================================================================

I sit at my desk, amid reports and other paperwork that's been neglected for months, dreading the upcoming SGC Christmas party. Every year, General Hammond--and other SGC members--begin decorating the Control Room, Commissary, Gate Room and other smaller rooms. Daniel and Doc Fraiser seem to enjoy it every single year. Carter, well, I don't really know what Carter thinks or feels about the annual SGC party. Teal'c just asks questions. I look down at the mission report from P4C-988 and try to concentrate on it so that I can make the quick escape out of the complex and retreat to my house to sit alone in my own private hell. Christmases started to suck after Charlie's death before I went to Abydos the first time. I bet Sara has a hard time, too. I can't say I don't blame her. I know what she's going through. Even after Sara left me, I've hated Christmases. It just reminds me of Charlie too much. Looking back at the report, I sigh heavily and toss the report off to the side of my desk, just to be forgotten in the next few weeks. It'll come back to haunt me when the general asks for it. I lean back in
my chair and rub my hands vigorously over my face, trying to rub the sorrow of my other life out of the lines that plague my face. Worry lines, my mom used to call them. // God, am I that old? \\ I ask myself, laughing shortly. "Colonel?" An angel's voice asks. I don't have to
look up to know whose voice it is. "What is it, Carter?" I ask, sounding sharp even to my ears. At that, I wince and mentally kick myself in the ass. "Am I bothering you?" She asks hesitantly. I sit up and place my elbows on my desk and place my chin in my hands. "Come in. What's up?" I ask, welcoming my second-in-command into my office. "General Hammond wants to know if you're done with your report from the mission on P4C-988 yet." She informs me. // See, Jack. Told ya that was going to come back to haunt you. Told ya so! \\ My consciousness tells
me. "Not yet. I just set it aside for a minute. Can't seem to concentrate." I say, looking Carter in the eye. Blue, like the ocean. I wonder how blue they can get. "Oh. Well, do you need help?" She offers. "Thanks, but no, Carter. Unfortunately, I have to put the mission into my own words," I say. "But as I've said before, I'm a man of very few words." This rewards me with one of her rare smiles. I stare at her, wondering if there is anything else. I look at her from head to toe, just for kicks, and notice that she's got a sprig of holly leaves with its little red berries pinned to the high neck of her black T-shirt. Ever since we helped Thor with the Replicators, Carter's taken to wearing the black, long-sleeve turtleneck T-shirts. Boy, do they look flattering on her. Especially when she had the longer hair. I liked her hair like that. Gave it character. "Sir, you're starting to drool." Carter says with a laugh in her voice. I know she's kidding. "Sorry." I apologize quietly, mentally crossing my fingers as I say it. "What are your plans for Christmas, Sir?" Carter asks, making me think about what I had planned on. I can't remember what I had planned on now. Every year that I get asked that question by Carter, my plans always change. "Don't know. You?" I counter. She just looks at her boots and shrugs. I guess she didn't plan on Jacob not coming for a visit, being that he's helping set up the new Tok'ra base. "If we don't go off-world, I'll probably just sit at home, drink egg nog and watch "It's A Wonderful Life" for the umpteenth time in my mundane life." Carter announces. "Your life? Mundane? I think not!" I say sarcastically, rewarded with a slight giggle from her. "Probably better than what you and Daniel had planned on." Carter says. "What's Daniel's plan?" I ask, wondering if he'd be going back to Abydos for a few days. "He told me that he was going to stay on base and do more translations. Go figure." Carter says sadly. I know what she means. Going back to a place that holds no meaning anymore. I feel that way all year round, though. "Tell you what, Carter," I say, standing up and walking to my office door and close it. "If you don't do anything, I don't do anything and Daniel doesn't do anything, the three of us will go to O'Malley's for dinner. Deal?" "You sure you want to go back there after the last time we were there?" Carter asks, a grin touching her beautiful face. I try to hold back my own grin at the memory. "Sure, why not?" I say, the grin finally cracking my strong facade. Carter turns and faces me. She stares at me and then bows her head to shake it, causing her blonde locks to shift with each shake. Before she lifts her head back up to look at me, I place my right hand above her head, mistletoe in my hand and wait patiently for her to lift her haunting blue gems to my sad brown eyes. She lifts her head to look at me once more and I grin slightly, yet
mischievously. She suddenly looks up and laughs a short, defeated laugh. "Got ya!" I say cheerfully. Leaning in, I place my lips on hers, while her hands find the nape of my neck. I drop my hands to her hips, the mistletoe falling to the floor. I deepen the kiss by tracing my
tongue on her lips. I get no objection from her. Breaking apart for much needed air, I notice that Carter's eyes have turned to a dark blue. Almost like a dark denim. I knew her eyes could go darker if they wanted to. She rests her forearms on my shoulders at the junction to my neck. "Well, that was unexpected." She says huskily. I'm about to answer her when there came an insistent pounding on my office door. I sigh with aggravation and retreat out of Carter's arms to answer the door. When I open it, Daniel's on the other side wearing a Santa's hat with a bell attached to the white puff ball. "Jack, you and Sam have to come to the Gate Room.
Teal'c's putting reindeer on either side of the Stargate and trying to get General Hammond to sing 'Blue Christmas'." Daniel says, laughing and heading back to the Gate Room. Turning back to Carter, we look at each other and I grin as I head to my desk to remove the disposable camera from my desk drawer and run toward the Gate Room. When we get there, sure enough, there's Teal'c putting two reindeer each on either side of the 'gate and up in the Control Room, General Hammond is singing his heart out with the microphone in his hand. I take a picture of Teal'c, Daniel and Carter all in front of the Stargate with Dancer, Prancer, Dasher and Vixen on the sides of the 'gate. Then Siler tells me that he'll take a picture of all four of us in front of the 'gate. I sit on the second to last step on the ramp, Carter next to me with her arm entwined with mine, Daniel and Teal'c kneeling behind us. Then there's the flash. Picture perfect if you ask me.

THREE HOURS LATER SGC GATE ROOM

I watch as the SGC personnel mingle with everyone. I just stand by the food table, sipping on my fruit punch. I notice that Daniel is talking to good Ol' Doc Fraiser, Teal'c is talking to the general and Major Davis, who joined the party at the last minute. I see how everyone is enjoying the day and the party with happy hearts. At least for a few hours, they can think
about themselves instead of worrying about the Goa'ulds. I mean that threat will be there every
holiday season, but at least for today, for a few hours, that threat can be forgotten. Suddenly, my eyes are covered and I feel a warm breath on the back of my neck. I can smell her sweet perfume. Carter is the only one that I know of that wears a Jasmine and Melon perfume. It's subtle, without being in your face about it, if you know what I mean. "Look what I had developed and copies made of." Carter says, uncovering my eyes and showing me her prize. It's the picture that Siler had taken hours ago. How quick did she get that done? No matter, I
guess. "What did you do that for?" I ask, trying to sound annoyed that she stole my camera to get it developed so soon. "I shot off the rest of the film and took it into town. I thought we could go to my lab and do something special for Daniel and Teal'c." Carter said, pulling me by my hand towards her lab. When we get there, we work to make four framed pictures. She had the one picture of all four of us copied, enlarged and made to look good in the frames. When we finally got the three pictures framed and wrapped, we head back to the Gate Room and find Daniel and Teal'c. "Daniel," Carter says, announcing our arrival over the sound of loud Christmas music. "The colonel and I made these for you and Teal'c. We know it's not much, but it's the thought that counts. Merry Christmas, Daniel and Teal'c." Daniel unwrapped his gift and I suddenly see tears in the man's eyes. Now, I've known Daniel for some time, okay a long time, but I've never seen him cry openly. Except for the one time when he was coming down off the sarcophagus high. He first hugged Carter and then me, taking me by surprise. // Well, that was unexpected. \\ I think to myself. "Sam," Daniel whispered. "This is more than anyone could ask for. It means a lot to me. Thank you, both of you." "My thanks as well, Major Carter, Colonel O'Neill." Teal'c replied stoically. I nod to Teal'c and then hand General Hammond the
one that is in my hands. He accepts it and tells us that he'll put it in his office. I nod to the general and then excuse myself. I walk to the locker room, open my locker and remove a picture of Charlie and Sara. I sit on the bench in front of my locker and stare at the picture in my hands. "Merry Christmas, Charlie." I whisper, a tear falling down my face. I brush it away quickly, even though there's no one else in the locker room. I close my eyes and try to bring up the image of Charlie's last Christmas, but the image alludes me for a minute. "Colonel?" A soft whisper asks. I look up and there's Carter in her midnight blue dress, looking all the angel that I know she is, concern on her face. I wonder when she changed from her fatigues to the dress, but I don't care. She looks fantastic. "I'm fine, Carter. Just wishing my son a Merry Christmas." I tell her, feeling rather than seeing her sit next to me. "I just thought you could use some company." She says softly, putting a hand on my shoulder. I look at her and then I look up, taken for a fool. She is holding mistletoe over my head. I shake my head at letting my guard down. "I should have seen that coming." I curse myself. She grins and then leans in and kisses me, her tongue tracing the line of my lips. God, I love how she gets even. I should do that more often. I feel both of her hands on my face and I sit so I can face her and pull her to me. I break the kiss, causing Carter to whimper. I look at her and again her eyes have turned to denim blue. I'm beginning to love that color in her eyes. She
lightly runs her thumb on my bottom lip and I grin under the pad of it. "What was that for by the way? Revenge?" I ask. "Nope. It was because of this." Carter says, handing me a piece of paper from the President. I read it, taking in each word of the letter. Permission from the Chief saying that Carter and I have his expressed permission for a relationship. Under Hammond's rules, of course. "Merry Christmas, Sam." I say, grinning like a crazy man. "Merry Christmas, Jack." Carter replies, taking my mouth with hers again. Now that she's my present,
someone give me lots of wrapping paper. Because I'm gonna wrap her up and unwrap her again and again. Too bad she can't remember the kiss from the time loops. I would love to see her expression. Breaking the kiss once more, I put the picture away and grab my jacket and close my locker. I hold out my hand to Carter and she takes it. We head back to the Gate Room and say our good-byes to everyone and then leave. Once we get to my place, out jackets thrown onto
the couch, I carry Carter to my room and begin to remove her dress slowly. She removes my tie and begins to unbutton my shirt. We take our time tormenting the other until there is nothing left separating us but space. I close the gap and lean her back onto my bed. She runs her fingers up and down my spine as I map my own findings of her slender proportions in my mind. I feel her body writhe under me and I bite back a groan as she runs the flat of her hands over my chest, back and rear. I feel her feet rub on the backs of my legs and I know I can't hold back any longer, otherwise I'll explode. I begin to put Carter into a hypnotic rhythm and I feel her nails dig into my flesh. I place my arms on either side of her shoulders and look down into her
eyes. The denim blue that I love so much has turned to an almost midnight blue; like that of her dress. She closes and then opens her eyes just as she throws her head back and gasps for air. As my pace builds speed, I feel her arch and buck under me and I can sense that's she's near her breaking point. But I want to break when she does. I lean to one side and put my right hand between our bodies, finding her sensitive nub of flesh, causing her to buck ferociously against my finger and body. I can see the desire building and burning in her and in her eyes. Suddenly, my thrusts become more urgent and powerful. The next thing I know, Carter and I explode at the same time. I hear her gasp in pleasure, feel her nails in my flesh and her muscles tighten around me. I know exactly how she feels. I feel her soul in mine and mine in hers. I collapse against her, bearing my weight onto her sated body. I feel her run her fingers through my hair and down my neck. I roll to her right side, pulling her to me. I lace my fingers in her hair, bringing her lips to mine, consume her mouth and bury my tongue into her mouth and duel with hers. She and I pull back and smile at each other. "I love you, Colonel." Carter says, bringing my rank into play. I try to glare at her, but I can't be mad at her. Not when she's my Christmas angel. "I love you too, Major." I say, returning the rank remark she started. I pull her close as we both slip into unconscious oblivion. Our next Christmas is sure
to be full of surprises. If not filled with more than love that we have now.
