She swiped at the feather-light touch on her cheek in protest. She was enjoying the peacefulness of slumber. Drowsily she opened her eyes remembering where she was.

"Jack! ... You're awake!"

"Obviously," he drawled in amusement. "What are you doing here?"

"You were dying..." she trailed off, the thought sending a shiver down her spine.

"That doesn't answer my question exactly," he smiled wryly.

"There are so many things that I thought I needed to say." She hesitated. It was so much easier when he was in the depths of unconsciousness.

"But?"

"But there's only one."

"Mmm?"

"I love you."
