SUMMARY: Jack and Sam accidentally travel to the future.  Sam’s POV.

The ride through the gate ended and I hit the floor hard.  I didn’t know where I was.  I couldn’t see or hear anything.  Also I didn’t know where Jack was. Oh, I hoped that nothing happened to him.  I tried to call for him but I answered with silence.

I recalled the Goa’uld taking us hostage after Daniel and Teal’c went through the Gate safely.  After the Gate had disengaged they had dialed to somewhere and than they had pushed us through it.  Daniel and Teal’C had gotten through to Earth before the Goa’uld deactivated the Gate.  If only they had two seconds more, than they wouldn’t be in here.

I got up while rubbing my hurt butt, looking around, and found Jack.  He got up and was heading my way but stopped when we heard two voices.

“To-uh, hey Davinia, I forgot the words!”

“Justin, you are so stupid!”

Jack stared into the darkness.  I knew I had a startled look on my face.  Then the owners of the voices sprung out from a nearby tree.  First came a tall human boy with dark brown hair of about 12 years.  This was Justin, I supposed.  His eyes widened and he quickly motioned for his friend to step out.  As we saw her, Jack and I both gasped.

She was tall, her eyes were the same chocolate brown as Jack’s.  Her hair was as blond as mine and she wore it in the exact same style.  When I looked at her extended hand my eyes widened. Marked on her skin was an upturned V – the symbol for Earth on the Stargate.

“Hey, Davinia, these people look like your parents!” Justin snickered.

Davinia shot him a glare identical to the one I give Jack when I’m annoyed with him.

“Yes, I can see that, Justin.”

“I’m sorry!” Davinia suddenly said.  “I haven’t introduced us!  My name is Davinia O’Neill, and this is Justin Jackson.”

Jack looked at them with a shocked expression on his face.

“My name is Samantha Carter and this is Jack O’Neill.”

I frowned at the shocked expression on Davinia’s face.

“My parents are Jack O’Neill and Samantha Carter…but…I don’t understand.”

Davinia looked stunned and ran to my side, pulling a picture out of her pocket as she went.  She shoved it into my hands. I was startled to see that it was a picture we had taken only yesterday.  I was smiling the smile I reserved only for Jack, and he had his arm around my waist.  I remember that it had startled me just a little, as we hadn’t really expressed our true feelings.

“We just had that taken yesterday.”  I said to Davinia.

“So you are my parents….” Her voice trailed off.

Jack frowned at me.  “Carter?!.  Is this another Alternate… parallel… something Universe?”

I started to think, trying to find out what was going on and if this was an Alternate Universe.
“Well, Sir.  The only way, we know, to go to Alternate Universes were the quantum mirrors.  So unless we can get to Alternate Universes by Gate travel, which I don’t believe is possible given the...hmm.  Davinia, when did your parents take this picture?”

Davinia smiled at me and announced like a proud girl: “This picture was taken before I was born…err…about fourteen years ago.”

I nodded.  “Fourteen years ago?  How old are your parents now?”

“My dad is fifty-six now.”

I started to calculate and my eyes widened.  “Oh my God.”

Jack walked over to me.  “What?”

“Don’t you get it?  If this is the future, as I think it is.  Than Davinia will be born…two years from now. That means-“

“That we’re married or could possible be in the future…whoh…deja-vu.”

Davinia was very silent the whole conversation than suddenly she turned around and took the hand of Justin.  “Come on.  I’ll show you the village and than you can meet our parents!!”

I shook my head.  “I don’t think so.”

I saw Jack turn to me again with a frown on his face. “Why not, Carter?  I mean I would really like to see what is going to happen to us all…and it doesn’t mean that we’ll follow the same fate?!”

I sighed, he just didn’t get it.  “If this is the future than we’ll follow the same fate, unless we change things by knowing all this stuff and if WE change than maybe we’ll change other things…like someone else’s life.  Maybe Davinia will never be born because we…oh…how do I explain this?”

“Carter!  I get your point but are you really sure that this is the future and not an Alternate
Universe?”

“I don’t know, Sir.”

Davinia walked back to us and stood in front of me. “My mother, you, once said to me that nothing happens by chance and that everything happens because it has to.”

“So, you’re saying that this is some kind of message? An opportunity?”

Davinia nodded and walked to Justin again.

I looked at Jack.  I was still doubting about this all.  But when he took my elbow and pulled me with him, I changed my mind.  Instead I was curious about what would come.

Davinia and Justin led us around town.  We found out that I was a major and Jack was the General of SGC.  General Hammond had retired and Jack had taken his place.  The Sam and Jack here had been given a favour for rescuing earth so many times, and they had decided that the thing they most wanted was that they could be together for eternity.  So they married and had a
child: Davinia.  Daniel was the leader of SG-1, helping to build up destroyed civilatations by the Goa’uld, together with Janet (he didn’t want to leave his wife behind on the SGC) and Teal’C by his side. The threat of the Goa’uld was no longer and so instead of fighting, they helped the people build up their towns.

When Jack asked about Maybourne, he was met with a groan and an answer of, “Mr.  Maybourne is our Principal…we had a nice lady, but she got fired and this weirdo got let out of jail….”

“Yeah,” Justin quipped in.  “all he ever talks about is freak-o-team SG-1 he wants to kill.”

“SG-1 is not freak-o, Justin!  They are coooool!  And besides your own parents are in it!”

“Well, duh.  That’s why it’s the best team ever. They’re the best team for exploring.”

“My parents are the best in fighting!!  They always stood next to each other, protecting each other!!  Well, besides my father is the best leader together with my mom, but I do like your parents…but I could do without all your father’s sneezing.”

I laugh and wonder.  The description was the exact one of the two of us.

“Well I want to be in it, together with you.”

“You’re an odd person, Davinia.  Maybe that’s why I hang out with you so much.”  Justin grinned at her.

Jack and I exchanged glances at this slight flirting.

“How do we get back home?” Jack asked almost automatically.

Davinia and Justin looked stunned.  “You don’t like it here?” Justin asked.

“We have to go home, kids.” Jack told them gently.  “We don’t belong here in this world, we belong with our friends at our home.”

The two smiled sadly.  “You just seem so fun.” Davinia said.

They had showed us the entirety of the town, including the little beach.  It was gorgeous, but I could see the lounging in Jack’s eyes to go back home.

Now it was time to go and meet the other Daniel, who would tell us how to go back again.  Davinia had taken us to the SGC, where the scientist would be waiting.

We entered the briefing room, the exact same we knew, and waited for the others to arrive.  The first ones to arrive were Samantha and Jack.  I was surprised to say the least.  The couple looked so much like me and Jack, wow.  They looked just like us only a few years older.  I watched them as the older Jack kissed Samantha before he sat down.  He indicated for us to
sit wherever we wanted, while he pulled his Sam on his
lap.

Oh, I was so jealous and felt slightly uncomfortable. I looked next to me at my Jack and he had a small smile on his face, to my surprise enjoying the view.

“So…”  The older Samantha said, trying to build up a conversation as she snuggled against her husbands chest.

I looked down at her husbands hand that was resting on top of her belly.  I frowned as I started to wonder.  I was shaken out of my wondering when the Colonel asked the question that was in my mind.

“Boy or a girl?”

I could see them both grin and Samantha placed her hand on top of her husbands.  “Both.”

“Twins?”

“Ahuh.  Isn’t it wonderful?!  Davinia will be so happy.”

I smiled.  “Well congratulations than.  I’m happy for the both of you.”

I heard Jack snort beside me.  “You just congratulated yourself!  Err…you are her and you are me…right?”

I took my eyes of Samantha’s belly and glanced up and saw her laugh.  “I know it’s hard for you to understand but…yes, I am her and he is you.  I know Sam well enough to know that she is against this but in our past we had the same opportunity.  Remember when we traveled back to 1969, well this is exactly the same.  Only we traveled to the future.”

I frowned.  “Than why are we send to the future?”

The elder Jack gave me a smile, the same smile my Jack warms my heart with.  “One should not bite of more than he can chew.  You already know the things you have to know.  What I mean is…stick around and you’ll find out.  I won’t tell what will happen, that you have to find out yourself.  But I’ll give you the same advice that was given to me…believe…and let everything
happen as it comes.  Don’t fear because everything will be okay.”

When I wanted to comment on that, their Daniel chosed that moment to walk in.  “Hiya, folks.”

“Where’s your little turtle?”

“She’s still with Teal’C on P3X-895.”

“So, since you are here, can you fill me in on the last reports?”

“Well, we’re about half way.  We’re building a new school, a library, forty-five houses, sixty-nine farms and probably a new market.  All will be finished this evening, or this night.  Depends on the FBRC’s.”

I wanted to bounce my head against something, I had always hated it when I couldn’t understand something. Elder Jack must have seen my expression because he smiled, while Daniel sat down.

“FBRC stands for Fast Building Remote Control.  They are the latest new machines.  I can’t tell you much but what I can tell is that many problems will be solved out of the world by your inventions.  And yes the FBRC is one of them and they can build…VERY fast. About two-hundred things in one day.”

My eyes widen at the new information I got.  “Wow, that must have cost a lot.”

Daniel shook his head.  “Money doesn’t exist anymore.”

“How?  I don’t understand.”

“You will, Sam.  Well, I think it’s time to send you folks back home.”

Elder Jack laughed.  “Yeah, I want to get rid of you. So when this is over, I can have wild kinky love with my wife here.”

I can’t help but smile at Daniel rolling his eyes.

“Oh Jack, please.  Rent a room.”

“Sammy, I think our Space monkey is jealous.  You should’ve stayed on the planet with Jan than, Danny. We could’ve handled this all by ourselves, right baby?”

Samantha laughed and it still felt strange, hearing and seeing them.  I could clearly see that they were all one big happy family.  Not that I’m complaining but it’s just so strange.

“Right.  Now, just like Daniel said.  We are a lot further with our technology and we have the ability to send you back in time again, to send you home.”

I looked at Jack who was sitting very quietly the whole conversation.  I think the situation was still sinking in.  “So, you can go back in time whenev-“

“No, Sam.  I won’t tell.  You know too much already, I can’t explain it.  Just trust us and you’ll be home before you know it.  Now, Jack and I are going back to the office and Daniel will meet you again tommorow morning at the Gate.  He’ll bring the device with him.”

Samantha stood up and pulled Jack with her, stealing a kiss away from him.  We all stood and we both said goodbye to our doubles.  Handshakes and hugs were exchanged and we all left.

Well after that, Jack decided to go to watch the sunset over the beach.

It was chilly on the beach, so I moved closer to Jack. His eyes sparkled brightly and his mouth curled into a smile. I risked it all and laid my head on his shoulder.  He jerked uneasily at my move, and I wished that I hadn’t done that.  With Jack you have to take things slowly.  After what happened with Sara and Charlie he became bittered, afraid to love someone again.  But with the steady sound of his heartbeat and the soft crash of the waves on the beach, I soon
nodded of to sleep.

I didn’t awaken for about half an hour.  The first thing I noticed was that my head had fallen to Jack’s lap and he was caressing my cheek.  I looked up quickly at his face and saw that he was smiling at me.  I sat up, brushing the sleep out of my eyes.

“Sorry Sir, I…I guess I’m just tired.”

He put his arm behind me on the bench and smiled.  “That’s okay, Sam, believe me….”

I looked into his eyes for not the first time.  I realized then just how much I really loved him, and how hard life would be without him.  He was always so gentle and I knew he cares a lot about me.  Not more than Daniel or Teal’C did but in a different way.  He was silent and unmoving.  I think he understood what I was thinking.  I know as we stared into each other’s
eyes (unknowing that our faces were becoming ever so much closer) that we shared the same feelings.

Before I totally realized what was happening, Jack was kissing me, and I was kissing him back.  That first kiss lasted a nice, long time.  Though right after his lips touched mine, our eyes sprung open, and I was startled to see tears in Jack’s eyes.

“I never knew…oh, Sam, I had no idea…I….” he stuttered, a few glorious moments later.

I pressed a finger on his soft lips and looked him straight in the eye.  “I…love you.”

He looked at me like he didn’t understand.  “I…love…you.”  I said, speaking slowly letting him
watch my lips move.  “I…love you…very…very much.”  I stopped as a tear trickled down my warm cheek.  I saw his eyes water and he nodded.  He took me in his strong arms and I heard him whisper.  “I love you, Sam.  God, do I love you.”  I heard the trembling and the emotion in his voice.  Finally after all those years we confessed to each other.  We always knew we loved one other but saying it makes the conscious apprehensions believe it is there.

Davinia and Justin soon appeared and guided us to the Gate again, where we met Daniel.

I watched him as he placed the small triangle device on the Stargate, pushing in some buttons, the Gate started to spin.

“Well, this is goodbye than.  Take care and follow your hearts and say hi from me to your Janet!!”  He grinned, waved and than walked away.

“Bye Davinia, bye Justin.” We called as we stepped through the Gate.

EPILOGUE

It is Saturday morning.  I am enjoying a walk in the woods near the mountain complex, but I know it would be better if Jack was with me. As if reading my thoughts he jumps from behind a tree to surprise me. I smile at him and reach out my hand to take one of his.

Together we walk on the path ending at a big flat rock.  I step on it and pull Jack with me.

Surprised by the view, I forget about the things around me.  I lean into Jack’s touch when he caresses my cheek. His fingers, oh so gentle, as if afraid that I will break.

I see him look above my head into the sky far, away in thought.

I turn around and wrap my arms around his muscled body, holding him close to me.  I pull my head back and kiss him to get his attention.  Then he surprises me with a question.

“You think we should tell them about us?”

I see his questioning eyes, searching mine waiting foran answer.  I reach up again and kiss him gently, softly because I love him.  “When the time comes, we’ll tell and besides a secret relationship is much more exiting.”

I frown at him when he points at the sky and smiles. I look up at the direction given to me.

Two huge birds are flying across the sky, so close next to each other.  I narrow my eyes when they fly to the sun and I can’t see them anymore.

Wow.  I close my eyes and lie my head on Jack’s chest as a sudden strong gust of wind cools the air and almost blows us off the rock.

I feel Jack’s arms tighten around me and I smile into his chest as the sun warms my skin.  We slowly started to sway, like we were slowing dancing on the music of nature.  And as I hear Jack say my name in such a lovely whisper, I whisper to him, “I love you too.”
