Part 1: The Escape

Samantha Carter looked at the monitor screen of the deathglider she piloted. No one pursued her—yet, but soon they would discover the body of her dead Jaffa guard, and they would follow. Ba'al would kill her before he would allow her to escape...that she knew for certain. As she entered the planet's atmosphere a city was visible on the western coast of the largest continent. Hoping they would ask questions before shooting her down—praying they spoke English, she set her coordinates for the city. She could try radio contact, but that might alert Ba'al's forces to her absence. `No, she'd take her chances with unknown aliens.'

She landed in a large open commons area outside an official looking building, reminiscent of the buildings of ancient Greece or Rome. Popping up the canopy of her glider, she stepped out. `Breathable atmosphere…so far so good.' The long heavy cloak that covered her diaphanous gown made climbing out of the cockpit difficult. Especially when you added her swollen belly to the equation. Her advanced stage of pregnancy made moving about a bit more difficult.

Three people approached her. From all appearances they were human, two males and one female. The men were dressed in toga style tunics and leggings, and the woman was in a long gown. They carried no visible weapons.

Sam stepped toward them. "Please I need your help…your protection for myself and my unborn child."

No response. Sam was becoming increasingly distressed—they would come for her soon and take her back to the mothership. Tears flooded her eyes when she thought of the fate that awaited her there. "Please, she begged. Don't let this happen. The goa'uld will kill us."

They looked at each other with questioning expressions; then, looked back in her direction. "Please, I don't mean to put you or your world in danger, but I have no where else to go." She turned and beat her fist on the side of the glider. "God, just my luck...you don't even understand me. Ba'al's going to come and wipe this place out. He'll take me away and you'll never even know what it was all about."

She turned to climb back into the deathglider to leave. She wouldn't bring destruction to these unknowing people. As she lifted her leg into the cockpit one of the aliens spoke. "Please accept our apologies. Our translators took a few minutes to assimilate your language. You seek sanctuary?"

Sam's heart jumped with hope. "Oh yes…you do understand. Yes…I need sanctuary, but you must know that those who seek me are powerful and evil. They will destroy this planet to find me."

They stepped toward her and lifted her arm, looking at the goa'uld hand device she wore. She had stolen it and used it to make her escape. "We do not fear. Your weapon was deactivated when you entered our atmosphere." They stepped back and spoke quietly amongst themselves; then, one of the men left the group and ran toward the nearby building. The woman turned to Sam. "Come, you must speak to Sha'la."

A crowd was beginning to gather in the courtyard. They looked at her and whispered …steadily getting louder. Some looked to the sky, others pointed at her glider or at her. She could hear them repeating "Rhea".

She was led to a chamber inside the palatial building. It was a strange mix of ancient architecture and some obviously more advanced technology. The crowd had followed. Entering a large chamber, Sam was met by a woman dressed in a flowing silver tunic and leggings. The woman inclined her head slightly before speaking. "I am Sha'la, Oracle of Numitor. You seek sanctuary?'

"Yes, but I'm afraid I may have brought destruction to your doorstep. Ba'al, the one who held me prisoner, will destroy this planet to recapture me. And I must warn you that a demon sleeps within me and may awaken at anytime taking control of my mind and body."

Sha'la nodded. "You speak of the goa'uld symbiote you carry?"

"Yes, you know of the goa'uld?"

"We have encountered them before. They do not trouble us. Long ago the gods gave us defenses against them, as they also gave us the translator that we might understand all others and they us," replied Sha'la. "Please sit and tell me your story." She gestured toward a sofa.

Sam sat and began. "Forgive my rudeness and thank you for receiving me. I'm honored to meet you, I only hope my presence here doesn't create a difficult situation for you. I am Major Samantha Carter. My home is on the planet Earth—the Tauri home world. We are explorers who travel through a Stargate to different planets. Our explorations have resulted in contact with the goa'uld and we have been battling them along with several other races for the past seven years. Ba'al captured me while I was on a mission months ago with my team, SG-1. I was implanted with the symbiote of his queen, Anat. She now sleeps within me to prevent me from having a miscarriage. Sha'la handed her something that resembled a tissue as the tears began to course freely down her cheeks. "After my child is born, Anat will reassert her control…and..." She took in a deep shuddering breath. Sha'la placed her long thin fingers over Sam's hand to comfort her. Finding the strength, she continued. "Sha'la, I fear that since I have escaped Anat will awaken causing me to abort my baby."

Sha'la rose. "We will sort all of this out later, but for now we must keep you and your child safe." She walked over to a flat silver disk, which hung on the chamber wall and waived her hand before it. The face of another person appeared on the screen. "Please bring the Stone of Vesta to my main chamber." Within minutes the man had arrived carrying a small box. Opening it, she removed what looked like an amulet on a choker chain and placed it around Sam's neck. "Anat cannot awaken as long as you wear this, and only I have the ability to remove it."

Sam breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you. Now, do you have a Stargate?"

"What is a Stargate?"

"It is a giant standing ring through which we travel to other worlds."

"You must mean the Astronaut's portal; then yes, but it has not been used for millennia. It is a part of the religious belief of our people. It is foretold in the Ab Urbe Condita, a holy book, that one day the Rhea will come to us. An astronaut, seeking to save her from the evil one who pursues her, will come through the portal. He will lead our people back to their true home among the stars, Alba Longa."

The doors swung opened and a Numitorian man followed by Ba'al entered the room. "My apologies, Oracle. He would not wait. This man claims the woman is his and wants her returned to him immediately."

Ba'al brushed him aside and stepped forward with a swagger. "I am Lord Ba'al. She is my queen and carries our child. I demand you release her to me this instant! If you do not I will destroy you." His voice boomed with typical goa'uld arrogance.

Sha'la half smiled. "Lord Ba'al as I'm sure you are already aware, your weapons are useless here. They were deactivated when you entered our atmosphere. Neither will the weapons aboard your ship penetrate our barriers. So make no threats." She paused and walked toward Sam, who had retreated to the far side of the room. Placing an arm around her, she led her back to the sofa and gestured for her to sit. "This woman has told us that she was a prisoner and that you threaten her life and that of her unborn."

"She lies. Why would I threaten the life of my wife and queen, and of my own child?"

"And which is your queen—the host or only the symbiote?" Sha'la questioned and watched his response closely.

"My wife and queen Anat possess this body. Anat must sleep for the sake of our child, but she holds claim to this body—not the Tauri woman. Release her to me now!"

"I cannot. She has asked for sanctuary. By the code of my people, I must respect that request."

Ba'al flared with anger. "That is unacceptable. I demand you release her to me! Does not my goa'uld queen have a right to freedom? I will have her returned—NOW!"

Calmly Sha'la responded, "Lord Ba'al, by our codes we will have Triumvirate. There you may speak, as may Samantha Carter. We will consider the facts and decide who has claim to this body. Until then, she is granted sanctuary with us."

He smiled and looked past Sha'la to Sam. "You force me to do this…to sacrifice my child to regain my queen. I'm sorry my love that our plans for our child must be disrupted. Anat! Awaken to reclaim this body." He waited as nothing happened. "Anat!" he bellowed.

"Anat cannot be summoned at this time. To protect the unborn child we have placed Anat in suspension. Only we can awaken her."

"NO!" He screamed through anger clench teeth and with fists pulled straight to his sides.

Sha'la stood tall and looked down at the goa'uld from the platform where she stood. "Lord Ba'al, your only other option is to surrender your claim to this woman and leave now. What will it be?"

Ba'al recognized he had little alternative but to play along. "Very well! When will the Triumvirate be held?"

"Within a few days time." Turning she looked at Sam. "We must speak more before it can be scheduled. We will contact you at that time. Please return to your ship."

Ba'al snarled and spat the words through his teeth, "If my queen is to remain here; then so shall I. I will require suitable chambers."

Sha'la nodded to one of the men attending. He stepped forward, "My Lord Ba'al, if you would follow me please."

Sam was immediately at her side. "Thank you for what you have done. Now may I use your Stargate to return home?"

"I am sorry Samantha Carter, but I cannot allow that. As I said, I am bound by the codes of Triumvirate. Your fate is not yet decided. If you carry this man's child, does he not have some claim to you?" Sam winced at the thought. "And what of Anat? You may however, request that you be represented by others from your race. We can contact them and allow them to use the Astronaut's portal. Do you have knowledge of how to make the portal function?"

Sam dropped her head into her hands. She had thought she was safe—now this. "Yes. Can you show me your Astronaut's portal so that I can check the symbols? A shield that will not allow travelers to enter without a special device covers the gate of my world. I do not have one of the devices with me, but if you have a means of sending a voice signal, I can transmit that through an open wormhole."

Part 2: The Company of Friends

The klaxon sounded, "Unauthorized incoming wormhole." The General was immediately in the control room. "Sergeant, close the iris. We have no teams currently off-world. Are you receiving any signal?"

"Yes, Sir. There is an audio signal I'm trying to clear up now. Okay Sir, here you go."

"General Hammond…this is Major Samantha Carter. Are you reading this, Sir?"

Overjoyed to hear her voice after she had been reported MIA for 7 months, he jumped toward the console with an ear-to-ear smile. "Major, good to hear you."

Her heart soared when she heard his voice. `Home…finally, someone from home.' Tears filled her eyes. "Sir, I've been a prisoner of Ba'al, but I escaped to this planet. Unfortunately, Ba'al followed me and is here too. This race seems more advanced in some ways—at least the goa'uld weapons don't work here…so I'm safe from attack. Sir, there's a lot I have to tell you in a short time…and its not very good Sir. I…I've been taken as a host for Ba'al's queen. For the moment she is suppressed. The people of Numitor have given me sanctuary. I'm wearing a device they placed on me—much like the thing the Tollan used on Skaara to suppress Klorel. General, there will be some sort of tribunal to determine who has claim to my body." The General could hear her voice cracking. "Sir, they may give me back to Ba'al. I…I need help."

"Major, you understand that I must confirm what you're telling me. If you will close this wormhole, we will redial and send a MALP through so that we can establish visual confirmation?"

"I understand, Sir. General…uh…Sir…there is one more thing I need to tell you about, Sir. Uh…when you see me, Sir…Uh…well you see…well, Sir…" She took a deep breath, "I'm pregnant, Sir."

The General hesitated…20 questions flying through his mind. "Understood. Please disengage and wait for the MALP, Major. Hammond out." As soon as the wormhole disengaged the General was barking orders. A MALP was being rolled onto the ramp and SG-1 was being paged to the gate control room. Moments later the wormhole was re-established and after a few seconds the picture began to clear. As the camera panned around, they saw her standing beside the DHD. Dressed in a dark blue and purple brocade cloak and a floor length gossamer pale blue gown, wearing a goa'uld ribbon device on her left hand, she looked very much a queen. The azure blue of her eyes accentuated by the colors of her cloak, and the blonde hair (now much longer than when they had last seen her) framed her face. As the camera zoomed-in on her, she forced a smile. Her hand subconsciously went to her enlarged belly.

"Major, Good to see that it really is you. I'm sending SG-1 and Dr. Frasier through to give you assistance. I'm also trying to contact your father." Not knowing what else to say. "Major, we want you home. Hammond out." He turned to SG-1. "Be careful...this could still be a trap. Major Carter may not be in control. Get going people." As they filed out he grabbed Jack by the shoulder. "Listen to her son. If it is the Major, she's going to need you. Just be careful." Jack just nodded.

***

Sam couldn't believe the weight that was lifted when her friends stepped through the wormhole, but at the same time a sense of panic built. What would Jack say about her pregnancy? She looked up at him with tears in her eyes, "Colonel…J…Jack." She wanted to touch him… needed to touch him and be held by him. But a lot of things had happened…how would her feel about her?

"Good to see you, Major…Sam. Aah…damn it to hell." He took her in his arms and held her tight as uncontrolled sobs shook her body. One by one all of her friends stepped up to embrace her. She felt so warm, safe, and loved. Never again would she take the company of friends for granted. As they released her, she returned to Jack's arms. "Sam, is there someplace we can talk?"

Sha'la stepped forward. "Allow me…I am Sha'la, Oracle of Numitor. Are you the leader of the astronauts?"

Jack had a questioning look on his face, but Sam stepped in for him. "Colonel, they call the Stargate the astronaut's portal and travelers, astronauts."

"Uh, then yes. I am in command of this group."

Sha'la inclined her head slightly. "Welcome to Numitor. I can show you to accommodations where you may all rest and talk. I will send food and refreshments."

Daniel spoke for Jack. "Thank you. That would be nice. I am Daniel Jackson that is Colonel Jack O'Neill, over there is Teal'c, and this is Dr. Janet Frasier."

"It is an honor to make your acquaintance. Please follow me."

***

The crowd, which had followed Sam since her arrival on the planet, had grown larger. They had followed her to the gate, crying out in amazement as she engaged the wormhole. The clamor of voices had gotten really loud when SG-1 had emerged from the ring. Now, they had followed them back to the building where rooms were being provided.

***

Settled in their suite of rooms, everyone had questions. "How long have I been gone?" Sam asked.

"Seven months," replied Daniel. "You were reported MIA. We searched everywhere, but there was no trace."

"Okay, I know what's on everyone's mind…so lets get it out in the open. I'm pregnant. I don't have a clue how far I am along. I…I have no memory of being with Ba'al, but he insists it is his child. I think we have to face the fact that the child I carry may be his and may be harsesis—that's the only reason I can think of as to why Anat would sleep."

Daniel looked up at her. "I'm…I'm sorry, but I think there is a good chance you are right. Remember Amounet slept to prevent Sha're from having a miscarriage while she carried Shifu."

Jack was pacing back and forth in front of the window and watching the crowd below as they stood, holding candles, in the darkness. In the back of his mind he wondered what all of that was about, but there were more pressing matters. "Okay…okay…let's not jump to any conclusions. Back up to the beginning of this story and let's sort it through." Taking Sam's hand in his, he pulled her over to sit beside him on the couch. "Okay, we were gating to P4X-whatever investigating reports of a stash of goa'uld weapons and naquada. Now we know it was a trap and Ba'al's forces were waiting for us. They let us spread out before showing themselves. Two of them grabbed the Major while she was testing minerals we had found in storage containers. The others moved in to separate us—basically to keep us away while they ringed out with Sam. It looked like they were after her specifically, because the rest of the Jaffa retreated once they had taken her. We searched the area and finding no signs of any life on the planet, gated home to mount a rescue. After two weeks of intensive searches by all available teams, the search was called off and Sam declared MIA." Jack paused looking at her. He put an arm around her as if to assure himself that she was really there. Then he continued. "None of our allies could find any sign of Ba'al." He paused again and looked into her eyes. "Last month, you were declared MIA and presumed dead."

"It was a trap…and they wanted me, for several reasons--my scientific knowledge, my knowledge of the Tok'ra and the SGC, most of all the fact that I am a member of SG-1. Ba'al hates SG-1 for embarrassing him." Turning to face Jack, "He hates you, Sir, for escaping him, and was really pissed at all of us for freeing Dad and Ambassador Vosh. He wanted to lash out at us all. Making me host to his queen was his way of doing that."

Janet broke in. "Sam, what do you remember after you were taken? Were you tortured as he has done before?" She saw Jack shudder and grip Sam's hand even tighter. He, better than anyone there knew what Ba'al was capable of doing. Janet looked back to her friends face. "Sam…did he…Sam, I'm sorry, but I'm just going to ask this here and in front of everyone…did he rape you?"

She closed her eyes and grimaced. "I was implanted almost immediately. He did nothing to me before that. I expected it to come." Looking at Jack, "I feared what was probably coming—knowing how ruthless he can be. He threatened me, but it didn't happen. I remember the pain when Anat entered my body. Then nothing until Anat went to sleep. I awoke and Ba'al told me I was carrying our child, and that Anat slept for the sake of the baby." Rubbing her hand over her belly, she glanced to her side and into Jack's eyes then quickly looked back to the floor.

"I've waited and watched for an opportunity. Finally it came. He was careless and left a hand device lying out. I took it and hid it. When we were nearing this planet, I used it to incapacitate the guard, and stole a deathglider to come here. You know the rest of the story. The necklace Sha'la placed on me keeps Anat suppressed. Ba'al tried to call her forward even though he knew I would miscarry."

Tears filled her eyes as she looked at Jack. "Just get this damned thing out of me and take me home." He caressed down the side of her face to her shoulder; then, wrapped her in his arms again. Everyone watched, but said nothing—all fully aware of the depth of emotions between their two teammates, but unaware of the true nature of their relationship.

Janet came to sit by her. "Sam, honey. We need to find a private place where I can check you over." She nodded and reluctantly left Jack's embrace to go with Janet.

***

Jack's jaw was tightly locked. He rose and paced back to the window. He stood, clenching and unclenching his fists. Suddenly, he grabbed a vase and hurled it at the wall. "Son-of-a-bitch. That filthy bastard! How could he…" A chair followed the vase. Jack threw himself at the wall and slid to sit on the floor.

Daniel was immediately beside him. Tears were glistening in his eyes, but rage burned behind them. "Jack, you have to believe it will be okay. We'll find a way. We always find a way."

"Fuck you and your eternal optimism…I'm sick of it Daniel. What ever made us think we had a chance…"

"Jack, I know you and Sam care a great deal about each other. It's obvious to those who care about you. I've waited and wished…but you have to be strong for Sam. She needs us all now, but she needs you most of all."

***

Once inside the private sleeping quarters Sam broke down—months of isolation with Ba'al, of not knowing if she'd ever see her friends again, being taken as host, her pregnancy—all came crashing in on her. She fell into Janet's arms and cried. Janet just held and comforted her friend until her tears abated; then she brushed her hair back and pulled her face up to look into her eyes. "Sam, don't give up. We'll get through this. I need to check you over if that's okay? My guess is the goa'uld don't have pre-natal care." She helped her undress and laid her back on the bed covering her with a blanket that had been folded on the foot of the bed. Janet began her exam… heart and lungs sounded good...there had been no torture—or, if there had, no signs of it remained.

"Sam, I need to do a pelvic exam. Pull your knees up and spread for me. I'll be gentle and as quick as I can." She helped Sam position her feet on the bed to give her access. After finishing she measured the distance from Sam's navel to the top of her enlarged uterus. Then she pulled another instrument out of her bag. "Sam, this is a Doppler. It's used to listen to the baby's heartbeat. I'm going to put some cold gel on your belly." Janet squirted the gel onto Sam's abdomen and turning on the Doppler, she put what looked like the ends of a stethoscope into her ears and the other end on Sam's belly. Slowly she moved it over her rounded belly. Over and over again she moved and listened, moved and listened, moved back and listened again.

Sam noted a look of concern on her friends face. "Janet, what's wrong?" she asked a little panicky. Janet put a finger to her lips indicating she needed to be quiet. Finally she took the plugs from her ears.

"Nothing is wrong, just wanted to be sure. Sam, I hear two heartbeats. I need an ultrasound to confirm, but I think you're having twins. Do you want to listen?"

Sam just shook her head `no'. "How far, Janet?" Sam almost whispered the question.

"What, honey?"

"How far along am I?"

"It's only a guess without the proper equipment here, but I would say 6-7 months. Taking into consideration the fact that its twins—it could be only 5-6 months." Janet sat down by her and took her hand. She said nothing…what was there to say?

A knock came softly at the door. Teal'c opened it only a crack. "Dr. Frasier. Major Carter. Sha'la has arrived and wishes to speak with us. She asked that you be present, Major Carter."

Janet answered. "Give us a minute and we'll be right there." She helped Sam dress and gathered her into her arms for a sisterly hug before ushering her out the door.

When they exited the bedroom, Jack stepped up and put his arm around Sam. Looking over at Janet, he asked, "Everything okay with mother and baby?"

Janet nodded. "Yes, but that's mother and babies. Sam is carrying twins." Auntie Janet was beaming from ear to ear. Mother had no expression.

Sha'la looked up in surprise, "She carries twins? She must truly be the Rhea. We must speak."

Daniel's interest was pricked, "The Rhea …twins…I get it now. That's what they've been chanting out there." He gestured toward the balcony window. "You mean Rhea Silvia?"

"Daniel…what's going on here?" asked Jack warily.

"Rhea Silvia, in ancient Roman mythology, was the mother of twin sons, Romulus and Remus, who were the founders of Rome. She was the daughter of Numitor who …yes…yes, now it makes sense…Numitor was the ruler of Alba Longa until his brother usurped his thrown. Numitor had one child, Rhea Silvia, and prophecy said that her offspring would be great and powerful leaders. Fearing what would happen if Rhea ever had children, he sent her to serve a vestal virgin. But the god of war saw her in the temple garden and raped her, she gave birth to twin sons. When her uncle learned of this he had her killed and the babies thrown into the river Tiber. They were rescued and when they were grown and learned the truth, destroyed their uncle."

Sha'la had listened intently, scooting to the edge of her seat and looking more animated than they had ever seen before. "This is most unexpected. The people may be correct. Our legend says that the Rhea will come to us heavy with child. She comes seeking safety for herself and her children. A warrior, the father of her children and an astronaut who travels the stars through the portal, will come to save her and her unborn. Then my people will be reunited with their ancient homeland of Alba. " She looked directly at Sam. "You are the one who was prophesied to come."

Jack looked at Daniel with concern, "Daniel…help us out here. I don't like being part of somebody's mumbo-jumbo legend. That has led to a whole shit-load of bad things happening in the past."

"Jack, it's very possible that these people were brought here from ancient earth—possibly even Rome itself. Wow! And this part of Roman mythology came with them…of course its changed a bit over thousands of years. But we've seen this kind of change and evolution in myths before."

"Yeah," said Jack. "I know. That's what bothers me." He turned to Sha'la. So, if we're part of this whole prophecy thing, does this mean we can forget about this whole deciding who gets Sam thing?"

"Colonel, I'm sorry it does not. You see, Lord Ba'al arrived here by the portal also. He, is the father of these children, and may well be the astronaut. If so, it is he who will fulfill the prophecy."

"For cryin out loud, he's a goddamned slimy snake head. He's not gonna save anyone's ass or lead anyone, anywhere, except straight into hell."

"Jack…settle down," chided Daniel.

"What we know of the goa'uld would also suggest that he is not the one, but until we are sure…Triumvirate will decide. I will explain the process. It is quite simple and expedient. A panel of three sages, chosen from the elders of Numitor will decide the outcome of Triumvirate and the fate of Samantha and her children. We will hear from the goa'uld Ba'al and from Samantha. Some of you may also be asked to speak. The debate will begin when the second sun rises tomorrow. I will send nourishment in the morning; then you will be escorted to the gathering hall. I shall take my leave of you now." She approached Sam and stood quietly before her, staring into her eyes. With a slight inclination of her head, much as they had many times witnessed from Teal'c, she turned and exited the suite.

***

"We should probably get some rest. I don't think we need to worry about posting a sentry. Everybody pick a room and we'll talk again at 0530 hours in the morning." Jack seemed calm and composed—like he was making plans for negotiations on any of their missions.

Janet stopped by Sam's bedroom before heading to her own. "You be okay tonight? I could stay if you want my company."

Her voice betrayed her. Janet knew she was crying. "No Janet. That's okay. I'd probably just keep you awake."

Janet walked closer and sat on the side of the bed beside her. Stroking her hair back from her face like she often did Cassie's when she was upset at something. "Sam, do you want me to send him in? You shouldn't be alone."

She cried even harder. "Janet…why would he want to be here? I'm possessed by one goa'uld, pregnant by another—who just happens to be the same one that tortured and killed Jack numerous times. Why would he want to be here?"

Janet turned Sam's face to make her look into her eyes. "Because…he loves you!"

"I'm sorry, but I can't do that to him."

Leaving the room, Janet saw the colonel on the balcony watching the candle lit crowd below, who had evidently gathered to keep a vigil over the Rhea. They softly chanted. Janet touched his arm lightly to get his attention when he did not respond to her voice. "Colonel, a word with you, Sir?" He glanced at her and turned back to the crowd. "You should go to her…she needs you."

Jack's dark eyes looked up at her. "Janet, I don't know what to say to her. You know I'm no good with words. I'll stick my foot in my mouth and upset her even more." Janet stood quietly and stared out across the city waiting for Jack to continue. "Janet, I love her so much. What am I gonna do?"

"Colonel…Jack, she's afraid you don't want her anymore." He opened his mouth, but Janet stopped him. "Jack, don't try to deny it. I have suspected for a long time that there was a whole lot more than any of us knew going on between the two of you. That doesn't matter now. Just go be with her…the words will come." She patted his arm and he pulled her into a hug; then, turned toward Sam's door.

Part 3: Family

Without knocking he slipped inside the room. In the dim light he could see her lying on a huge bed. It had to be the biggest bed he had ever seen—at least 8 feet down each side. She looked so tiny lying in the middle of it. Walking to bed and crawling onto it, he reached out and caressed her hair. It had grown long in the months she had been away. He liked it longer. "Sam," he whispered feeling her stiffen slightly at his voice.

"If Janet sent you…you don't have to be here…" her voice was muffled in the pillow.

He took her shoulder and rolled her over to look in her eyes. They were red and brimming with tears. His strong independent 2IC looked so frail and tiny. "Sam, I love you. We'll find a way." He pulled her into a tight embrace.

Sam responded, wrapping her arms around his neck and clinging tightly to him. Moving her head back to look at his face, she stared tentatively until he made the move for her and claimed her lips in a sweet, gentle kiss. Releasing her, he stood and removed his T-shirt, shoes and pants; then, climbed under the covers with her. She rested her head on his chest, comforted by the sound of his heartbeat. "Jack, we should probably talk."

"Ssh…rest. We can talk later."

She snuggled against is body, but her pregnant belly prevented her from molding herself to him as she always had in the past—in fact it held her back from the closeness of his embrace. He felt her tense and then the sensation of wet warmth as tears began to flow onto his chest.

"Oh god, Jack, I'm so sorry I've done this to us…to you. I know you can never forgive me…I understand if you don't want to be with me."

He tried to console her, pulling her face up to his and brushing the tears away with his thumbs while kissing her cheek. "Ssh…you haven't done anything to apologize for Sam. You were the victim here. Don't you ever think I don't want you…never…ever…Do you understand that?"

"But, Jack. I'm pregnant by another man—worse a goa'uld…probably the one you hate most of all."

He felt the shiver run through her body. "Let me tell you something. What I know about these babies is that they are a part of you. And that's all that matters to me. I love them already as part of you. I don't think of them as Ba'al's children. If anything, his human host is the father, not that sorry-assed snake—and the host was probably a good man. He's just as much a victim in this as you are. Honey, I love you. And I will be there for you and for these kids. I will be their father…I want to be their father."

Somewhat relieved, she leaned her head onto his shoulder. "Even if the Triumvirate decides in my favor and the Tok'ra remove Anat, my babies…my babies are harsesis—they will never have normal lives. If I go home to earth, the NID will hunt them down. If I stay off-world, the goa'uld will hunt them because their law forbids them to exist. I don't want to lose my babies to either…and I really don't want them to go off and do the glowy thing with Shifu." She sighed and a sob broke her voice. "I always thought about being pregnant for the first time. About how great it was going to be—how happy we were going to be. Life was going to be so perfect. Guess I should known by now that the universe has conspired to make our lives anything but perfect."

"Sam, you've just got to believe it will work out. I chewed Daniel's ass out for saying this earlier, but you know that things have a way of working out for SG-1. Just hang in there. Don't quit on me girl."

She kissed him on the cheek. "We should at least try to sleep." She snuggled as close as possible, finding a better position that allowed her to scoot more fully into his arms and lay her ear to his chest. He heard her breathing even out. Soon the sound of his familiar heartbeat lulled her to sleep.

***

Something disturbed Sam's sleep. Slowly she awoke…the fragrance of bougainvilleas and salt air filling her senses. Something moved beneath her and she remembered. They were in Jamaica. It was Jack's warm body beneath her. She became aware of arms wrapped tightly around her and the memory of falling asleep on Jack with his flaccid penis still within her. He squirmed and realized she was still asleep. She kissed his chest and lightly traced patterns around his nipples with her nails, watching as they grew hard beneath her touch. She realized her actions had stirred another beast as she felt his penis twitch to life inside her. This was something she had always wanted to experience, but never had the opportunity. "Oh god!" She gasped at the sensation as he stretched and grew inside her, instantly arousing her too. She closed her eyes, a moan escaping her lips, as she was lost in the sensation as he grew to fill every inch of her. Softly he whispered, "My love..." Lifting her head from his neck, kissing a trail of hot wet kisses up the side of his neck, she opened her eyes and looked into the face of her lover—Ba'al.

Sam screamed and started thrashing around in the bed, hitting and kicking Jack as she tried to disentangle herself from the covers. He grabbed her trying to hold and comfort her from the nightmare that had just awakened her. Daniel, Janet and Teal'c burst through the door prepared to defend their friends and themselves. Teal'c caught Sam just as she fell forward off the side of the bed. Janet was immediately at her side.

"What happened?" Janet asked, trying to get Sam back to the bed. She was pale, her pulse was racing and she was hyperventilating.

As they reached the bed where Jack was kneeling in just his briefs, he reached for Sam and she went readily into his arms, snuggling into his chest. When she stilled Jack asked, "You okay?"

"Yeah…bad dream."

"You always tell me it helps to talk about it."

She looked at the faces of their friends, Janet sitting beside her, Daniel on the foot of the bed and Teal'c standing at the foot. "We…I was on vacation in Jamaica…" She looked up into Jack's eyes to see if he was following. "I was in bed with…with a lover, but when I looked at his face…it was Ba'al."

Jack held her tight. "It was just a dream."

"Jack, we have to face the fact that at some point, I was with him."

She watched his jaw clench. Then he looked at Janet who was checking Sam's blood pressure.

"She okay?"

Janet nodded and stood up. "Come on guys, we better get back to bed and let them sleep."

Sam stopped them. She too, was amazed at how easily they accepted finding Jack in bed with her. They accepted it without comment. She loved these people so. "Please don't go. I need you all with me tonight." She looked at Jack for approval. "The bed is big enough. Please stay. It could…it could be our last chance to all be together." Her throat tightened and her eyes clouded with tears.

Daniel looked at Sam, then back at Jack. "You sure? Uhh…I mean I thought the two of you might want…might want some privacy."

Jack nodded, "Come on, she needs everyone."

Janet slipped into the bed beside her. Jack resettled in his place. Daniel lay across the foot. Teal'c still stood. Sam rose up on her knees and crawled toward the end of the bed, reaching out to take his hand and pull him to the bed. "Please Teal'c."

"Very well, MajorCarter." He lay at the foot of the bed opposite Daniel.

"Teal'c, please…not my title…call me by my name."

"Good night, Samantha." He nodded.

She leaned and kissed him on the cheek. "You've always been my solid rock that I could lean on when things get really rough. Goodnight Teal'c."

Crawling over to Daniel, he sat up and welcomed her into his open arms. "Goodnight Sam. You know we all love you."

"Daniel, I'm closer to you than my own brother. I love you too." She crawled back to her place between Jack and Janet, and was immediately wrapped in a warm embrace from Janet. They stared at each other with tear filled eyes, but neither spoke. Then she turned to Jack. "Jack, let's tell them. I want them to know before tomorrow." He nodded his agreement.

Before she could speak, Daniel chimed in. "Sam, if you're going to tell us that the two of you are in love…we've known that for longer than you have."

Everybody laughed. It was strange to laugh under the circumstances, but it felt so good to be together with them and enjoying the moment.

"Well, that's part of it, but…well…after the whole thing with Selmac and Vosh…"

"We're married!" yelled Jack.

Daniel grabbed Sam and hugged her again. "Hey, Space Monkey, that's my wife you're mauling." Jack joked, just as Daniel punched him in the arm; then gave him a brotherly embrace. Janet was hugging Sam. Teal'c was smiling—a genuine ear-to-ear smile as he congratulated them. "Maj…Samantha, O'Neill…I am most pleased that the two of you have finally gotten your feces together."

Everybody roared. Teal'c raised an eyebrow. Jack coughed and spluttered, "That's `got your shit together' buddy...we've gotten our shit together."

Janet looked at them, "How…the regs?"

It's okay," said Sam. "We had permission…the General knows. He stood up for Jack."

Daniel was like an excited little boy. "Tell us…"

Janet interrupted, "Sorry, but I have to insist that Sam get some sleep." As they all settled down to sleep, Janet leaned to whisper in Sam's ear. "Sam, if you have been with Jack, doesn't this mean there is a chance he's the father of your babies?"

"That's why I asked you how far along I am. If it's only 5-6 month… no, but if it's more than that…"

"I need the General to send me some more diagnostic equipment tomorrow, before the triumvirate begins. We'll see if I can't pinpoint the time of conception a little better. Hang in there."

***

"Sam…Sam…wake up sweetie." Slowly she opened her eyes as she recognized Janet's voice. "Sam, come on. Roll over for me. I contacted the General and he sent through a portable ultrasound machine. I want to see how old the babies are. Roll over."

Sam flopped over in bed, barely awake, and Janet immediately started to uncover her abdomen. She picked up the bottle of gel and started to squirt it onto Sam's belly.

"Geez, Jan…wait a minute will ya. I gotta pee. You squirt that on me now and we'll have to change the friggin bed." She crawled out and headed to the bathroom.

Janet yelled after her, "God, you can tell you've been spending time around Jack O'Neill."

Sam climbed back onto to bed and pulled her gown tail up to her breasts. With gel applied, Janet began the scan. "Do you want Jack here?"

Sam shook her head, "No, not until we know if it's even possible that he's the father."

Janet slid the device over her abdomen, pausing frequently to press buttons on the console and then moving on. "Janet, I'm feeling really sick. I can't lie flat on my back anymore."

"It's because the babies are putting pressure on your aorta when you lie flat. Slip another pillow under your head and shoulders, and if you need to we can tip you just a little to one side."

"Naw, the pillow is going to do it, I think."

Janet finished and sat back. "Well?" asked Sam. "They're Ba'al's… right?"

"Sam," Janet rubbed her hands over her face. "I still don't know. By measurements and the date of your last period, it looks like you're at about 7 months, but at that—they could belong to either man. It would take an amniocentesis and DNA testing to know for sure. I'm sorry I can't tell you more."

"Janet, you don't understand. I HAVE to know if Ba'al is the father. You must tell me before the decision is made. Janet, can you do the DNA test? Please Janet, I've never begged for anything before, but I need this from you."

"Sam, you're scaring me. I can do it, but I'll have to get the supplies sent here, and then the results will take a day or two. But, Sam…it's dangerous…especially at this stage of your pregnancy. I'll have to send it back to Earth for analysis if you really want to do it. In the mean time, do you want to see your babies on the ultrasound?" "No…I can't. Not with what I may have to do later…"

Janet moved to look her friend square in the eyes. "Sam…I don't like the sound of this."

"Janet, someone has to know what I plan. I'm so sorry to burden you with this." She looked down at her hands dreading what she had to say… fearing it, but knowing the words had to be spoken. "Janet, Jack and I made a pact after Jolinar. We swore that if one of us were ever taken as a host by the goa'uld, the other…the other would kill them rather than let them be put through that for centuries." The pooled tears began rolling down her cheeks. "As much as I'd like to believe he loves me enough to do it…I don't know if he will be able to when the time comes. The fact that I may be carrying his children makes it worse. If he could do it…it would destroy him. I can't ask that of him now. If we can verify that I'm pregnant by Ba'al, it will help him cope with what's to come. Janet, if things go bad and they give me back to Ba'al…tell him that I understand, and that I released him from his promise. I won't let Ba'al have us. I managed to get enough naquada and component parts to build a tiny bomb. I've concealed it in this bracelet I wear…there won't be enough left to put in a sarcophagus and revive."

"Oh, Sam…" She hugged her friend, wishing she could say something more, but understanding her friend all too well.

A soft knock at the door was enough to break the moment. Janet switched off the machine. "Is it time to go?"

"Soon," Daniel answered. Sam freshened up and dressed. No one could eat any breakfast.

The main doors to the suite opened and Sha'la entered. "We are ready for you."

They turned and walked toward the exit. Sam paused, trembling in the doorway. Jack thought she was going to collapse. He stepped up and wrapped her in his arms. "I promise you, this will be okay. Sam, I won't let him take you." Her eyes met Janet's over Jack's shoulder as he embraced her. Janet wondered if there was a double meaning to his words. She knew what Sam had said was true, killing her would destroy him. He had killed her once with the entity and the guilt had overwhelmed him. Would he do it again?

***

When they entered the assembly, the three sages were already seated. Ba'al entered immediately following them. He approached Sam and reached out to caress her cheek, but Jack stepped between them. "Good morning, my dearest. I hope you have been getting adequate rest and nutrition. Nothing is as important to me as your health and that of my child."

Sam averted her eyes, and Jack looked like he was about to rip the goa'uld symbiote out through his throat, when Sha'la stepped in. "If you will all be seated, we shall begin. The Triumvirate has been briefed on the events surrounding Samantha Carter's arrival on this planet and her request for sanctuary. They also know of Lord Ba'al's claim upon her." Turning to face the three judges, she nodded, "We may begin."

The judge seated in the center spoke, "Lord Ba'al, we would ask that you restate your claim upon this woman."

Ba'al stood and paced forward. "This beautiful creature is host to my queen, Anat. She was claimed in battle, as are many hosts for the goa'uld. By sovereignty we claim any chattel taken in battle as our sole possession. I have not abused this woman in any way. She was treated with kindness, prior to implantation, and is greatly revered as my queen. She came to my bed as my queen the first night after her capture, and she conceived at that time. The following morning, when Anat became aware that she had conceived, she chose to sleep so that out child might be carried until its birth. As the time comes for the birth, Anat will awaken and resume her rightful place as my queen, the mother of my child, and the mistress of this host." He walked over to look at Sam again; then turned back to the judges. "I assure you that she and the child will live their life in the utmost luxury that can be provided. And with the respect due them as my wife and heir."

"Yeah...hated and despised as murdering snakeheads," muttered Jack.

Daniel stood as Ba'al returned to his seat. "Excuse me, but is it permitted to pose a question?" Sha'la nodded, "Yes Dr. Jackson, proceed."

"Lord Ba'al. If this child is the product of your…bedding Major Carter while she was host to Anat—would the child not be harsesis? And is it not strictly forbidden for two goa'uld hosts to procreate? My understanding is that any such offspring would be hunted and destroyed by the other system lords."

"Yes, the child will possess great abilities—greater knowledge than any before it, but the days of the old system lords are over. A new order is emerging. Once given a symbiote, this child will be able to accomplish more than other's have ever dreamed."

Daniel turned back to Sam. "Did this woman freely offer herself to be host to your queen and mother of your child?"

"That is of no consequence. That is not the goa'uld way. We take what we want. She was taken in battle and mine to do with as I chose. She is nothing more than a shell for Anat."

"Nothing more than a shell. Yet you laid a trap specifically to attract SG-1, so that you could kidnap Major Carter. And without her— there could be no child; your goa'uld queen is not capable of becoming pregnant with a human child. I think she is a lot more than just a shell. And what of her own will to choose her own destiny—have you not robbed her of that."

"Fate does not always send humans the destiny that they would choose for themselves. I am a god, and as such, may decide the fate of those under my realm of influence," he spoke with all the arrogance and vehemence for the Tauri.

He looked up at the Triumvirate. "I demand that she be released to me now. As her lord and husband, I claim right to this woman and the child she carries."

The three judges conferred amongst themselves. "Thank you, Lord Ba'al." They shifted their gaze to Sam. "You may now speak or choose another to speak for you." Sam looked at Daniel and nodded. It was already decided that he would be able to better keep his emotions in check and speak on her behalf. He rose from his seat and walked before the three men; then turned back to face Sam.

"Sam, tell us how you came to be a prisoner of Ba'al."

"We were gating to P4X-992, investigating reports of a stash of goa'uld weapons and naquada. Now we know it was a trap, and that Ba'al's forces were waiting for us. I also know that the purpose was to capture me. Ba'al wanted me for several reasons: my scientific knowledge, my knowledge of the Tok'ra and the SGC, most of all the fact that I am a member of SG-1. Ba'al hates SG-1 for embarrassing him. The Colonel once escaped from him after months of torture…and he hates him for having been able to do that. Also, he was really pissed at all of us for freeing the Tok'ra, Selmac and Ambassador Vosh when he held them prisoner. He wanted to lash out at us all. Making me host a to his queen was his way of doing that."

Daniel walked to stand before Ba'al. "Major, did he give you any choice as to whether or not you would become host?"

"No, he laughed and taunted me. He said he would have his revenge on SG-1 and all of the SGC by making me what they most despised. He said he hoped to be present to see the expressions on the faces of my friends, as I drained the life from them, and that he would revel in hearing Anat's description of the anguish I would personally suffer by doing so."

He walked back to Sam's seat and took her hands, pulling her to her feet. He reached out, pausing to silently ask permission before laying his hand on her belly. "Sam, we've just learned you're having twins…" Ba'al's head jerked up, his eyes wide and his nostrils flaring. "Can you tell us who fathered them?" Daniel continued. He saw her shudder slightly and his eyes said `I'm sorry'.

"No, I can't tell you. Ba'al says that they are his, but I have no memory of being with him."

He jumped to his feet, "As you would not…Anat was in possession of your mind and body at that time."

Sam continued, "I do know, however, that I had intimate relations with my husband the morning that I was kidnapped by Ba'al. I hope, I pray…that the children I carry belong to my husband." She reached over for Jack's hand and squeezed it tightly as tears filled her eyes. "Dr. Frasier's tests show that I probably conceived around the time I was captured. With further testing, she can determine the father, but that technology is not available to us on Numitor."

A disturbance was heard outside the meeting room. The doors swung open and Jacob Carter strode in carrying a case in his arms, walking beside him was Lya of the Nox.

Daniel turned to face the Triumvirate, "Good Sirs, may we ask for a rest period. Samantha's father, Jacob Carter, and a friend, Lya of the Nox, have just arrived and we need to confer. I am sure that this tension is not beneficial for Samantha or her children, both would benefit from this rest."

"Granted. Welcome Jacob Carter and Lya of the Nox. We will resume when the suns are in mid sky." The three stood and exited. Ba'al whipped out toward his quarters.

Jacob embraced his daughter. She clung to him as she had when she was a small child and a bad dream had frightened her during the night. "Oh, Daddy…I'm so glad to see you."

Jacob smiled; she hadn't called him that since she was twelve. "Is there somewhere we can go to talk and rest?" They all headed back toward their suite.

***

They had put Sam to bed on Janet's order for rest; then they would all talk. But she couldn't rest. Jack sat in the chair beside her, holding her hand and dozing. She lay in the bed spinning the bracelet around and around on her wrist…thinking too much. She heard no one open the door or enter the room, but she sensed a presence behind her and then felt a soft touch on her shoulder. Turning, she found Lya sitting in the middle of the bed beside her. She bore the sweet angelic smile that always lit her face. Sam had always thought she looked like a life-size woodland fairy. Just being in the presence of this gentle creature was soothing. Jack slept on. Sam rolled to her back. Lya raised her hands above Sam's belly, and spoke softly—her voice barely more than a whisper. "May I Samantha?" Sam nodded and Lya laid her hands on Sam's belly. She felt the babies respond to Lya's touch—becoming much more active than usual. Seeing the concern for what was happening evident of Sam's face, Lya spoke, "All is well. They are simply greeting me."

Lya closed her eyes and continued to hold her hands on Sam's abdomen. Sam could feel warmth—more than just the usual, emanating from the touch. Lya smiled and moved her head side to side. Then pulling her hands back to her own lap, she opened her eyes and smiled at Sam.

"Are they okay, Lya?…Are they harsesis?"

"Fear not, Samantha…all is well". She looked toward Jack and nodded, "He grows within you."

"You mean Jack…Jack is the father…not Ba'al…are you sure?"

Lya inclined her head indicating that was indeed what she was saying. "Yes, I am sure." Sam sat up and grasped the hands of the petite woman; then pulled her into a hug. "Thank you…I don't know what else to say…thank you…"

"What…?" Jack woke. "What's goin on?"

"Good news…let's go tell the others."

She practically jumped off the bed, more excited than Jack had seen her since his arrival on the planet. Grabbing Jack with one hand and Lya with the other she dragged them into the next room.

"They are Jack's babies! Lya told me...she senses it somehow."

Jack picked her up and swung her around in his arms. Realizing what he was doing he set her down. "I'm sorry…I…I didn't hurt you, did I?"

"I'm fine, Jack. We're fine." Everyone rushed them. Hands and arms were tangled in a group hug.

Jacob reached out to shake Jack's hand, but instead pulled him into a fatherly hug. Daniel leaned over to Jack. "I guess this means he knows you're married."

Jack nodded, "He gave Sam away at the wedding."

"Golly, Jack…I'm feeling really left out." "Me too," chimed in Janet. "As am I," Teal'c added.

Janet pulled Sam aside, "Would you like to see them on the ultra sound now?"

Sam readily agreed. She grabbed Jack by the arm. "Do you want to see them on the ultrasound?"

He remembered what a thrill that it had been when he had first seen Charlie. "Do I!" They started toward the bedroom, when he abruptly stopped. "Sam, can we ask them to share this with us?"

She smiled. He really was a sweet and considerate man underneath all those layers of sarcasm and bullshit bravado. "Of course."

"Hey everyone, Janet is going to use the ultrasound to show us the babies. We'd like for all of you to join us. You're all our family too."

Lya stepped up to them. "May I offer an alternative to your machine? Allow me to show you these two beautiful little gifts. If you will join hands in a circle." She stood in the center of the circle, facing Sam. "Samantha, close your eyes. Everyone, close your eyes." She laid her hands on Sam's belly; again she felt the warmth spread. It grew into a warm glow that was visible in her minds eye. Suddenly, two little faces appeared-- delicate features, tiny button noses, and faint blond hair visible through the fluid that covered them. One sucked its thumb. The other lifted its eyebrows in a typical Jack O'Neill waggle. Sam giggled.

"Samantha…Jack…do you wish to know their gender?" Jack immediately responded, "Oh yeah…you betcha," he stopped, considering Sam's wishes. "If that's what Sam wants too." She smiled without opening her eyes. "How could I disappoint you now? Please, Lya, show us."

The image backed away from their faces to reveal a tiny girl sucking on her thumb and a boy reaching out as if to touch his sister. The tiny girl's eyes opened to reveal the deepest azure blue that Jack had ever seen. She was a miniature of her beautiful mother. The boy slowly opened his mahogany eyes. Together they stared out as if seeing their audience. Lya spoke as the image dimmed and faded. "They sense the love within this room." With that she broke her contact. The crowd opened their eyes, feeling calm and peaceful in the afterglow of the experience.

"Janet," Sam asked, "I thought all babies eyes were kind of the same color until they got a little older?" Before Janet could answer, Lya spoke, "Samantha, I showed you as their true eye color will be. I sensed Jack would like to know." Sam nodded, "Thank you."

Jacob spoke first. "I hate to be the one to rain on this parade, but we need to get back to the task at hand. I'd like to talk to Sam for a moment." Everyone, including Jack, scattered to give them some privacy. "Sam, I brought a memory recall device. With Lya's help, I think we can use it to access Anat's memories of what happened, without awakening her."

"Dad, can we trust that? I have no idea what to expect."

"Well, this one will be a little different than the one we used in the past. With Lya's help, you will actually see Anat's memories on screen." He put his hand on her arm. "You need to be prepared…to see whatever really did happen between the two of you. You know, even though Jack's the father of my grandchildren, it doesn't mean that Ba'al and Anat didn't have sex." He felt a shiver run through her. "I know, Dad…I just can't bear the thought that I let him touch me. Jack's been so good, but I know this has all affected him too. I don't know how he'd deal with it…"

"Sam, what do you mean? Jack loves you…nothing's going to change that. If it happened—he'll understand."

"But…this is Ba'al. Anyone else, maybe, but I don't know…there are so many bad memories…" She trailed off when Jack stepped up beside her. Taking her arms from Jacob's waist, she wrapped both around Jack's neck leaning heavily into him. Her face, which had just glowed with elation at seeing the infants she carried, was now dark and sullen.

Part 4: Triumvirate

They had all taken their seats in the Great Hall waiting for things to proceed. Jacob had explained the operation of the modified recall device to the assembly. Sam felt a slight discomfort and heard the all too familiar `ping' as the recall device was attached to her temple. Jacob dropped his hand to hers and squeezed it. "Are you ready, kiddo?" She swallowed hard and nodded.

Lya stepped up to her side. "Samantha, I will remain at your side. I must maintain physical contact with you in order to free Anat's memories so that the device will work. If at any point, you wish to terminate the connection, simply squeeze my hand." Sam looked over at the small woman. Her mere presence brought a peace and serenity. "Samantha, do not be concerned for your children. They are safe during this procedure, and I will continue to watch over them." She smiled and looked at Jacob. "We are ready."

Jacob inserted a crystal into the machine and a holographic screen sprang to life. "Sam, just relax. I want you to try accessing the first memories shared by you and Anat."

Images started to swirl on the screen as an image cleared. A goa'uld symbiote extended from the pouch of a female Jaffa and stared down at the onlooker. Ba'al voice could be heard in the background. " I am happy that she pleases you. I too, shall find her body most enjoyable."

The image shifted to Anat's viewpoint, as she looked down on Sam's naked body before her. (At this point Daniel blushed and averted his eyes from the screen, not wanting to see his friend naked.) Slowly the symbiote slid from the pouch and dropped onto Sam's chest. It raised its head and screeched, flaring the frill around its neck. As it did so, four Jaffa restrained Sam. One turned her head to the side and Anat lunged forward, using her fangs to tear her way through Sam's soft flesh and tunnel to base of her skull. Sam's screams, heard through the device, echoed off the wall of the Great Hall.

Jack's eyes were on Sam as she grimaced and squirmed with the memories. Her eyes jumped from the screen to meet with his. He tried to smile for her, but wasn't very successful. Suddenly the image changed. The screen was filled with an image of Sam lying naked across Jack's body. The window of the room was open and birds could be heard outside. A lake was shimmering in the distance as the haunting call of a loon echoed through the room. Their friends realized that this must be Jack's cabin in Minnesota.

Jacob stepped to block the view of the screen, smiling he gave her a moment—this memory was probably very calming for her. "Sam, I want to get back to Anat's memories."

She looked back to her father's face as the screen clouded again; then cleared. The view panned around the interior of a chamber on what looked like a goa'uld ship. Everyone realized that they were now seeing Anat's view through Sam's eyes. She turned to face Ba'al, reaching out a hand to caress his face. "Do you find this body appealing my love?" she asked. Ba'al wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her naked body to him, claiming her lips in a rough kiss as he stroked her back and ass with his free hand. She reached for a blue gown lying across his chair; dropping it over her head she smoothed her hands over her breasts, flat abdomen and onto her thighs. She would enjoy this body too. Taking Ba'al by the hand she led him through the corridors of the ship, finally stopping at one entryway, she turned to the Jaffa who followed. "We are not to be disturbed."

The door slid open to reveal a lavish bedchamber. Anat dragged him into the room by the hand; then turned and pressed her body to his. She claimed his lips in a fierce kiss, biting until the taste of blood was in her mouth. She slid the straps of the blue gown off her shoulders and let it drop, pooling in the floor around her feet.

Daniel stood up and whispered to his friend, "Teal'c…what do you say you and I step outside and at least give Sam back a little bit of privacy." Teal'c nodded and the two exited the room.

Jack wasn't even aware they had left. He couldn't take his eyes off the screen—both knowing what was coming, and praying he was wrong. He watched as the memories continued to play out; his hands clenched in fists and his nails drew blood where they dug into his palms.

Anat took Ba'al's mouth in another kiss; she slid her hands under his tunic and raked her nails hard down his back. Ba'al reacted with a groan; grabbing her hair and yanking her head back to expose her neck. He bit and sucked a path down her neck, leaving teeth marks in his wake. She slid her hand down his back and around to the front to cup him through the fabric of his pants. He swung her up into his arms and carried her to the bed, throwing her into the center before removing his pants and jumping up to stand on the mattress over her— his boots still on. A tremble of anticipation ran through her as she looked up at the erection peaking out from beneath the tail of his shirt.

Ba'al removed his shirt and threw it behind him, using his feet he kicked her legs apart and dropped to his knees between her thighs. Lowering himself to cover her, he kissed her and sucked her tongue into his mouth. His hands trailed to her breasts, pinching and twisting her nipples. Anat moaned and arched against him. Sitting back on his knees, Ba'al reached under her knees with both hands, sliding them up the underside of her thighs until they rested beneath her buttocks, and she was spread wide open to him. He pulled her close and lifted her pelvis until the broad tip of his hard penis was touching her tender opening…"

Sam squeezed Lya's hand, "Oh god! Stop…please stop…I can't…" She jumped from the chair, her eyes wild and her skin pale. She turned to look at Jack. She needed him, but he looked like his life's blood had been drained from him. He sat staring speechless at Ba'al, who glared back at him with a complacent grin. Sam looked back to her father who was saying something to her; she could see his lips moving but couldn't hear his words. Tears were blurring her vision. Slowly the lights in the room were dimming. It was as if she was sinking into the floor. Suddenly, Jack's arms were around her as he pulled her into a tight embrace. His words were soft and low in her ear. "I've got you babe. It's okay. Everything will be okay. I love you Sam and I'm here. That wasn't you." He pulled back and put his hand under her chin to lift her face. "Come on, look at me."

"Jack…I'm gonna be sick. I need a bathroom." Jack and Janet left the room with her. Sha'la spoke with Jacob. "We will allow her to rest for now. I will send refreshments. Someone will come for you when it is time to resume."

"Thank you for your thoughtfulness." It was Selmac who spoke.

Sha'la jerked her head up in surprise. "Your voice…you sound goa'uld."

"Forgive me, I am Selmac of the Tok'ra. Jacob Carter is too distressed about his daughter to speak at the moment. I am a member of a symbiotic race who opposes the system lords. We take only hosts who are willing and desire to share with us. Ours is a truly symbiotic relationship." He spent the next few minutes giving Sha'la greater details of the differences in Tok'ra and goa'uld symbiotes.

Janet sat in the floor of the bathroom patting Sam's face with a cool cloth. "Sam I'm concerned about you physically. This isn't good for your babies or you. You've hardly eaten in two days, you ate nothing at all this morning, you've just up-chucked what little fluid and bile was in your stomach, and now you're dry heaving. You need to calm down."

Sam lay back onto the cool stone floor. "Janet, I always knew there was I very good chance that I had sex with him, but I just wouldn't allow myself to believe it. Seeing it…well. I can't deny it any longer. Besides being sickened by the thought of having him inside me… I feel like betrayed Jack."

"You didn't betray anyone." Jack's strong voice came from behind her. He had been standing in the doorway and now came to sit in the floor beside his wife and friend. "Honey, you were a victim. Don't ever feel like any of this was your fault or like you disappointed me. You would have disappointed me if you had fought him, and he'd hurt or killed you. Together Sam, together we can get through this. I know it won't be easy…I'm not trying to make it sound simple. I love you…and I'm sticking right here by your side."

Sam leaned into his shoulder and he hugged her closer to him. Lifting her chin he kissed her. "Nothing will ever change my love for you." It felt so warm and safe in his arms. Sam just wanted to go home. "They've given us a break to allow you to rest. Sha'la will come and get us later."

"No," said Sam. "I want to go back now and finish this. Help your pregnant wife up out of this floor," she said reaching for his hand.

Jack looked to Janet, "Is she okay to do this."

"Probably not, but better to get it over and done with instead of fretting about it. She'll be fine Colonel. You have a very resilient wife." Janet hugged them both.

Jacob was just getting ready to leave when Daniel had returned to tell them that Sam wished to continue without a break.

"You all right kiddo?" he asked as she walked back into the hall, clearly not convinced by his daughter's appearance.

"Yeah, Dad. Let's do this. Turn it on. Daniel, Teal'c please stay, if it doesn't make you too uncomfortable."

Daniel hugged her. "It just feels kinda creepy. Like watching a porno flick and discovering your sister is the star." Sam slapped him gently on the arm and smiled.

"I will be right here to assist you should you have a need Maj… Samantha," said Teal'c.

Everyone took their seats. As Ba'al passed Jack he paused and sneered down at him. "I see why you chose this one as your mate. She is quite good…more talented than any of my concubines. A pity you will never benefit from the new techniques she has learned at my hands." Jack clenched his fists and started to rise, but Teal'c placed a strong hand on his shoulder to restrain him. Ba'al took his seat.

The screen clicked on again as Jacob spoke. "Sam, think about when Anat first discovered the pregnancy." Lya touched her arm and the image began to form.

Sam/Anat lay spread-eagle on the bed as Ba'al stood dressing at the foot. It was obvious that this was a continuation of the scene they had been witnessing earlier. Ba'al approached the bed and leaned to kiss his queen. Suddenly she grabbed her abdomen and rolled to her side crying out as if in pain.

"My queen…what troubles you? Is this Tauri witch still strong enough to cause you pain?"

Anat did not answer, but lay still and trembling in a fetal position, holding her lower abdomen. Finally, she relaxed. "My Lord. This host is with child. By the morning her body will reject it, and it will trouble us no more."

A sinister grin spread across his face. "My love, can you tell me who has fathered her child?"

"It is another Tauri…his name is Jack. She was calling out for him with her mind while we made love. She is strong and I have not yet had time to fully subdue her." Anat confessed. "Ba'al, she does not know she carries his child."

"Anat, I must ask a favor of you. You must sleep, that this Tauri woman may carry this child until its birth. She is a member of the Tauri's foremost team, SG-1. I know this Jack O'Neill well; he and his team have embarrassed me on more than one occasion. Now I may have my revenge."

"What is your wish?"

"You will sleep while this child grows in the womb of your host. Upon its birth, you will awaken and reclaim your rightful place as my queen. The child and your host will be very useful against the Tauri. I can use them to inflict great pain on O'Neill. Perhaps I will allow you to sacrifice this child. How do you think O'Neill would react to the sight of his beloved murdering his child as offering to me? Or perhaps it could in time become my new host, or host to one of our own offspring." He laughed demonically, "I will have my revenge on them all, but especially on O'Neill."

Lya broke the contact and Jacob switched off the machine as he turned to face the Triumvirate. "As you can see, honored Sirs, Ba'al has made false claims. The child is not his. Rather, he intended to use the host and her child in the foulest method to make the Tauri suffer. I ask you to deny his claim to this woman…to my daughter and return her to us."

Part 5: Home

Sha'la walked to the table where the Triumvirate sat. Jack's pupils were pinpoints as he watched and concentrated, trying to listen to the whispered conversation, but unable to make out the words or read their lips. Finally, Sha'la nodded and stepped away from the table. The sage, seated in the middle rose to address the groups.

"Facts presented before us here today bear witness that Lord Ba'al has not acted in good faith. He has purposely lied in regards to the parentage of this woman's unborn child in order to conceal his malicious plan to use these innocent lives to further his personal vendetta. It is therefore the conclusion of this Triumvirate, that Lord Ba'al has no valid claim to this woman, and that his queen, Anat, must be withdrawn from the host. Samantha Carter will be freed from his control and may resume her life with friends and family."

The goa'uld pushed back from the table and jumped to his feet, knocking over the chair as he did so. With eyes dark with rage, he screamed at them, "You have no right. I am a god. I do not accept your judgment! The woman is mine!"

Calmly the man looked back into the face of Ba'al. "Lord Ba'al, your queen will be returned to you by the end of the day. We shall place her in a stasis chamber to maintain her until you can find other arrangements. We declare this Triumvirate decided." The three men stood and exited the room.

Sha'la approached Sam. "Do you wish to rest before the extraction."

"No, get this damned thing out of me, now." Sha'la motioned toward a doorway. Grabbing Jack and Janet by the hand Sam pulled them along with her. Janet reached for Lya, "Please…she may need you too."

***

Sam opened her eyes. Her mind was fuzzy and foggy. Where was she…she felt someone touch her neck, and her eyes came into focus as her memory cleared. Sha'la was removing the Stone of Vesta. "Samantha, the procedure is complete. The goa'uld has been removed. I would like to observe you for a short time; then, you are free to go."

Janet reached for Sam's hand. "It's over. You're fine…your babies are fine." Janet's eyes were brimming with tears. Moving as quietly as fog, Lya slipped to the side of the seat where Sam reclined and placed her hands on Sam's pregnant belly. As she closed her eyes, Sam felt the gentle warmth of Lya's touch and her babies' response to her presence. Lya stepped back, displaying the enigmatic smile, which most usually graced her face. "They are well Major Carter…they are very happy."

Jack brushed a stray piece of hair back from her face and tucked it behind her ear. He leaned over her, placing a hand on each side of her and lowering his face to hers for a slow sweet kiss. His lips were light and soft. The kiss betrayed a gentler side of himself that he rarely revealed—except to her. Pulling back he smiled at her, "Let's go home Mrs. O'Neill."

She tilted her head to the side and flashed him a new and improved version of that million-watt smile, making him realize just how much he needed her with him to keep him grounded. Her blue topaz eyes sparkled, lit by a glow from within her, now burning brightly after being shadowed for these 7 months. "Take me home, Jack."

They walked out the doorway and into the Great Hall. Ba'al stood, hands locked in front of him and eyes on the floor waiting for Anat to be delivered to him. He lifted his eyes as they approached and stepped in front of them. "I shall miss you, my love. I have grown quite accustomed to your presence." Reaching into his pocket he pulled something out and stretched his hand toward Sam. "I believe these are yours." He held her dog tags in his hand. As she reached for them he slid his other hand beneath hers, grasping her wrist for a moment; then, dropping the tags into her hand and folding her fingers over them. As he slid his hands from hers, Sam felt a scrape of sharp metal from the ribbon device he wore on his left hand. He stood straight and tall, staring into Jack O'Neill's eyes, an evil sneer curling his lips. "When you touch, her think of me. For remember, I have touched her too. In all those private, intimate places that you thought were yours and yours alone—I have touched and tasted. She has screamed my name as she shivered in ecstasy while my seed ran deep and hot inside her. " He turned his gaze to Sam. "When you sleep, dream of me. Touching you, possessing you..." He stretched out his index finger and touched her temple. "I will always be right here…and right here," he added as he dropped his hand between her legs. Sam was revolted by his touch and jerked back behind Jack. Ba'al threw his head back and laughed just as Jack threw a solid upper cut to his jaw, landing the goa'uld on his ass. Indignantly, he climbed quickly to his feet. "I will have my revenge on all of you." Then he turned an exited the room, with his bearers bringing Anat behind him.

***

Jacob was waiting for them when they returned to their rooms. "Honey, I'm sorry…I've got to go…Tok'ra business. I promise to try to be there when my grandchildren are born." He took her in his arms and rocked her. "I love you, Sam." Turning to Jack, "Take care of my daughter and grandchildren."

Jack threw him a mock salute, "Yes, Sir!" Jacob embraced him; then picked up his equipment and headed for the Stargate.

Daniel and Sha'la were in deep discussion in the living area. He had asked General Hammond to send through several of mythology books from his lab that had references to the legend of Rhea Silvia, and to send photos and maps of the area that would probably be the present day Alba of which the Numitorians spoke. After examining all of the materials, Sha'la looked across the room where Sam was sitting curled up on Jack's lap with her head on his shoulder. Her eyes tracked each small movement they made and a smile spread across her face. Suddenly, realizing she was staring, she blinked and glanced over at Daniel before turning back to continue watching them. "They are the couple that the legends foretold…of that I am convinced. It seems surreal to watch those who are part of the religious beliefs of your people as flesh and blood living beings." She stood and walked to the balcony with Daniel following her. "I have spoken with the Council of Sages. As Oracle of Numitor, they have left the decision in my hands" She paused surveying the countryside before her, its columns and pavilions bathed in the orange glow of the two setting suns. "As I have said, I believe that they are the Rhea and the Astronaut, but their purpose here is not to lead an exodus of my people back to Alba, rather it is to help us discover our origins—our roots if you will. Look at my race. We have much advancement beyond those of your world. Regrettably we cannot share them, because none here know the means of there function. The gods who left them here to protect us, did not educate us in maintaining them, although they have not required any maintenance since the beginning of our time." She turned and leaned back onto the rail looking directly into Daniel's eyes. "We would like to know more of our mother planet and the origins of our race. Perhaps we could open up diplomatic relations and begin use of the Astronaut's Portal again. We would like to visit your Earth and our ancient homeland. In turn, we would welcome those from your planet and exchange any information or technology known to us."

Daniel was excited at the opportunity. "I'm sure something can be arranged. I know my government would be very interested in developing a friendship with yours. Perhaps you would like to return home with us to meet with the commander of the SGC, General Hammond?" There conversation continued, Daniel rattling on like an excited child with a new toy, as plans were made to begin the next chapter in the life of the people of Numitor.

Sam stood up from Jack's lap and tugged on his hand for him to follow her. "I bet your tired aren't you?" he asked as she walked toward the bedroom.

"Something like that." came her whispered response. As Jack shut the door to the bedroom she wrapped both arms around his neck. His arms encircled her waist and pulled her close to him, leaning his head to take her lips. It was soft and gentle—almost tentative at first, until she swept her tongue over his lips, parting them and pushing her tongue into his mouth deepening the kiss. He responded, tangling his tongue with hers as they each caressed and explored every inch of the other's mouth. Breathing was becoming ragged as she eased her grip on the back of his head and slid her hands down his back to his ass pulling him closer to her. "I want you." She whispered in a raspy voice that set every nerve end in his body screaming for more. She grabbed the back of his head again and pulled his face to hers so her hot mouth could devour him. Trailing kisses down the side of his neck and nipping with teeth as she went, she began to pull his shirt from his pants.

He slid her silken gown off her shoulder and trailed kisses down her shoulder and back up her neck to her most sensitive spot, the pulse point just below her ear. He heard her suck in her breath as he circled his tongue over the skin of the area. She moaned with the loss when he pulled back from her and took her chin in his hand. "Sam… I want you too, but are you sure this is a good idea? I mean with your pregnancy being pretty far along…" He saw her expression change and suddenly wanted to kick his own ass for what he had just done. "Oh honey, don't think I don't want you. God, you're even sexier now. All you have to do is look at my pants to know I want you, but what I mean is…is it safe for you and the babies?" He hesitated and thought about it for a moment before continuing. "Sarah wouldn't have sex with me in the last trimester of her pregnancy. She said it probably wasn't safe…and it didn't feel very good anyway."

She reached between them and ran the tips of her fingers over the fly of his pants, tracing the outline of his erection through the fabric. "I'll tell you how it feels in just a minute if you'll quit talking and cooperate with me." She began unbuckling his belt, and that done, moved right on to the zip on his fly.

"Sam…maybe (Oh god it was hard to think with her fingers touching him) maybe you should ask Janet."

She circled her fingers around his growing erection and slid her hand slowly toward the head, increasing the strength of her grip as she did so. She grinned when his knees jerked in response. "I am not asking my best friend if I can have her permission to fuck my husband." She squeezed a little tighter and started backing toward the bed, dragging him by his penis.

"Okay, okay…we'll just be careful…but please don't damage the merchandise." She released him to unhook the clasp of the gown she wore. It slid off her shoulders and caught, hanging on her elbows and buttocks. She stretched her arms behind her and let it drop to the floor. Jack stepped back and examined her body. Her golden hair was now shoulder length and sparkled like sunshine on honey, her face was a little fuller, but soft and gorgeous, her breasts were definitely fuller and rounder, the added size creating the slightest crease beneath each breast as the fullness weighted them, and her round belly…it made him swell with pride. This was his; his seed grew there… not that sorry-assed, mother-fuckin snake-head's child, but his son and daughter. He stepped closer and reached out to lightly brush her hair back from her face, his fingers trailed down the side of her neck and on to her breasts, cupping them in his hands and feeling their weight and fullness; then, he moved on to her belly. He flattened his palms and smoothed over her belly, letting his hands come to rest on either side. His eyes lit up when he felt movement under his hands, and Sam, having felt it too, reached out to caress his face.

He backed her to the bed and sat her on the side. Kneeling beside her he leaned forward and laid his face against her belly, then planted two kisses—one on either side of her inverted belly button. He smiled with the thought that Sam's `innie' had become and `outtie'. He glanced up at Sam's face with mischief in his eyes before returning his gaze to Sam's belly and beginning to speak in a whispered voice, "Now, I want you two to be quiet and be very good. Just go to sleep for now, cause you're too young to see the things that your Daddy plans to do to your Mommy, so just sleep and ignore the sounds you hear—even the loud ones, cause I'm gonna try to make your Mommy scream and embarrass her with her friends in the next room." About that time Sam slapped him on the top of the head. He looked up at her with a sheepish grin that quickly changed to a look of complete innocence. "What…?" She gave his ears a gently tug, "Put up or shut- up buster."

"Scoot back just a little and lie down," he instructed her. As she did so he lifted her feet to rest her heels on the side of the bed. Still kneeling he crawled on up to the side of the bed and placed a hand on each of her knees, as he gently caressed circular patterns on the skin down the fronts of her thighs, he leaned to kiss a path from her inner knee to the apex of her thighs. He felt her thigh muscles tense under his hands as his breath filtered through her curls. "Oh, it's nice to know I've been missed."

She growled at him, "Just shut up…and do something with that tongue other than talk, flyboy."

Grinning he lowered his face to kiss her mound, her thighs immediately falling open to give him full access to her. He flicked out just the tip of his tongue and traced it down her crease, before burying his face into her sex a greedily devouring the juices he found already waiting there. His lips soon found her swollen bud and he began his assault, sucking it into his mouth where his waiting tongue massaged its tip. He could feel her muscles beginning to contract, the whimpered moans becoming louder and louder. She had been determined not to make any noise after the comment he had made earlier, but at this point, she didn't give a shit—all she was aware of was the delicious feeling that spun out from where he sucked to encompass her entire body and soul. Finally her body arched of the bed and she threw her head back. "J…oh…J…uh…J…oh my…Jesus, Jaaaack!" she screamed as wave after wave of warm tingling pleasure tore through her.

He crawled up on the bed and wrapped her in his arms. "I'm here. God… I love you, Sam." He kissed her and she tasted the tang of herself on his lips. It had been so long. They lay facing each other, lightly caressing. Sam trailed her hands back to Jack's now flaccid penis and began to gently stroke. "Sam, leave it alone honey. I'm okay. It's probably best we don't do any more."

"Jack, I want to do more. I want you, Jack…I need to feel you inside me, moving and filling me. I need you…please." His answer came with a jump into her hand as he began to grow at her words and touch. Soon he was ready.

"Roll over with your back to me." He instructed. When she did, he spooned against her, using his upper leg to lift hers, he opened her legs and slid into her from behind, pushing in gently and slowly. She moaned as she reveled in the feeling of having him inside her. After a moment, he began to ever so gently rock his pelvis against hers, but his penetration was very shallow and he kept slipping out. She curled forward and thrust her hips out behind her more giving him better access. "Jack, you're not hurting me." She tried to more forcefully meet his thrusts; but found that he simply defeated her attempts by decreasing the depth of his thrusts. "Just a minute," she said, pulling away from him and rising up on her knees. She turned to face him. "Roll back on your back." She braced her hand on his chest and threw her leg across his hips to straddle him. "Now, I can control the depth and you don't have to question whether or not you're too deep and hurting me." She raised up to lower herself onto his erection. Jack wrapped his fingers around the base of his penis, limiting how far she could settle onto it. Her hot core pressed wetly into his hand and she reached down to brush his hand away, settling fully onto him. Both threw their heads back, engulfed in the sensation. He arched and thrust up uncontrollably, she leaned back resting her hands on his thighs and circling her hips. Had it ever felt this good to hold him inside her?

Jack looked up at her and placed his hands on her belly, smoothing rough palms over the taut skin; then he slid his hands to her nipples and began tracing patterns over and around them, watching in amazement as the enlarged areola contracted and hardened. Sam began to move, rocking, circling…lifting herself up and down as her juices coated his shaft and helped him slide in and out like a well- lubricated piston into her hot wanton center. He watched her face— flushed and wet with perspiration; watched as her eyes rolled back in her head with each upward thrust he made. He was feeling the pull to completion and from her short gasped little breaths; he knew she was close too. Tears were streaming down her face and falling on her breasts and belly, but he couldn't speak to ask. She opened her eyes, looking deep into his and he knew the answer without asking the question—these were not tears of pain, they were tears of joy. He reached between them finding her sensitive bud and rubbing it between his finger and her body; suddenly, she tensed and jerked up straight and unmoving as her legs and entire body finally gave in to the tremors of her orgasm. The sucking, pulling contractions of her vaginal muscles pulled him over the edge to join her as he filled her with his hot seed. She fell toward his chest and she rolled onto her side in the bed. They lay, wrapped in each other's arms.

After a few moments he realized how quiet she was, not returning any of his caresses or cuddling as she usually did. He couldn't see her face. "Sam?" Silence was his reply. "Sam…you asleep already? Come on," …still no response. He slid her head off his shoulder and rose to look at her. He was confronted with a ghostly pale face and waxen lips. Her respirations were so shallow; they were almost undetectable. Moving to his knees, he shook her gently. Getting no response, he jumped from the bed, grabbing the top sheet to wrap around himself as he began yelling for Janet. He ran to door and slung it open. Janet looked up from her seat on the balcony with Daniel. "Janet…" he screamed. "It's Sam…something's wrong."

She sprang to her feet and headed toward the room. "Do you mean the babies?"

"I dunno…she passed out. One minute…we were…and she was…uh, you know… and the next minute this. Janet, what's wrong with her? Do something for cryin out loud. Shit! This is my fault I should have told her `no'. Shit…shit…shit! Janet, please. I can't lose them."

Daniel, who had run to get Janet's medical bag, ran into the room. Handing the bag to Janet, he reached down to pull the sheet up over the lower half of Sam's nude body. Janet checked her pupils; then grabbing her stethoscope, listened to her heart and lungs. She flipped the sheet off Sam's lower body and looked at Daniel. "Pick up her other leg for me, I need to see if she's bleeding." Daniel complied, but averted his eyes as Sam's most private parts were exposed to him, wincing at the glance he had already gotten. Janet pulled the Doppler from her bag and listened for the babies' heart beats—both were faint. "Christ, I wish I had oxygen here," she swore. "Daniel, get Lya for me. Maybe she can help. It looks like some sort of allergic reaction. Colonel...tell me what happened."

"We were making love. Sam came and then I did. She was fine…she seemed fine. She rolled over on me afterwards; then this."

Lya entered the room with her hurried small steps and walked to the bedside. "Lya… you've gotta help her, please. I can't lose her after all this." Lya placed a hand on Sam's head and one over hear heart; then she stood and clasped her hands in front of her, closing her eyes. In a moment she spread her arms out over Sam's body. After several minutes, Sam moaned and began to stir. She blinked and opened her eyes. "Wha…why's everyone…?"

Janet spoke first, "You passed out, Sam. It looks like some sort of allergic reaction. You really had us worried."

Sam grabbed her abdomen and spoke with a trembling voice that betrayed her weakness and fear, "My babies."

Lya touched her arm, "Fear not. They are well, Samantha. I have detected an unnatural chemical in your body. It caused a reaction with the substances Colonel O'Neill deposited in your body during your mating. I have counteracted its effects. You will be weak for a few hours. I cannot rid you of the full effects. Be warned--that this chemical still remains within your body."

Sam was feeling stronger as she took Lya's hand in hers, "Again, I owe you my life. Thank you, Lya. When Ba'al touched my hand after the Triumvirate, something sharp stuck my hand. Could he have put done this then?"

Daniel looked from Janet to Sam. "Remember when I posed as Lord Yu's servant and used the ring with the drug tipped needle? I bet he did the same to you."

"I must return to my home soon." Said Lya. "But, I will wait and travel with you to your world. I must be sure you are unharmed by the journey. I must return to the Nox by morning."

Jack picked up his clothes. "Any reason we can't go tonight?"

Sam smiled at him, "Please…yes. Take me home, Jack."

Daniel, Janet and Lya left the room so they could dress. Teal'c gathered their supplies and packed everything for departure. Sha'la was summoned and informed of their decision. Daniel would contact her again within two days with plans for a diplomatic visit to Earth.

As they approached the Gate, Sam turned to Sha'la. "Words cannot express my gratitude for what you have done for me...for us. Thank you, for giving me back my life."

Sha'la simply nodded; then took Jack and Sam by the hand. A statue will soon be erected here near the gate. It will represent the two of you and your twins. You have restored our past to us. We are a people with a history now, and a real home beyond the stars. I thank you for what you have given my people. I hope that someday, you and your children will return to visit us."

Daniel dialed out; then the four members of SG-1, Janet, and Lya walked through the shimmering event horizon. Moments later, they were greeted by a crowd as they stepped on the ramp of the SGC. Cheers rang through the room. Sam looked at all the smiling faces; they were her friends—her family. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she released Jack's hand and walked alone to the end of the ramp. Stifling the tears, she came to attention before General Hammond and saluted. "Major Samantha Carter reporting for duty, Sir!" The General, tears in his own eyes at the return of this woman who was like a daughter to him, returned her salute. "Welcome home Major…but I'm afraid a salute isn't enough," he said as he pulled her into his arms and a warm embrace. "We've missed you…I've missed you, Sam." He looked down at her swollen belly and back up at her with a question in his eye.

"They're Jack's, Sir. Twins…a boy and a girl." Jack stepped up beside him and the General shook his hand. "Congratulations, son."

Janet stepped up beside the group, "Sir, with your permission, I'd like to get the Major to the infirmary. She the first pregnant earth woman we've had through the gate. I'd like to be sure everything's okay."

"Of course, Doctor." Looking up his eyes met Lya's. "Welcome back to Earth." She tipped her head in greeting displaying her always-demure little smile and followed the Doctor out of the gateroom.

One hour later, SG-1, Lya and the General stood at the base of the ramp. Lya took Jack and Sam's hands and placed them together with hers around them. Her hands were so tiny they could barely cover half of the other two. "You must remember, we have not treated the toxin." She looked directly at Jack, "You must be very careful." She reached behind her neck and removed a necklace she wore. It looked much like a vine with a blue stone in the middle. She placed it around Sam's neck; Jack watching in amazement as the two ends seemed to grow together fastening it securely. "If you have need of me, grasp this stone and call out to me with you mind. I will hear and come."

Antaeus once told you that your race was very young. You still are; however, you have learned much." She placed her hands on Sam's belly. "These children hold the key to the next stage in the evolution of your race. Guard them well, the fate of your planet and of many planets may someday rest in their hands."

She smiled again and turned to walk up the ramp. Her comments stirred a thousand questions in Sam's mind, but she kept silent, somehow knowing, that no answers would be given at this time.

Lya reached the top of the ramp and lifted her arms, the wormhole forming before her as she did. She turned slightly to glance at Sam. "I will be watching." Then she vanished through the ring.

Jack rocked up on his toes, hands in his pockets and whispered in his wife's ear. "Cool, our kids will be the only ones in preschool who have a real fairy god-mother."

"What Dreams May Come", sixth and final in the Movie Series will probably be completed within the next month.
