:_ _

Sam watched as the fishing line dipped into the water and hung there lazily.

Next to her, Jack O'Neill sat and chewed absently on a piece of grass. It had been four months since they had been to this cabin... Since their night together... Jack finally broke the silence. "Sam... we have to deal with this."

"I know."

"That thing was in me that night. But it wasn't in control of me. What we did Sam? What you and I... that was real. That was more real than anything I've done or felt over the past four years. I love you, Sam."

"I know, Jack. I love you, too."

"Then... then why the cold shoulder? Why all the ashamed looks in the hallways and the awkward missions? Why are you treating me like this?"

"Because I'm pregnant, Jack. I'm going to have your child."

Jack's body went numb.
