Goodbye

"Janet, get your ass here right now!" Colonel Jack O'Neill shouted from the ramp of the Stargate toward Janet who was almost at the door. He gently placed Samantha Carter on the ramp, trying to get their equipment as much off her as possible, only to see that those were covered in blood.

A trail of blood was forming under her. He could see as her chest fell up and down with difficulty. "Sam, you'll be ok."

"Jack I need you to move and tell me what happened."

"I don't know, we had arrived and everything was quiet." Janet was already working on getting her on a stretcher. "Then she pushed me out of the way and suddenly bullets got her."

"I need everyone here to help." Janet ordered "Especially you Jack I need you to keep her conscious."

With Sam on the stretcher, they began to move, Jack trying to talk to her. "Sammie, please stay awake." he took hold of her hand and squeezed "You are going to get better."

"Sir" Sam tried to talk but the pain was so intense that she couldn't.

"Call me Jack Sam, you saved my life, thank you." he said but Sam only shook her head and tried to smile. He didn't pay attention to the orders Janet was giving, nor did he notice that they had arrived to the infirmary. "Sammie you have to hold on"

"Sammie?" Sam chuckled.

"New nickname, you better learn to like it!"

"I already do." He smiled at her and for the first time he let himself really touches her face. "I have to tell you something...sir...I"

"Jack, call me Jack"

"Jack... I love you."

Jack looked at her incredibly with surprise on his face. He knew he had to say it too, right this minute "Sammie" he thumped her cheek "I love you too." She smiled at him and closed her eyes. Jack asked her to stay put before being taken out of the room.

The hours that passed where the worst of his life. He felt that he should have confessed his feelings before, but now he knew it was too late because Janet walked out with a sad face. He rushed up to her and asked how Sam was doing.

"Jack, there is nothing we could have done for her." Jack stared at her, not believing that Janet was telling him that.

"Can I see her?" he asked gently.

Janet nodded and instructed him to follow. He went in and saw her. She was lying down on the stretcher, naked, a white sheet with spots of red covered her up to her chest. Her eyes were closed with dried tears in her eyes.

He walked up to her and took her cold hand in his. His other hand went to her face, to put the short hair away from her forehead.

"Why did you die, why did you leave?" Jack asked her, knowing that she wouldn't answer.

By now tears were running down his face, he was ripping her hand and trying hard to see if her chest was still unmoving. "Didn't you hear I loved you?"

Janet watched from behind, wrapped on Daniel, who had followed them into the room. She felt it was unfair, and she wished she could have done more for them.

"Didn't you love me?"

Jack fell to his knees besides her, crying in to her hand, feeling life if life had been drained out of him. He felt alone, unsure, scared without her.

Jack too hold of the sheet and placed it over her head after delivering a kiss to her lips.

"Someday we'll be together Sammie, for now... goodbye my love."
